My Turbo Lash experiment

Estee Lauder Turbo Lash

Have you tried that new vibrating mascara yet? Estee Lauder has come out with Turbo Lash and Lancome is promoting Oscillation.

I (Deborah) was dying to give one of these a try because my lashes are so thin and straight, so when I walked past the Estee counter the other day, I got sucked right in.
At first I thougth I’ll wait until they have a bonus going on, just in case this is a big gimmick, but no bonus until March, so I thought, what the heck, I need this.

Tried it this morning and here’s what happened. First of all ,for some reason, I thought the brush rototated around and around coating your lashes, but it actually just vibrates like one of those big padded vibrating recliners you see in stores like sharper image. But don’t worry, it’s not enough vibration where you’d have to worry about poking  out your eye.

Next, when I applied it, I was amazed at how instantly it went on. Boom, my mascara was done! That’s a real time saver in the morning. As for the results. I loved the way it evenly coats your lashes. No clumps at all, very smooth looking compared to the other side where I applied Estee Lauder Doublewear, my ususal mascara. My lashes looked just as thick as the doublewear, however, I was disappointed with the curling claim. This mascara did not curl my lashes at all. I never yet been able to find a mascara that really does this.

Would I buy Turbo Lash again?  Not until I try the Lancome Oscillation….. I’m still looking for a miracle.

Can we wear shimmer in our makeup after 40?

Sparkle eye

Came across an interesting blog post the other day at Raising Angls.com. The writer told the story how of how she was at the makeup counter recently and was asking the woman behind the counter , ” Is it Ok for women over 40 to have those “shimmer things” in the eyeshadow. The woman’s reply was “Why YES!, you can shimmer all you want after 40 you just dont want to sparkle!”

We were curioius what our favorite expert Christopher Hopkins (The Makeover Guy) thoughts were on the difference between shimmer and sparkle.

Here is what he said:

“I agree. A little shimmer in the right places can be very effective. (Key: right place). The brow bone, a touch in the eye lid, a soft shimmer in lip color. It’s the size of the particles, really. It’s like eggshell vs. matte vs. gloss. But it is pretty difficult to tell how much shimmer something has until you’ve worn it for a few hours and it has settled into ‘areas’ we’d rather not accentuate with shimmer or shine.”

If in doubt, save the shimmer for evening, and eliminate highly frosted or seriously shiny makeup altogether.
