Plaid stopped working for me at about age 26 when I had a plaid “Christmas” skirt someone bought me as a gift. Some of the suggestions here look fine on the models I guess – but not “great.” I find prints in particular are a challenge to me – small prints look too cheap or busy and larger ones can be too distracting.

Let me clarify – I had the plaid purse in my forties, and not when I was in first grade.

I have loved plaid since first grade. I had a plaid purse that I loved, it was a Burberry knockoff. It went great with jeans or dressier outfits, and with both summer and winter outfits. I also get a plaid fix with clothes not seen in public, like plaid panties and plaid flannel pajamas. The purple plaid trench coat – I love it!
