Oh Baby! It’s getting cold outside. Time to rethink your beauty routine to save face as the weather changes.
No doubt, we should all be aware that the sun is one of the top aging factors out there, and we need to make sure that we keep our skin protected daily. That means applying sunscreen every morning. Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered why your skin doesn’t look the same as it did in your 20′s 30′s or beyond? Our skin is ever-changing and so are skincare ingredients. There are a few basic rules that should be followed for good skin, especially since our skin can show the damage and neglect of our youth.
We do want to look our best, after all!
Always cleanse your face, especially before bedtime.
Wash the day’s dirt and grime and makeup off your face so your skincare can do its work. Nighttime is the best time for your skin to repair itself and starting with a clean palette is important. Look for a cleanser labeled “gentle”.
During the day use a stabilized Vitamin C.
Vitamin C is important in protecting the skin from future damage of the sun and environment. But in order for it to work it must be in a stabilized form. Look for a dark bottle and it must be used within 6 months, otherwise it is useless. SkinCeuticals and others offer great choices.
At night use a retinoid product.
There are many to choose from which include over the counter versions to much stronger prescription ones. Retinoids are the only proven product to reverse signs of aging. They take a bit for the skin to adjust so begin slowly and work your way up in strength.
Look for moisturizers with hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acids reportedly hold their nearly 1,000 times their weight in water so your skin looks plumped and less wrinkled.
Peptides are another important skin care ingredient.
Peptides have been known to interact with your skin to do a variety of things such as stimulating collagen production – another factor in keeping skin youthful looking.
Prevent future damage and skin cancer by always applying a sunscreen.
Some beauty products like retinoid can increase your sun sensitivity, so a sunscreen is a must.
