More casual dressing using color blocking!

On the road, Glam Gal JoJami is now in New Orleans, lapping up all the good food and music at the infamous New Orleans Jazz Festival!

Howdy from the Big Easy… today I was walking in the French Quarter and spotted these two adorable Glam Gals having lunch.

We had just done a post on color blocking and I just thought this red white and black combo was so striking I asked Libby Lowres (age 55) if she minded if I snapped a few photos. She was game!!!

Ends up she is currently living on the Fiji Islands! HOW COOL IS THAT?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

As I stared dissecting her outfit, the red jean skirt,black flats and Prada purse , it was like a treasure hunt!!

Then I noticed the red reading glasses on her head….”Oh put those on, they are wonderful!!!” I squealed with delight!

 

 

 

Next I spotted her red watch and asked her about it.  ”How funny, I just picked this up a few minutes ago, oh here you are going to love this….”

She opened up her purse and out came a red crystal iPhone cover!!!

 

 

 

Just then, Libby’s friend, Carolyn Leaney (age 51)  from Auckland, New Zealand sauntered up to see what all the commotion was about!

 

“I just did a blog about summer dressing in all white and here you are, a wonderful example!”

“Ha!, I’m so thrilled you think so! My 18-year-old daughter was recently stopped on the street in New Zealand by a fashion blogger, now I can tell her that I was too!”

Needless to say, these two Glam Gals were having a blast and looking fab while out on the town!!!!

 

 

 

Are your shoes too tight?

A couple of weeks ago I blogged about all the great shoes I had bought this fall and how I love them because they are so comfy.. that was until I had to stand 10 hours in them.

By the end of the day my feet seemed to have expanded and my new brown pumps felt super narrow. Did I buy the wrong size?

My comfy size 8′s (have worn size 8 all my life) suddenly felt like a size 6! I guess the widening feet syndrome is all part of aging. Anyway, what was I to do?..until a friend suggested   a shoe stretcher.

Have you ever heard of one?

It’s a wooden form that fit into your shoe overnight. You crank it open like  a window and it expands, thus also stretching your shoe width wise. ( doesn’t affect length).

There’s even a little attachment you can screw onto the form to make room for your bunions!  I was skeptical, but bought one at the shoemaker for $25.99 ( works in both left and right shoe).  After two cranks of the turner and 12 hours later, my shoe was definitely wider.

I love this thing! Now I’m working on the other foot.

Clogs that pass the fashion test this Spring!

OK OK…you ladies are sure passionate about your clogs!

We recently wrote a post to discuss whether clogs were in fashion and you left us lots and lots of comments.

Many of you wrote that you loved the comfort of a clog, while others thought they were “hideous”!

Well, after causing so much fuss, I (JoJami) thought I would take a look around and find out if there were  any clogs that I might actually wear.  I happen to be out in Aspen right now and it is amazing how different women dress when the weather is really messy most of the winter. I definitely  have been seeing more boots, but I’m sure as the snow melts many of these women are going to be sporting clogs since this is such a casual environment.

Here is an interesting article on how to wear clogs that show a few of the new “fashion” clogs. As you can see, even these skinny young girls do not look all that great in them, so can you imagine us over 40 gals!

However,  if you  still want to try to wear the clog as a fashion trend this Spring, then here are some of my picks! (Deborah says she has yet to find any clog she finds attractive! )

How not to look frumpy in a clunkier shoe

Hi, Deborah and JoJami,

I would love your advice on how not to look frumpy when I have to wear clunker shoes because of foot problems. Because of an old skiing injury, I have been unable to wear heels since I was in my 20’s, which makes it hard to look and feel sexy, or even professional, when I want to dress up. I’m limited to certain brands of shoes recommended by my foot doctor and orthopedic surgeon so it’s not just a matter of being able to wear flats.

For example, I’d love to wear leggings this Fall as shown in the photo on your website, but I can’t wear heels.

I’d appreciate any advice you can give me. Many thanks!

Dear Nancy,

We sure wish we could wave a magic wand with your problem, but it is not that simple. However, your problem is one that many women face. We get letters all the time from women that can not wear heels.

That being said, you can still look fabulous but just have to try styles that might not be the latest trends.

The good news for you is that with styles changing so often, almost anything goes when it comes to pant styles.

When you are stuck having to wear clunky shoes, there are several things to make sure you do not do. First off, is leggings will be out of the question for you. Since the style is really a “pencil” shape, no matter what you do, legging will just not look good with a clunky shoe. Instead, you will need to opt for any pant that has a wide leg and (or) has some flair at the bottom.

This will still be stylish, and you can wear almost any shoe. Also, there are some great brands of shoes out there that do sell some comfortable shoes that don’t look orthopedic.

These Taryn Rose flats are comfy and stylish	Actually if you can wear this type of flat shoe you could still wear it with a skinny jean and look great!
This is good with pants only!	Once you have to start wearing more orthopedic looking shoes like these, you can easily see that style starts going out the window.
Another simple but elegant choice	However once again, if you wear these with the right style of well-fitted pants, you will still look great!
