I recently posted some lovely women’s beach cover-ups that were all quite different, but beautiful in their way. It got me thinking how a themed beach look always looks so chic.
So I asked stylist Morgan Mullin to create three interesting beach looks that are both figures flattering and unique in personality. Take a look:
Start with a girly color like pink, add a touch of hippie spirit, and you’ll end up looking like a boho beach babe.
This feminine ruched one-piece works wonders to smooth a bigger belly, and a deep V-neckline draws the eye upwards away from a problem middle section. The floppy hat and the straw bag with its exotic paisley elephant motif adds a relaxed world traveler touch. A sheer, kimono-style cover-up loosely belted with tassels is sexy and free-flowing like the wind.
Do you love vintage? Would you love to try a retro glam look? There’s a reason Marilyn Monroe and her peers loved structured swimsuits: They hold, lift and support all your curves.
To keep your one-piece current, choose a fun print like polka dots or vivid, solid color. Add 50’s sunglasses and a crisp white men’s button-up shirt- the ultimate classic cover-up.
Feeling like a one-piece is too covered up, but a bikini bares too much? Enter the tankini, the perfect middle ground. If your lower body is the area you’re self-conscious about, a skirted tankini works well.
Pick a sleek suit with a skirt that grazes the bottom of your bum to get the added coverage without looking dowdy. A slit, contrast trim, or bit of detail will make it look more modern. Just avoid ruffles and skirted styles that reach mid-thigh, as they are very aging.
This cape like cover-up is unique and glamorous. Wear it with big, dark sunglasses and a big summery tote for a look that’s first class.
A Note about Accessories
- If you go for a suit that’s printed, scale back on accessories to keep your look chic. Meanwhile, if your suit is solid-color, add interest with bold extras.
- For footwear, stick to simple flip-flops. Anything else just looks like you’re trying too hard! As for a purse, forget anything leather. Opt for light colors in straw, cotton, and other fabrics that breathe, or even a perforated tote!
- Don’t overlook hats. Fedora styles add a bit of tomboy cool while wide-brimmed varieties can be boho or super-glam.
- Sunglasses finish your look. An oversized pair adds glamor like nothing else while cat-eye shapes are playfully retro. Find out how to pick the right sunglasses here.
Have fun at the beach!
