In the Fall I wrote about the Oversized Coat Trend that was popular on runways and some of you commented you thought the look was too ridiculously big and bulky to look good on a real women, so that’s why I wanted to show you this.
I fell in love with this cashmere Max Mara coat and had to have it. It is the voluminous style we spoke of, which I have never worn before – I’m a “fitted type” of gal. Anyway, Do you see how the look has been toned down for retail sales to real women?
It’s a good reminder that what you see on the runways isn’t reality. It’s exaggerated. So if you see a trend you think is weird, don’t turn your nose up immediately. If you look around you might find a version that is actually quite attractive.
This happened to me with this dress below.
I posted about Zig Zag Prints in October and I thought o.k., not for me, too busy. I’m not a pattern person. But then I saw this dress and the color and the cut were so flattering that I took a shine to the busy print.
Good lesson here again- not to get stuck in a rut! You really do have to try things on and be open minded. I think a lot of us that we have been doing fashion for so long that we have a “been there, done that” attitude and we pass on a lot of things that might look really great.
Also, there are are a lot of bright colors and color blocked outfits, especially with bright jeans. I know many women think- “no way!” They think they are going to look like a peacock, but you have to remember that is the way everyone is looking these days, bright and vibrant, so you will blend right in. That’s the fashion.
Color also gives you energy and energy is life. I talk about that in my ebook Color Me Fabulous: The Colors You Need To Wear To Look Age-Amazing™. You want to look alive, right?… not like one foot in the grave?
I saw a grandmotherly looking woman at our local chinese food restaurant and she looked Fab! She wasn’t one of those perfectly decked-out fashionistas, but she had on purple jeans tucked into riding boots and a cream and purple sweater. She didn’t look like a peacock, one bit. She looked modern and hip and fit right in. Hats off to her- a true glam gal.
So, go for it ladies. Experiment, Take chances, Have Fun. Life is too short to be Frumpy!
