I have a burning question that has been on my mind the last few months. I am a 47 year-old full-time mom of two very busy boys. Both boys play baseball and living in S. Texas, it gets fairly warm quickly.
Here would be a great top to go with a simple cotton skirt or yoga pants! The oversized sunglasses make the look!
I spend a lot of time at the ballpark and my former go-to outfit of Capri sweatpants, sneakers, and a t-shirt is now a “no go to” outfit I have learned since discovering your amazing website.By the way, thank you for that little bit of advice. It has been life changing!
I am 5’10″, not a girly girl, but athletically feminine. I want to carry my Fabulous After 40 new me into the ballpark but am totally stumped. I am concerned about looking like I’m trying too hard. I tend to gravitate toward a classic look with hints of trendy. And hats are tricky since I have shorter curly hair. Can you paaaleeeeese help me figure out what to wear? I’m talking head to toe help here!
Warm weather dressing challenged, Cheryl S.
Hi Cheryl,
My goodness, you are so adorable! We love hearing how you’ve had an “ah ha” moment when it comes to your casual look, in
that your “go to” casual outfit needed to be thought of as a “no go to” ! LOL! You raise several good questions that we would like to address:
1) Is it possible to dress casual and not look frumpy, even when you’re out in the middle of a field?
2) If so, how do you do that and not look like you’re trying too hard?
A few month ago, I (JoJami) found a wonderful striped t-shirt at the Tanger Outlet. I’ve had a lot of fun making outfits with it and so today have 3 looks for you to try by using this one simple piece.
If you want to stretch your wardrobe here is our latest How-to style video to show you how!
Jeans don't have to be pricey, these came from Old Navy.
This simple striped t-shirt $23.00 (Anne Taylor)
A bright pair of pants (Zara) are the perfect pairing with the stripes!
This would be nice for a night out on the town!

Happy Holidays!
We had so much fun the other night with our tele-seminar, How to Update Your Casual Style where we were playing around with different “style recipes” for dressing updated for fall. Many women fall off the style track when it comes to what they wear on the weekends. How many of us confuse being ”comfortable” and just don’t know how spice things up in a way that feels more stylish.
So, why not shift your focus from comfy, casual to pleasantly, stylish. That might mean trading in those white tennis shoes for some simple ballet flats or loafers. Now, for those living in a warmer climate when it is still fall can be a little more challenging. So today we are going to share our style recipe for dressing comfortable and casual.
In warmer climates you can still layer, but just use lighter weight fabrics:
Transitioning into fall can be frustrating. One day it’s hot, the next cool. It’s October so you don’t want to look like you’re still wearing your summer clothes yet it’s not cold enough to break out the turtlenecks. Time to “shop” in your closet, use one of your light weight dresses, add a few accessories or layers to transform your dress into a new outfit. That’s what we call dressing Chic on the Cheap!
Here are a few tips on how to gently transition into fall:
Wear darker, richer colors
Take a simple cotton dress and add a stretch belt
Tie on a light weight scarf
Time to get out the boots, especially on those rainy days
Here’s a little video to show you how:
