Going To A Networking Event? What Do You Wear?

Deborah and JoJami at the More Re-invention convention!

Last week Deborah and I started working on what to wear to the More Re-Invention Convention and we picked out several outfits…

Here is what we ended up wearing and why:

  • Dash of color: Wanted to stand out.
  • A Jacket: Always looks professional
  • Heels: makes the legs look longer!
  • Deborah added a Suzi Roeher belt to nip in her waist.
  • JoJami opted for back fishnets to add some “zing” to her outfit.
  • Deborah accessorized with a black crystal and gold necklace.
  • JJ added a scarf! and thick leather wrap belt.

JJ’s jacket is from Anthropology, fishents from White House Black Market, shoes Ashley  Austin.

  1. Love JoJami style; it’s fresh and funny (scarf + shoes +jacket are great)
    Cheers from Rome,
    Liliana.

    • Hi Liliana,
Thanks and keep us posted on what’s going on in the fashion scene from Rome.. what great style you ladies have there! Both Deborah and I travel a lot and right now I (JoJami) am in London and it is Nov. The women all have on boots, both to the knee and over the knee and seeing lots of shiny black puffer coats and of course wonderful scarves everywhere!

  2. Love this article. And I really appreciated your comments about colour. I can’t say how many times I’ve been to events where 90% of the women are in black.

I’m also pleased about your comments about the wide belts. I’ve seen them in stores & remember them from the 80s but wasn’t sure if they suited. I will now head out for a wide one with some stretch so sitting & standing is comfortable.

  3. You both look fantstic. I have a quick question. Do you consider your hoisery tights? I ask because you frequently write about tights being great while hose are possibly less trendy. I like your dresses with sheer black tights, if that’s how you classify them. Mia

    • Hi Mia,
Our wording can get confusing, so we are glad you ask. Deborah has on Secret black ultra sheer pantyhose. Both of us also like Wolford hose too.
JoJami has on fishnets from White House Black Market. We also like opaque black or brown tights to wear with boots and pumps if the look is more casual.
Best of all, tights hold up a lot better than a sheer hose.

  4. You both look marvelous! The heels make an outfit more dressy….and I’m surprised at how much better any outfit can look with a wide belt! I just bought one and wore it for the first time and it felt great! Love it! ♥

  5. I am a volunteer for a wonderful charity called, Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. Next week I am staffing our booth at a huge convention/show at the Javitz Center in NYC. I don’t have a lot of business type clothes, I work as a RN, so I was wondering can I go a little edgy which is my style. Black skirt and flat motorcycle boots or I have one blue suit that I wore for a TV interview a few years ago. I’m working two days so a few ideas would be good, thank you so much I really enjoy your site.

    • Hi Sharon,
The big question you have to ask yourself is, what type of people do you want to attract to your booth? We are thinking that you want to be approachable and that means the black leather would def. not be the best choice. You blue suit sounds perfect. We would recommend finding a pretty colored soft blouse to wear under it! Some simple flats will keep you comfortable for the long days of standing! It is really hard for us to give advice if we don’t have a photo of you in the outfit.
We would be happy to give you feedback if you want to send it to us at info@fabulousafter40.com
