I just stumbled onto this post and enjoyed the link in the comments to the NY Times slide show. While I wouldn’t wear all of those necklaces, I found them inspirational and arty. It’s too bad someone was criticizing the photos so harshly in the comments…I have to wonder why they are so angry. I think the pieces pictured are really fun, and the photographer’s voice conveys that he thought they were exciting and inventive. It’s like stuff I see on a fashion runway report…I’m not going to wear those either but it might spark an idea for something that will fit for me. Vive la difference!

Hi Debra and “the gang”…
Well, if it provided a good laugh for you all, then I think that is great! Personally we don’t dress like this, but these women are having fun and it is like dressing in a costume for them and an outlet for their creativity. This one woman has a very low income, but can feel to herself at least glamorous on a dime. Yes, these photos do bring a smile to my lips, but for them it is a wonderful way of feeling like they can make a statement. Lets not squash that for them.

Come on – I don’t give a rip what money or status these ladies have – some of them absoultely are ridiculous – this isn’t fashionable – it looks like they raided a kids toy chest filled with mommies old 70′s bangles. I watched this slideshow with a group of 15 women ages 28-58 and to tell you the truth, most of them think this is crap. We never laughed so hard. You know, with enough time and money and enough yadda, yaddah you could get one of them to wear a toilet seat around their neck with glued on bling and think it was fashioinable. Really ladies – I really like reading your Fabulous After 40, and I do weekly, however, this slideshow really needs to go!

Glam Gals:

The link below is to a NYT audio slide show “On the Street: Fashion Fireworks” highlighting the big chunky/oversize necklaces (and bracelets) in style right now. To my mind the jewelry looks terrible on almost all of the women in the slide show. On a positive note the third slide in the show (at 2:25-2:26) is of a woman wearing the same Anthropologie necklace the Bergdorf sales associate is wearing above.
