You don’t have to read between the lines to see that my readers love stripes. They’re classic, sporty and youthful.
Sabina, from Ocean Blue Style, has given her stripes a nautical look by pairing a red and white striped boatneck shirt with crisp navy pants and a fitted jacket. To make it modern, she has added a turquoise satchel and fun yellow loafers.
Stripes can be worn so many ways, and they look great on everyone. It’s all in the way you wear them. Here are 5 ways any woman can look Age-Amazing™ in stripes:
1. Wear Stripes on the Right part of Your Body.
We all have parts of our body that are thinner or heavier. Be sure to wear horizontal stripes only on your thin parts. For example, big busted- don’t wear stripes across your bust. Wide hips? Why widen them by wearing a striped skirt? Boyish figure?- wear stripes all over to create curves. Stripes can also be a wonderful way to widen your shoulders or make your bust appear larger if you are very small up top.
2. Match the size of the stripes to your body size
It makes sense that if you are tall or big-boned you can wear bigger bolder stripes. Petite gals need to wear thinner stripes, that are closer together to look balanced.
3. Wear stripes as part of an Outfit
If you are worried about looking heavy then you can layer an outfit and have a hint of stripe showing through. For example, you will look updated but still slim if you wear a striped top underneath a cute fitted jacket, and not on its own.
4. Accessorize with Stripes
Another great way to look “trend on” without going overboard is to wear solid colored clothing, but add a striped accessory like a purse, belt or sandal.
5. Choose the color of stripes that work for you
The bold candy stripes we are seeing are so much fun but will draw more attention to you than traditional colored stripes, so just keep that in mind. If you are wearing bright stripes in one place it’s best to go neutral elsewhere. IE; wear a candy colored striped top with white pants. Also, contrasting stripes like black and white make a bolder statement than a striped top in alternating black and gray.

From left to right……
Christine -Red + Stripes: Christine’s daughter Courtney had fun helping mom put together this sporty outfit. She paired a striped tee with slim black pants, and a red fitted jacket for a look that is classic and polished. This is the kind of go anywhere no-fail casual outfit that would be a great addition to anyone’s wardrobe.
Dinah -Gold + Stripes: Dinah, a college professor from Columbus, Ohio, made it her mission to debunk the stereotypical image of the frumpy college professor. She combined a sporty striped long sleeve t-shirt with a bright mustard pencil skirt and hip boots for a look that is casual but professional. No old school teacher dressing here! Top Marks, Dinah!
Michelle – The Striped Maxi: I’ve been noticing a lot of bold stripe maxi dresses around and sure enough if Michelle, 47 didn’t send in this photo. She says maxis are a quick and easy way to create a fashionable look. When it’s cool (morning and evening) just throw on the jean jacket and scarf, and you’re ready to go.
Linda – Checkerboard and Stripes: It looks like Linda from A Labour of Life is off to the races in an eye-catching outfit that combines a silky checkerboard top with a racing stripes maxi skirt. At one time mixing bold patterns was rare, but today anything goes.
