How to tie a scarf ~ a fashion question!

Dear Glam Gals,

I see that scarves are so popular these days and many of my friends wear them and always look so stylish.  However, I have no idea how to tie a scarf!  Help!

Thanks, Celine W.

While we all know how to tie a turkey leg together, when it comes to tying a scarf that can be a different matter!

Deborah and I were out at the malls recently and spotted this beautiful over 40 gal!  This square scarf really added some style to a simple top and leather skirt.

Scarves can really stretch your wardrobe budget

Deborah's long scarf can be tied so many ways!

When a gal wears a scarf it just seems to add a little pizzazz to her outfit but many of us scratch our heads on just how to tie them.

Here is a great video to help give you some ideas on how to tie a scarf that is long and thin, like this one Deborah is wearing.

But what about those square-shaped scarves?

Here is a grey bandana to be worn with a workout top and white yoga pants.

The square scarves are trickier. Some are made of shiny silk or polyester.  If you have a drawer full of those, just beware they are much dressier and really not that great for summertime. Also they tend to slip and be a nuisance to wear.

However, a simple cotton bandana can be a wonderful way to add some zip to an otherwise drab casual outfit. Just tie it in a little knot and you’re off!

Here is a simple brown tank and cotton khaki jacket. JoJami just added a cotton bandana to perk things up. Bandana cost: $1.00

How to wear the belted long cardigan

A fresh approach to looking comfortable and classy!

Need a new idea for dress casually, especially if you are petite? The Glam Gals are here to prove that once again, looking good after 40 can be a reality!

One of our loyal readers, Lisa Richey is a prime example that dressing well on a regular basis is doable and can even be comfortable!

Here is how she does it:

  • Vince wool pants (not leggings) are her secret weapon! You can wear these pull on flat front pants day after day and they won’t stretch out.
  • Lisa wears only colors that look good on her. This purple sweater is gorgeous on Lisa and it brightens up her day!
  • Great stretch belt. Here, once again, is a Suzi Roher belt. At least one of these belts should be in every woman’s closet!
  • Leather flat boots that fit her leg. No gaping here… these boots are a great fit and make her look polished!
  • Handbag is the right size for her. Lisa is a 5’2 petite and her handbag does not over power her outfit!
  • Oversized sunglasses. That is the ticket to looking up to date!
  • Silver cuff. Notice that all her hardware on her purse, belt and accessories are consistent (all silver). This is a little detail that can help your outfit look harmonious!
  • A touch of animal print. This leopard scarf is one of her “go to” pieces. If you can find a long skinny scarf that you love, it will be an easy way to tie an outfit together.

How to tie a cool scarf

Another Fabulous After 40 Fashion Tip:

One great way to stretch your wardrobe budget or put more sizzle in your style  and Tweak Your Chic is  to add a scarf to your wardrobe.

Here area a few scarf buying tips:

  • Buy scarves that are long and skinny
  • Color is important, make sure to hold it up to your face. Does it compliment you? Will it go with alot of your clothes?
  • Stay clear of “shiney” fabrics. They won’t stay on as well, and can look old fashioned.
  • Most woman have their scarves stuffed away in a drawer or top shelf of a closet…get them out and try them!
