Farewell, Farrah

farrah-fawcettWe are sad and disheartened to say goodbye today to one of our generation’s most prominent fashion icons.

Pin up model, movie actress and Charlie’s Angel star Farrah Fawcett lost her 3 year battle with cancer at 62 years old. She was the face (and hairstyle) that defined an era in American pop culture in the 1970s, and won over the world with her beaming smile and bombshell beauty.

She was a true Boomer Babe, and she will be missed.

Annette Bening- What would she do?

We’ve often said that if you are confused about what to wear to look age appropriate find a fashion role model and copy what she does, which brings us to a great article we just read that talks about this very thing.

annette-bening

When in doubt ask yourself … What would Annette Bening do?

Find over 40 fashion inspiration in chic Annette Bening, sexy Sharon Stone, natural beauty Goldie Hawn, romantic Jayne Seymour or elegant Iman. Pick a woman who you think looks Age-mazing (amazing for her age, as we like to say), and borrow a few style lessons.

The one things we notice that all these gals all have in common is that that they look classy, confident and sexy, in a grown up way. They are also consistently true to their own unique style. They have strong personal brands!

If you are still unsure about what to wear, aso take a good hard look what NOT to wear. Grab a copy of your favorite hollywood tabloid and study the photos of celebs like………….         who seem to latch onto every goofy, trashy fashion trend in a desparate attempt to look young. Burn these pictures in your brain! Don’t go there.

The Sartorialist

Imagine walking around the streets of Paris, Milan and  Amsterdam all day taking photographs of people (men, women, young, old) who you think have great style…. and then blogging about them!

scott-schumann

It’s a dream job and a day in the life for Scott Schuman. Scott is the creator host of the super popular fashion blog: The Sartorialist

He was the keynote speaker at the recent AICI (association of image consultants international) convention we attended where we got to listen to some of his great stories and meet this fast rising online/offline star in person.

Although we had heard of this blog we never looked at it until just the other day. Check it out because it is very cool. The people he shoots are so real and so unique in the way they dress.

The site has become so popular is has been selected as one of Time Magazine’s top 100 design influences. Designers and fashion types regularly visit the site to find inspiration and get inside the heads of potential customers.

All this got us thinking that we’d love to help inspire you. So we’re going to photograph some 40+ women we meet who we think have fabulous style and post their pictures here at Cafe Glam…….because really, where else are you going to find ideas on how to dress when you are in Chapter 2 of Life? There only a handful of role  models out there in magazines in ads, on TV. Not enough to really get inspired.

The best way to start looking great is to see what other stylish 40+ women are doing and borrow a few ideas from them. So if you think you or someone you know has great style at 40+ please submit a photo to us, with a line or two about what this woman is doing to make her look so Age-mazing™ (Amazing for her age) as we like to say. Just drop us an email at info@fabulousafter40.com.

How Cool are Your Sunglasses?

Aaah!!! Bye bye winter blues and hello sunshine!

Don’t be caught looking like a frumpy boomer this spring in boring, scratched up, out of date shades. Stylish sunglasses are a simple way to help you look Age-mazing™!

Oversized sunglasses are hot at the moment. Think 60′s and Jackie O. White and metallic rims are the newest trend, but black and tortoiseshell always work too.

Watch out for wildly overpriced designer shades that don’t deliver anything special other than their status name. Here are 3 pairs we like – quality glasses that will give you lots of glam for your dollar!

Kate Spade has some high stylin’ designs that won’t break the bank. They look classy, sophisticated, hip, and not overly trendy. kate-spade-sunglasses

Next, we spotted some good old classic Ray Bans. They’ve been popping up on all kinds of celebrities. Seems that they are back in style, and if you don’t have room in your purse for the larger frames, these are a great alternative.  www.sunglasshut.com

If you wear reading glasses and don’t want to keep switching back and forth between sunglasses and reading glasses, then you can always try a pair of reading sunglasses. Fashionable and functional they are a real hit with the baby boomer crowd! bifocal-sunglasses
