How To Have Style with Isaac Mizrahi

isaac-mizrahi-and-the-glam-gals1-317x350

Isaac and the Glam Gals

We got a a chance to meet Isaac Mizrahi, best known as the designer who revolutionized the fashion industry by teaming up with Target to launch a collection of chic, but reasonably priced clothing and accessories.

Isaac (who is pretty cute in person!) was on stage at at the MORE magazine Reinvention Convention and was the hit of the day!

He was frank, funny and full of great advice. When asked…….he said…..

Q.  How do you know when You are dressing too Old?

A.  ” The minute you no longer feel sexy”

Q.   How do you know when you are dressing too Young?

A. “When people start looking at you funny like something smells bad.”

………..Doesn’t that just sum it all up?

Isaac was at the MORE convention to promote his new book How to Have Style. He says having great style starts with inspiration and the way to do that is to collect pictures of things you love, put them up on a corkboard and suddenly a picture will emerge of who you are and how you should dress.

It’s a great idea. Kind of reminds us of what you you do when you want to decorate your home.

What other tidbits of wisdom did the Style guru dish out?

Style is 70% confidence! Have the confidence to make yourself the authority of your style.

Style starts with a passion. Then add tailoring and high heels.

Don’t buy on sale. Only a very trained eye can find a bargain. (wholesale is different)

You can check out Issac’s new web show coming soon at www.watchisaac.com

Cybill Sheppard Glam Gal

JoJami, Cybil Sheppard and Deborah

The best part about blogging is we get to meet a lot of wonderful glam gals, looking fab after 40, from all over the country and on occasion, a CELEBRITY Glam Gal gal too.

Here we are with Cybill Sheppard at the MORE magazine Reinvention convention last week where she was a guest panelist.

She looked fabulous at 58 in her Kelly green jacket and black pants…a natural beauty with a great sense of humour too.

Shopping tips from Barney’s Personal Shopper

Another gal we met at the MORE Reinvention Convention was NYC Personal Shopper, Sharyn Solemimani.

barneys-personal-shopper

Here she is looking smashing in her Dolce and Gabbana dress. Talk about looking the part!

We asked her what she thought was the #1 shopping mistake most women make and her response was:

Make sure the item fits! Fit is SO important, especially after 40. Yes, things might need alteration, here and there with a sleeve shortened or hem, but make sure the item fits well overall first before you spend the money on alterations.”

Next we couldn’t help ask her about her shoes … Q. We love your shoes and have not seem them anywhere. Did you get them at Barneys?
barneys-shoes
“Absolutely, these are Pierre Hardy. They have the nice patent leather detail on them that is so popular this fall and that matches the belt on my dress. Also, speaking of fit, I’m surprised at how many women do not buy the right size shoes. Shoes must fit correctly like clothes, not too big, not too small”

Finally we asked her: Q. What brands look fab on women over 40?

“Well, you need to buy brands that fit your particular body type. Miu Miu for example fits well on women who are short waisted. Prada is an excellent brand, since it fits several body types. You just have to try on different pieces to find the one for yours. Theory is another great brand, because they tend to design pieces that have simple lines and yet have an updated look that’s not too trendy.”

Great Advice! – And here’s the exciting part: Barney’s shopping service (which Sharon has been providing for 15 years) is FREE to Barney’s customers.

How to Look Wow at your next networking event

Deborah and I were really excited to see so many great looking women at the More Re-Invention convention. When you’re out networking, you always want to look your best. Here are some great examples of ways to dress to impress:

groomed

These gals have great hair and flawless skin. They look current and well-groomed. That chic gray dress has a matching jacket that can be thrown on as well. Love the boots!

grey

More grey.. The woman on the right (author Mary Lou Quinlan) looks sharp in a lightweight grey and taupe jacket that’s perfect for this time of year and gets her noticed.

The other gal on the left looks fashion forward in a combination of grey and copper. See how beautifully that copper color matches her striking hair. It’s always flattering to wear a color that’s in your hair.

jjdeb

This is Peggy Northop, Editor if MORE magazine. She really stood out in her this streamlined electric blue dress and cream jacket.

When she took to the podium, off came the jacket and she looked radiant in this “pop” of blue.

If you are going to be a speaker, try to wear a jacket or something that has a bright burst of color like blue, or red, yellow, or pink..anything that makes people sit up and take notice. My pop of color was this great scarf I wrapped around my neckline.

This season sleeveless dresses are very in fashion. Sleeveless is not something we would normally recommend, but the dresses we saw  at the convention (including Deborah’s) had very clean, modern strong lines and sent a powerful message. They worked! Just bring a cover-up in case it gets cool or if you want an extra punch of power.

This gal had a black jacket with her and Deborah had a peacock-blue fitted Eli Tahari jacket with her, but they didn’t need it. See how nicely this gal has accessorized her basic black dress. The beads are quality. Deborah wore a beautiful black and silver cuff with her sleeveless dress.

black-suit

This beautiful woman decided to wear her jacket. Looks fab too! Classic pumps with a sexy umph! One note- if you are going sleeveless, make sure your arms look pretty good. Can you believe this gal above is 52??

red-jacker
Finally, loved this gal’s bright red jacket. It’s a Saint John Knit. Do you see the touch of leopard at the cuffs? Apparently these cuffs are detachable but this gal chose to wear them to the MORE event because it was a statement.  We love it!
