Ruffled-bottom peplum tops were a huge hit on the runways for spring, so it’s no surprise that designers pushed it further adding ruffles to many of their designs.
Ruffles are the new way to add some feminine frill to a minimalist look. The ruffles showcased for spring 2013 were big and bold, no timid little things. The feel was feminine, but also powerful and dramatic.
Of course ruffles aren’t everyone’s style over 40. They might feel too girly for you if you are more the sporty or elegant type of woman. However, if you love the softness and prettiness of a ruffle here is an outfit we have put together that transitions runway to reality. Take a look:
Nothing too wild and crazy here. This outfit, above, is classic, but still trend-on with this striking ruffle blouse at the center of it all. The ruffles on the blouse are large enough to make a statement, but not so enormous they make the blouse hard to wear for the average woman over 40, over 50 and beyond.
Love the black border on this blouse and the way it encircles the keyhole neckline. (The keyhole neckline is part of another big trend we’ve told you about Asian Allure) The black and white color block effect is fashion forward, youthful and adds a stylish punch to what could be a plain, old, boring white ruffle top.
Now let’s talk about the rest. The pants..simple, black, flowing and with that wide flare, excellent to balance out your hips. They’re so chic with this blouse, wouldn’t you agree?
The Bag- Gorgeous! The Faux alligator leather and the chain handle on the tote add some texture to this outfit. The silk scarf, which you can wear under the trench, can also be tied onto your bag to pull this whole look together and give you style over 40, 50 and beyond.
The Shoes- Oh those Valentino shoes. Yes! Aren’t they sexy? and the kitten heel makes them comfortably low too. They’re the ‘wow” surprise that pops out under you pants leg as you strut down the street or sit down and cross you legs. What’s really cool about them is 1) the seductive cutout and ankle strap 2) the spiky studs- which are appearing on many bags and shoes this spring.
They have a “50 Shades of Grey” edge to them which really shakes things up and give this traditional ensemble some bite! (Imagine this outfit with plain black pumps. The outfit would look “nice” but these shoes add a touch of “naughty” and would really look even more “wow” with this blouse + a black skirt, or skinny jeans that come to the top of the ankle to really show them off.)
Will you wear bold ruffles this spring? Tell us where? Comment on this post and let me know what you think. I love hearing from you.
