The other day a girlfriend, Linda, sent the most wonderful quote by fashion designer, Miuccia Prada from a New York Times article:

Fashion designer Miuccia Prada words of wisdom~
“Women always try to tame themselves as they get older, but the ones who look best are often a bit wilder. Thinking about age all the time is the biggest prison women can make for themselves”!

These lace up loafers are a fun trend to try out!
Ha! This one really hit home to me, since we know many women that feel:
1) That they don’t know how to wear the trends and after a certain age sp just give up and play it safe.
OR
2) Feel that they just can’t be as wild or trendy as we were when they
were young.
Today we are going to chat about why these myths should certainly be BUSTED!
While traveling last week, I spotted this gal at the airport that looked well dressed and from first glance …a little on the conservative side. However, when I looked down, she had on these dazzling Oxfords! No boring flats or tennis shoes for this gal! She was certainly showing her style personality, by saying with her outfit, “Overall I’m classy, but I have a fun side to me as well! “
We have been seeing the trend of updating your traditional slip on loafers to more of a menswear feel and it looks like they are going to be around for a while! There are a lot of versions of these and you might enjoy going out and trying on a pair and seeing if you want to add a bit of whimsy to your casual shoe collection!
 |
These are the same as shown above, by Cole Haan, but are a bit pricey at $239.00 |
 |
Zappos carries these suede loafers by DV ($69.00) |
 |
These are a little more subtle! (Zappos, $95.00) |
 |
Steve Madden knows how to make a shoe that will show your wild side! (Nordstrom $59.00) |
 |
This version is not as stylish as the others since the toe is a bit more pointy but the price is right and they would look nice with black pants! (JC Penney, $24.00) |

Hi Glam Gals,
I am 69, petite, currently wearing a size 2. My grandchild is getting married this Summer. The wedding will be in a church with a reception later in the day. I just purchased this eggplant ruched dress and I would appreciate your honesty about whether it works.
Thanks Mary
Dear Mary,
Yes, We love the X-scape beaded ruched dress from Nordstrom and think it will look beautiful on you since you’re Petite. ( left click on dress to see enlarged version)
Normally we would not recommend a dress with a lot of rushing because it can make anyone over a size 4 appear heavier than they really are in photos. We suggest you take a photo of yourself in the dress and see if you like the way you appear. This is key because things don’t always look the same in a photo as they look in person.

Below are some other dresses we found that we like for any of you other ladies out there who might be going to a wedding and are not sure what to wear.
If you are the Mother of the Bride or Groom, be sure to pick up a copy of our Tweak Your Chic Mother of the Bride eBook to help you look your absolute best!
| Lovely in Lace! Who says they don’t make dresses with sleeves anymore? We found a beauty. It’s an Adrianna Papell Lace overlay dress with fringed eyelash trim and scalloped edge. The boat neck is great for pear body types with narrow shoulders. This neckline will balance you out.(Nordstrom) |
 |
| Twinkle! Dainty and delightful this Kathy Hilton cream sheath softly sparkles without stealing the show. (Nordstrom) |
 |
| Breezy and Easy! You’ll feel feminine in this Adriana Papell Iridescent Chiffon Petal Gown with chiffon overlay, not to mention the empire waist on this dress is a good way to hide a bit of a tummy.(Nordstrom) |

Deborah on the set of her TV show Backyard Pleasures
Earth Day is around the corner and both Deborah and I are big gardeners and lovers of all things outdoors! Deborah produced and starred in her own TV series on HGTV called Backyard Pleasures and has been known to go for more exotic activities like bungee jumping! I, (JoJami) tend to stick to the more mundane ones, like organic gardening, hiking and kayaking!

Fabulous After 40 and Aveeno featured on The Martha Stewart Show, Friday, April 20th at 10am EST
However, when Aveeno recently asked if I would go on the Martha Stewart Show as an Aveeno Brand Ambassador for her special Earth Day show, I did my own version of high jumping… around the kitchen, that is!
When you have a chance to be on national TV it is important that you look the part and dress appropriately for your segment. So, I had to think hard about what I was going to wear.
The producers of the Martha Show requested that I bring 2 outfits that were colorful.
Next, I knew that I wanted to look nice but not too dressy since, after all, this was the Earth Day Show and Martha usually wears just a blouse or top that’s not too fancy.
I also had a budget in mind since I didn’t want to have to buy something that was too expensive.
Here is what I ended up wearing:

Top and cropped sweater by NY and Co. and white skirt by Express.
Little did I know that I would be standing the entire time behind a large table and only my top half was going to show. (I had brought 4 pairs of shoes with me, so I could pick what felt right to wear when I got there!)
Oh, I didn’t want to forget to tell you about my experience in getting my make-up done.

A big "thank you" goes out to make-up artist Deborah Jones who is a true talent!
The make-up artist was a fabulous over 40 gal named Deborah Jones who took one look at me and said, “I’m going to re-do your blush!” Hmm…this was going to be interesting! What she ended up doing was putting some light peach blush at the top of my cheek bone right under my eye. This was a fantastic trick and gave my face a nice lift. Normally, I put my blush right under and around my cheekbone…so I can’t wait to try this new way in the future! She did a beautiful job on my make-up, it was very natural looking but didn’t wash me out under the hot lights.
So finally it was my time to go on the set and meet Martha! I walked over and stood beside her and I noticed right away that she was so tall and beautiful, and had such a calming presence. She is a true professional and made my job easy.
I was there to talk about the new Aveeno Be An Active Naturals program. Aveeno is awarding eight $10,000 grants to those individuals and organizations who are in their communities, volunteering, teaching and inspiring! If you want to tell your story how you are making a difference, make sure to visit the Aveeno Facebook page and enter.
And next time you’re going to be on TV make sure that you are well prepared! To find out more, check out our Media CD program : TV Image Live!, How to get on TV and look like a star!

Deborah in her robin's egg blue Spring coat
Spring is here!
My garden is full of robins, which got me thinking about one of my favorite buys ever, my robin’s egg blue spring coat.
Like a trench coat, this double breasted “Jackie O” style is a classic. I’ve had lots of wear out of it over the years.
It’s a great example how the right color can make all the difference.
In the color analysis world, I am a “SPRING” which means I look best in light, warm, clear colors of a spring garden.
(Can you imagine this coat in black on me? It would wash the life out of me)
How is your spring coat shopping going?
Do you need a new one? Here’s a look at a few of our favorites that might work for you:
Sound the Sirens!
You’ll look red hot in this Kenneth Cole New York Walker Coat. It’s flattering for all body types. (Nordstrom) |
 |
Piping Hot!
The black piping on this double-breasted Kate Spade New York Topliner trench coat is very in at the moment. The beauty of this detail is that the vertical piping creates a long slimming line making you look taller and thinner.(Nordstrom) |
 |
Easter Egg Blue
You can’t help but feel happy in this cheery blue Kate Spade’s Katarina coat. Its clean lines, collarless neckline and simple A-line fit make it modern choice. But wait, there’s a sweet secret…a vintage print lining! (Nordstrom) |
 |
Green with Envy
If you like the look of a traditional trench but want to liven things up a bit, then go for this London Fog Hooded Trench Coat in soft green. Betcha everyone you meet will be asking,”Where did you get your coat?” (Nordstrom) |
 |
Cool Collar
Fashion forward and fabulously cool, this navy blue Ali Ro Short Sleeve Anorak gleams with golden hardware. Love the chic collar!(Nordstrom) |

Did you buy a spring coat. Email us a photos and we’ll post it!

JoJami and her daughter Tessa show off their comfy summer dresses!
Casual dressing is where we see so many women stuck in a rut. It’s tempting to just put on those same pair of shorts, jeans or Capri’s and never bother with trying anything else! So what would be an alternative to jeans, Capri’s and shorts? We say, the little cotton dress!
Recently, I (JoJami) got to model for a wonderful boutique, Peter Kate Shoes with my daughter Tessa.
This dress is from Three Dots
and because I am of average height (5’4″) the hem hits me right behind the knee which is a great length!
As for comfy shoes, these cork wedges give me some height yet you could just as easily pair it with a strappy, flat sandal as well.
The purse is just the right size in proportion to my body so even though it’s over sized it doesn’t take away from the outfit. (Good tip to think about when you purchase a new handbag!)
Next time you go shopping use this “style recipe” to update your wardrobe! It works well for lots of casual outings like shopping, going out to lunch or a stroll through a museum.
Here are a few more dress ideas you might like. Make sure to check out the last one…..you might be in for a little surprise!
| Wide straps. Picking the right style is key! A wider strap will always be more flattering on our over 40 gals! (Nordstrom) |
 |
| No Fuss! Just slip this dress over your head and you’re out the door looking pretty! (Nordstrom) |
 |
| Updated Print! The tribal print and bright colors are so updated and chic for Spring! (Nordstrom) |
 |
| Don’t get discouraged if you think this is too short! Here’s a good example of why we “think” we can’t find anything to buy! This is the same dress I have on but in this photo it’s being modeled by a very tall gal. You might pass on this dress, thinking it looks way too short! However, when I tried it on my 5’4″ frame, it hit me in the middle of my knee….a very flattering and much more age-appropriate length. So don’t give up and always check the measurements before ordering on line! (Saks) |
