Dresses have been a popular favorite in our fashion trends contest where I invited readers to get creative and design an outfit based on a Spring fashion trend.
Winners 10 and 9 played up Spring’s hottest colors, Emerald Green and Monaco Blue. Nautical shades and soft, feminine looks with lace came from our winners 8 and 7, while Winners 6 and 5 were all about bright colors and bold animal prints. Today, I’m honoring winner # 4!
Winner #4 Clean and Classic by Barbara Gillespie
Fashion is going green these days in more ways than one. Barbara, who also was winner #6 for her creation called Naturally Spring, posted a really practical everyday look in citrus shades that readers loved and gave a big thumbs up to. That’s probably because casual dresses for women over 40 that are simple and classy are hard to find. This Daniel Hecter cotton frock fits the bill.
What’s to like about it? Well, besides being that refreshing shade of green, the style is fab. I mean how many times have been out to the stores, tried on countless sleeveless dresses and wondered when designers are ever going to make dresses that cover the arms again?
If you are not big on exposing your arms at this stage of the game, this dress is for you. It covers the saggy bits, yet because the sleeves are short and cuffed you still look sporty, youthful and full of style over 40.
This collar neckline is really good for helping define your figure. If you have small shoulders and a bigger bottom half, or you just find you are getting softer and rounder shoulders now you are a little older , then you’ll find that this top with its tailored shoulder creates structure. A stronger, wider shoulder gives the illusion that your waist is smaller and that you are curvier than you are. The v neckline flatters every woman making your neck look longer and you look leaner.
Now let’s talk about that bag- pretty sporty!! It’s a Mani across the Body bag – easy to wear when you are busy and need something unfussy.
And the shoes… how fun! These printed croc leather, high platform wedges add some texture and personality to what could be a plain outfit, despite the bright color. If you’ve got great legs, shoes like this create a focal point are a the perfect way to draw the eyes down to your great gams! They say the legs are the last to go..don’t they?
What do you like about this outfit? Is there any other kind of casual dresses for a woman over 40 you like better? Comment below and let me know.
Be sure to stay tuned for more Spring fashion inspiration when I will feature winner #3, next post!
