A winter maxi is a glam alternative for cocktails, date night and more. To get the look right:
Choose a Solid Color Skirt
Floral print maxis, striped maxis or maxi skirts with other casual patterns look fun and funky during the day, but come evening you need something more sophisticated. A solid colored maxi in a deep rich shade like burgundy, or bright, bold modern color like poppy red will take your from day to night and give you a more elegant look.
Pair you Maxi Skirt with a Dressy Top
Cotton t-shirts or heavy sweaters worn with a maxi don’t cut it in the evening. Instead, elevate your look by pairing you maxi skirt with a beautiful long-sleeved silk blouse that has some pretty embellishment, or wear it with a glittery sequined top or camisole. This will definitely glam things up a bit.
Top it Off with a Blazer
A jean jacket or big sweater worn with a maxi skirt make look hippie chic by day, but by night you need to step it up a notch. You can’t go wrong with a beautiful, fitted jacket in a fine fabric to add a touch of formality.
Emphasize Your Waist
It’s easy to drown out your shape in all that fabric and look frumpy in a maxi. That’s why it is important define and highlight your waist. To do this try tucking in your top, adding a belt, or both! If neither of those work for your shape, buttoning a fitted blazer over top will do the trick!
Show a Sliver of Skin
Too much coverage is aging, and not appropriate for evening, so be careful you don’t look old lady. No turtlenecks, high-necked tops or double-breasted jackets. A V-neck or scoop neck always looks fresh.
Choose Low Heeled Boots
Play up the bohemian vibe of a maxi by pairing your maxi skirt with ankle booties or low heeled boots. Combat boots are fun by day but in the evening you want something more polished. The key is to go with a finer boot/bootie such as a classy leather riding boot, a refined cowboy bootie or an elegant, suede flat or low heeled boot or bootie.
Add Glam Accessories
The boho look is all about layering and accessories is a big part of that. Be sure to add a statement necklace to glam up your look for evening and some other fab jewelry too. Switch out your slouchy boho bag for a chic clutch and you’re ready for a night on the town. It’s the small details that keep your look pulled-together and picture perfect.
