Do you have a fabulous wardrobe?

Check out The Glam Gals, 5 tips to make shopping easier!

If you are like many women after 4o you are thinking that things in life might not have turned out exactly how you planned it.

But no fear, you can still be happy, just read this weeks Blogging Boomers Carnival, our weekly dose of all topics Boomer related written by some of the top Bloggers out there!

So, if your life is not what you wanted you can at least take control how you look! After all, YOU are the one who buys your clothes!!

Here are 5 tips to think about when you go shopping so that you can turn your wardrobe into one that includes stylish clothes you love!

  1. Get your closet cleaned out. If you have old clothes that don’t fit and are out of style, make sure they are not clogging up your closet, you will want to make room for the good stuff!
  2. Make a list of your wish list and of what you need
  3. Wear comfortable shoes and make up (Looking your best when you shop makes it more fun and you will feel better about how you look in the mirror!)
  4. Have on your most updated outfit. Then when you go to buy something new, it needs to be as nice as what you already have or better!  That way you set the bar higher and will not be tempted to buy something just mediocre.
  5. Don’t feel like you have to buy something everytime you go shopping. Feel free to just window shop, try on and then go home and think about it. Too often we get home with “impulse” buys that we don’t really need or an item that doesn’t go with anything in our closet. Be super picky about what you buy!!!

Are you hoarding your clothes?

Does your closet have too many clothes in it?

There is a reality show out these days called Hoarders, that I (JoJami)  was watching the other night. (If you haven’t seen it, the title says it all…) It is a shocking show, and it’s just unbelievable how hard it is for  these people to have to “let go” of what we would consider “junk”.

My husband and I were chatting about it and then he joked, ” You know, you’re doing a little bit of  hoarding upstairs in your closet”!   Well, after being horrified at the thought that it might be true, that statement sure  got me thinking….! That night as I stared at my nice neat closet of clothes I thought, “Oh my goodness, I really do have too many clothes!”

It’s a common fact that most women actually only wear 20% of what is in their closet. Why do we keep all those items that we really don’t wear?

What ends up happening is that we end up wearing the first thing we see when we open the closet- usually something really average. We totally forget about some of the wonderful gems that might be hiding behind those old, boring clothes.

As a matter of fact just this past weekend, I needed to throw on something to garden in. I pulled out an old pair of sweat pants an old tacky t-shirt and went out digging. Wouldn’t you know it, an hour latter, an old friend, just “popped” over for a visit. Boy was I feeling like a frump! The next day, when it was time to dress for more outdoor work, I put on different pair of shorts and a coordinating t-shirt. No reason to dress poorly, when I HAVE the clothes in my closet!  Of course, no one showed up for a surprise visit that day, but if they had, I would have looked a lot better! (Meanwhile, I have tossed the day 1 outfit in the give away bag…no need to keep clothes that make you feel dumpy!)

Moreover, I had a client recently that had a closet full of clothes that she has kept for almost 20 years. She had some wonderful classic items that we kept, however, we must have gotten rid of almost 1/2  the clothes in her closet!

She wrote me recently to say how much easier it was for her to get dressed these days with all those outdated things gone!

This weeks Blogging Boomers #154 has a wonderful article on why it can feel so good to purge our home of the extra items that we don’t need or use! Hosted by The Boomer Chronicles you can read about this and other topics that are Boomer related!

If you need some help getting inspired to get mean and clean, check out our DVD, The Ultimate Cure for the Dysfunctional Closet!

This will put the fun into getting your closet organized.
