How to boost Your Energy in 2011
The Glam Gals recently had the opportunity to chat with health expert Sylvia Montens founder of the anti-agingweb.com. We have so many women ask us what to do to help them feel more energetic and so here are some of her suggestions.
Glam Gals (G.G.) Many women over 40 complain about lack of energy, what are some of your suggestions to help us feel better?
Anti-Aging Web (AAW) Energy is produced through a process called the krebs cycle, where the mitochondria turn foods into cellular energy. The more cellular energy is produced, the more energy you will have!
G.G. So how can you increase the production of cellular energy?
Anti-Aging Web (AAW)
1. Eat high energy foods
This is one of the most important things you can do. High energy foods include:- raw nuts and seeds- raw fresh food and vegetables- unprocessed grains- fish or lean fresh meat- cooked vegetables - yoghurt- beans and lentils.
An easy way to get a quick energy booster through food is to make an LSA powder. This consists of linseeds, sunflower seeds and almonds. You grind these to create a powder which you can keep in your freezer and just sprinkle over your food, whenever you need an energy boost.
2. Ensure that the mitochondria can do their work
The mitochondria can be damaged by free radicals, toxins and viruses. Things like pesticides, cigarette smokeartficial sweeteners, and unhealthy fats increase your risk, so make sure to avoid those. Another way to protect your mitochondria is to take plenty of anti-oxidants, like vitamins a, c, e, selenium and essential fatty acids.
3. Supplement with additional vitamins
To boost your energy even further, you can use some of the following supplements:
GinsengMagnesiumL-carnitineBeta CaroteneCalciumVitamin B complex
Instead of taking them all separately I take a special multivitamin that contains a lot of these, as well as some other beneficial anti-aging supplements in one tablet.
4. Banish stress
Stress and anxiety can strain your energy levels, so it is important to find ways to de-stress. I personally use tennis and yoga as a de-stresser. Yoga especially can connect you with yourself and your breath and in addition to boosting your energy levels, it will also make you stronger and more flexible!
5. Check your hormone levels
Many older women develop an inbalance in their hormones which can lead to lack of energy. I encourage all women over 40 to take a blood test to check their hormone levels.
6. Exercize regularly
Exercize will make you stronger and will eventually give you more energy. So make sure it is part of your daily routine.
Conclusion
Some of these might just sound like common sense, however Sylvia says she implements all of the steps above and by doing so her energy levels has gone up and that she feels healthier than ever.

Has Demi had cosmetic surgery?
Demi Moore swears she has never had cosmetic surgery.
If so, it would be interesting to know what she is uses on her face because she sure looks fabulous.
Can anyone really look this good by simply staying out of the sun, eating well and using a good anti-aging cream?
Many believe so. Every week we get anti-aging beauty products across our desk that promise a younger looking you. One of them, in particular, caught our eye.
It’s called Striking Skin care - a botancial based product that is powered by science. It uses something called Smart Peptides to target fine lines, loss of firmness and signs of hormonal aging like darkened, uneven and thinning skin. You can check out the video on the science of it all at You Tube.
Who knows…If you can find a good skin cream that works, it’s sure a lot less hassle than a facelift!
Have you tried Botox? Have you ever wondered is there something else you could try?
I (JoJami) sure had my interest peeked when Galvanic Spa representative, Kennerly Clay came over to my house to give me a demo of her anti-wrinkle treatment. I must say, it did plump up everyone’s skin and was not painful at all! We also found a great article about other alternatives to Botox, the other day, over at The Best Kept Secret. Here are some of Karen’s top tips from her research:
Cosmetic Acupuncture Okay, needles are involved but they’re tiny, have been used for thousands of years to treat all sorts of conditions and are not’t shooting toxins into our bodies. “It’s an inside out kind of treatment,” explains Shali Rassouli of the Cosmetic Acupuncture Clinic of Toronto. A licensed Chinese medicine practitioner, she described the process during a phone interview. “Acupuncture increases the local circulation to the face and stimulates collagen production, which will fill out the lines and give firmness to the skin.”
While she’s quick to point out that it’s not a quick fix –it takes up to 10-12 sessions over a six-month period before you’ll see results – she’s adamant that the results are worth it. “You’ll look like yourself, but better. And, there are no side-effects.”
The cost is around $1,000 for the recommended 10-12 treatments. If that’s all you do, you should keep seeing a difference for up to one year. But Rassouli points out that with monthly maintenance, things will just keep getting better. For more information, visit the Cosmetic Acupuncture website at http://www.cosmeticacupuncture.ca/.
Toning Technology When Maxine Warsh of Facial Rejuvenation contacted us and asked us if we’d be interested in experiencing a “non-surgical face lift”, we were intrigued and agreed to give it a try. The procedure involved applying a variety of electrical probes to different areas of the face. Mild electrical vibrations stimulate facial muscles. It’s not at all painful and, as you might expect, lying on a table for an hour or so is soothing in and of itself.
The results? Improved skin tone and a decrease in the appearance of lines and sagging. It’s also touted as being helpful in treating rosacea and acne. Maxine tells us we can expect to see some results after a single session but anyone who is serious about this should plan for an initial course of twelve, one hour-long sessions. A former yoga instructor in her early 50s, Maxine reports, “My clients boast that after even a single sessions their friends say they look rested, vibrant and like they’ve just returned from a long and happy vacation.” Looking at our reflection in the mirror at the end of our trial session we’d have to concur. The lines that run between our nose and mouth didn’t seem so pronounced.
And was it our imagination or did our facial skin seem a little tighter? Does it work? You be the judge. For more information, call Maxine at 416.221.0568 or visit her web site at www.MaxineWarsh.com.
Has the hot summer got your face looking dull?
Summer is the time to make sure to keep you face exfoliated.
Recently we came across a unique all woman company that we think is creating wonderful skin care products specifically for pre-menopausal and menopausal women called Emerita.
We tried their microdermabrasion (all natural) face scrub and loved it! It had just the right amount of scrubby granules to make this scrub gentle, and afterwords our face was smooth and glowing!
Then, we went onto to try the moisturizing cleanser and balancing toner, which we found both to work fine and to be extremely refreshing! (Probably because they have peppermint and rosemary and other natural oils in them.)
This company’s skin care products get the Glam Gal’s Seal of Approval!
We had never heard of this company before, but the story goes that it’s been around for 30 years! Has anyone else used these products and if so, do you like them and which ones?
While down in Palm Beach , Florida recently, I (JoJami) had the pleasure of staying at Frenchman’s Reserve, a fabulous private golf course and spa resort.
After one of the most wonderful facials at their private spa, much to my surprise, the esthetician recommended that I use a few products from the drug store.

One of the products she suggested was RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream. At $19.00 this Retinol rich cream will have your looking more youthful, with out shelling out the big bucks.
One of the most important keys to keeping our over 40 skin looking fantastic is exfoliating! Another recommended product was Olay Regenerist Thermal Mini-peel to keep skin looking bright and feeling clean.
One of our friends, Karen Hamilton writes a blog called The Best Kept Secret and she recently reported finding more great finds at the drug store. For example, Clarins has a fantastic product that rejuvenates and repairs skin called Double Serum Generation 6.

We have found that sometimes you don’t have to pay crazy prices for good products. Be aware that fancy packaging and pushy sales staff can be intimidating.
The main thing is no matter what your budget, keep skin well moisturized and drink lots of water!

We have a couple of more great tips that will keep you looking young and hip!
11) Update Your Old and Tired Looking Glasses
Do you realize that your glasses could be dating you? If your still wearing aviator frames or oversized Sally Jessy Raphael style glasses, it’s time to move on! Choose anything from a new wireless light weight version, to a smaller funky pair in a strong shape or color to look fresh and modern.
12) Add a Touch of Leopard Print
For a sexy boost, try adding a hint of leopard to your wardrobe. A leopard purse, pair of shoes or scarf will create drama to an otherwise boring outfit. But be warned.. Wearing any animal print head to toe will make you look like you just escaped from the zoo!
These are sure to make you purr!!
