My name is Jaki Sinclair and I have lost 120 pounds (and am maintaining the loss) by changing my attitude, moving a little more and eating a little less. No fad/crash diets, pills or surgery.
I’ve been overweight since grade-school and have spent most of my life on a diet or planning out my next diet. I would love to be able to encourage other people that, like me, have struggled their entire lives to lose weight and let them know not to give up.
I’ll be turning 48 next week, have my first bicycle in 30 years and feel like I have my life back and want to share with everyone.
I’d love for you to do a health success story of me to encourage people to make healthy choices and not to give up.
I have attached a before and after photo and also a pic of me and my pup (Sassafras) on a bike ride.
Your story is truly one that we would love to share! You have really transformed yourself and it looks like you’re living life to the fullest with your new healthy lifestyle!
Thanks for sharing your inspirational story…many of our readers are struggling with their weight and it’s easy to think that because we have hit a “certain age” that we can’t change but you have certainly proven that change can happen, even after 40!
Keep it up!! We are so thrilled that you wrote us!

Good for you. It’s not all about vanity. It’s about your health too.
Although I’m not a fashion expert, I have an issue with a few things that women our age are wearing.
When did elastic waist pants come in style? How about ugly, comfortable shoes? Wash and wear hair? Is this you? Have you given up on fashion completely? Is comfort really king?
I’m sad to think that these things are the ‘uniform’of so many women my age; in fact, I’m all for comfort and acting my age (which is considerable actually), but I will never resort to these things. Yes, I want to be comfortable, but comfort in my own skin trumps the clothes I wear. Honestly, I think that if you’re wearing these things, you’ve given up on yourself; you are NOT comfortable with who you are physically and then it’s reflected in the styles you choose.
It’s never too early to start thinking about getting ready for the holidays!
As you all know it takes time to lose weight and so we wanted to share with you all a wonderful program that will get you started to feeling great and looking even better!
You might have read some of fitness expert Shawna’s articles in our Monday Fashion Flash and of all the weight loss programs out there, this one could not be easier or more effective.
This is not a gimmick and there are no magic pills or a guarantee that you will lose 10 pounds in 10 days…
Nope, this program is the real deal…it’s all about eating right and doing a 30-40 minute strenuous workout. This takes a lot less time than having to drive back and forth to a gym and you can do it in the privacy of your own home!
That’s right it’s Monday, so that means another Fashion Flash is ready for your reading pleasure!

Dying to get out there and buy something cute for fall, but find yourself holding back because you want to drop a few pounds first? If you had one too many hamburgers, ice cream cones, or glasses of wine by the pool this summer then here are our favorite weight loss tips to peel off those pounds fast.
These tips come from our own real life experience. Nothing drastic – just good solid ways of eating that have keep us looking slim all these years.
Don’t eat after 6 p.m.
This is a sure-fire winner for us. If you find it hard to do, just go to bed a little earlier until you train yourself to do this. Once this becomes a habit, you are allowed to break it once in a blue moon if you are going out to dinner with friends. But even then, make your dinner reservation for 6:30/7:00 not 8:30/9:00.
Cut down on bread.
Love, Love , Love bread and could eat a whole loaf of hot fresh-baked bread, but if we’ve gained a few pounds, we cut down on it a lot. Try turning away the bread basket at a restaurant – too tempting to have it sit on the table. If you are at home eat your bread in the morning (a slice of toast) or at lunch- a sandwich. Of course, the bread should be thin sliced, hearty, whole grain bread because it tastes better, fills you up more and is less fattening than other breads.
Share your food
Let’s face it. Most North American restaurant portions are humongous. We think you will find that if you start sharing food with your dining partner you will still feel satisfied. Sometimes the entrée may be big enough to split. More often you may both want to have an entrée, but split an appetizer or dessert. It’s surprising, even to us, that sometimes just a taste will get the craving out of your system. If you do decide on splitting an appetizer, don’t order a dessert and visa versa.
Think of wine/alcohol as a dessert
We like to picture a glass of wine like a glass of liquid sugar. It’s a real treat. So if we order one, we know that this very special and we drink it slowly, and savor it as if it is gold. This little visualization trick helps us to order something light to balance out the treat, such as fish and vegetables instead of pasta with cream sauce. And if course if we’ve had wine ( dessert) , we don’t need any other dessert.
Try the Perfect Snack
Here’s one we use at home. When 3:00 rolls round and we’re about to stuff 6 cookies in our mouths we reach for a diet mozzarella cheese stick + 2 or 3 walnuts /almonds and couple of slices of crisp apple or pear. Try it. It’s very satisfying!!
Use the SeesawMethod of Eating
We don’t diet, in the sense of following some crazy menu plan, but we do think of eating like a seesaw. You eat a little too much one day, you cut back the next. The worst thing to do is to eat, eat, eat for five days and then try to adjust by eating almost nothing for a few days. Who can do that? It’s insane, like when one person has jumped off one side of the seesaw, the other side crashes to the ground and it’s impossible to get back the seesaw back up and in balance again.
I’ll have it next time
If we are really craving a sweet or something greasy and fat, we like to say to ourselves “Look I’ll try that next time.” Just knowing that we can have it, but we’re delaying it a little, really helps. By the time next time comes around we’ve comes to our senses and don’t want to order it anyway. If for some reason this trick is not working for us another thing we do is picture the thing – the hot sticky Cinnamon bun, or hot greasy fries, as cold and dried out. Think of fries as if they have sat around for 3 hours, and then imagine them as a cold, greasy lump in your stomach. Suddenly those fries don’t seem worth it.
