Red Alert for Fall 2011

We always feel like kids in a candy store at this time of year. All the new fall clothes are arriving and there’s so much choice that it’s hard to know what to buy.

One thing that is for sure on our lists  is something RED.  Red is fall’s boldest new hue and it’s exciting and gorgeous! This season you will have your pick of hundreds of reds from Santa Claus red to scarlet, crimson, tomato red, burgundy and garnet.

There are lots of ways to wear red too. For example:

  • a solid streak of red such as a single red dress – That’s what I am on the lookout for!
  • mixing different reds tone on tone for a dramatic and slimming effect
  • color blocking using red to highlight your best features
  • red as an accessory, like as a purse or a shoe

Not Your Daughter's Jeans - Nordstrom

I must admit I ( Deborah) have always been a bit of a red-aholic. I feel so happy and energetic wearing red, but I know there are some women who shy away from red because it makes them feel “too visible.”

To that we say, Visible, schmizable! Ladies, after 40 we need to look  little more lively. God knows we’ve got everything else dragging us down.

Try a little red. It will light you up and make you look vibrant, not to mention modern and right in style. Send us a picture of you in your new red fall purchase and we’d love to post it.

In the meantime, congratulations to  Loretta Marley, the winner of  our contest. You  have won these  cool red jeans from Not Your Daughter’s Jeans.

  1. I love red. I always feel dynamic when I wear red. I’ve never had red pants though so wearing Not Your Daughters Jeans would be really fun. Thanks for the contest.

  2. I’m excited about RED being the color of the season! its my favorite!

  3. Monica Hale says:

I love red! And it does make me feel happy and energetic. It also helps “lift” the eye away from downward falling areas. My closet is filled with red garments and assessories. However, I don’t have a single pair of red jeans! Yet, that is!

  4. Love red in my wardrobe – always have. Sophisticated and fun at the same time! Dying to try red jeans.

  5. Just a little bit of red for me!

  6. Hi everyone, I have just returned from a fabulous trip to Spain and Italy and red was everywhere! I have always been a fan, in fact red and black were my staples years ago. However since passing 50 (!) I tend to lean towards softer colours…..well not anymore! On my trip I bought a really cute pair of red patent sandals, they have a small wedge and a red snake skin strap, just wonderful and they go with so many thigs. My last name means red in Dutch so Red is back in every way! I’m sure a pair of red jeans would be perfect with ALL my new shoes from Europe!

  7. I am not sure if I am brave enough to wear red pants but they look so great I think I may have to rock them. I am struggling with the menopausal bulge and confidence is low but I feel good in brighter colours so I am glas at the resurgence of red!

  8. I love the red jeans! I am not a big fan of red from the waist up, but would definitely try these.

  9. Over 40, and adjusting to a complete image change I have come to test everything, :)), from boring clothes to now exploring color and new styles. I have learned more about fashion these last 2 years than at any other time in my life! Red rocks, yes, even for grannies!!

  10. I LOVE red! I drive a red cadillac, and carry a beautiful red purse. I have 2 red coats; a trench with ruffles along the bottom, and a pea coat. Red is a great color for perking up winter days with little sunshine. I LOVE these jeans!

  11. I love wearing red. I always feel vibrant & alive when there’s red in my wardrobe.

  12. RED I’m an Aries it’s our color, as we are a fire sign! our birthstone is Diamonds! Aries are un-breakabld!

  13. I love red! I wear it all the time. :)

  14. Red has always been my fav color, since I was a litle girl! I don’t wear it very often although I do have some red tops, but I seem to have communicated my passion for the color genetically to my son who wears it all the time. I often do all red loads of laundry!

  15. I am super excited about red jeans. I have always wanted a pair and am thrilled they are ‘in’ this year!

  16. Red is awesome! It is fun and happy!

  17. Totally love the pop of color red jeans provide for the fall. A really trendy alternative to regular denim. Just make sure you don’t overdo. No red blouse, sweater or jacket. Just the jeans only please!

  18. Betti Reagan says:

I had a pair of red jeans back in 1973 and got rave reviews . Maybe if I had a new pair in 2011…..

  19. I’ve never been afraid to wear red — it’s one of my favorite colors to wear!

  20. I love red, but sometimes I think it makes my complexion ruddy… I don’t know. I think red on the bottom (pants) would be a good way to rock red!

  21. OOOooooh – love the red pants!

  22. I don’t have anything like this, but I’m trying to break out of my black, black and more black safety net. I’m losing weight and getting into shape and my interest in fashion is returning!

  23. I love red anything! Red makes me feel happy!

  24. I agree with Elvis Costello, the Angels want to wear my red shoes. I always have a pair of red shoes. My favorite pair were red clogs that I wore when I was teaching school in the jungle’s of Belize, and the Indians always wanted to hold them and examine them closely. Red shoes always make me feel like every day a wonderful adventure is coming my way

  25. I tend to steer away from red. Find that it’s a little too brassy. Though a toned down red seems more regal…something with a little more ‘blue’ in it…leaning toward cranberry or maroon..

  26. I love red, have always loved red, and always have a couple of red items in circulation. Back in the day, my good “power” suit was red. Yes, you’re “visible” — but that means on the day(s) you wear red — you go out there ‘bringing your best game!’ I’ve already followed your recent advice and purchased a few items in “jewel tones” for Fall 2011 and will, no doubt, get something nice and red as well! Thank you for all your wonderful advice!

  27. Red is my favorite color, and definitely is a pick-me-up for me!
