We hope to inspire not stifle your fashion creativity here at Fabulous After 40!
We recently did a post on our feelings about ankle bracelets. While many of you agreed with us, some of of you definitely did not, and you posted some very angry comments like:
“I do think your attitudes are a bit prudish and outdated”
“Good Lord, this is the most uptight, condescending fashion advice I’ve ever heard of.”
“You need to lighten up in America because you are all talking like a bunch of women from the Victorian Era. You want to be so proper all of the time that you pass as uptight people who don’t know how to enjoy little things like wearing stuff just because they make you happy. Should learn from other countries.”
We actually enjoy hearing everyone’s opinion and appreciate you taking the time to write to us, even if you strongly disagree with our views!
Our mission is to be a resource for women over 40, since most fashion magazines out there are not geared to helping mature fashionistas with their style dilemmas!
Our opinions on dressing are just our opinions, and we are not the fashion police. The most important thing to us is that Fashion is fun, and that is it a true expression of who you really are. We provide style guidance for those who want it and we’re here to be your cheerleaders!!!
So please, join in our conversation, dress to make yourself feel fabulous, and if you don’t like our advice, that’s fine. We’re not offended.
Life is too short to be Frumpy… or to be too serious about the way you dress.
Please put your comments below… we want to hear from you!
You asked for it…you want to see what “real women” are wearing! So, you know what The Glam Gals wore last week, here are what other women wore to this super charged networking event!
This radiant beauty was just back from Italy sporting her new finds. Marianne Hovivian said that her slim fitting pants and sweater set from Max Mara were so comfortable! Accessorizing with long gold chain,s simple earrings and gold bracelet set it off! Her updated black leather studded purse is from Tosca Blue. This is a wonderful example of how to rock the tucked in low boot look!
This elegant casual outfit was inspired from a recent trip to Italy!
Three Cheers for the Red Suit Dress!
You would never know that Janice Schacter was having a bad day when she showed up in this red confection! Even though she has been struggling with her personal life while running her non-profit hearing access program, she said she felt like this outfit gave her a boost of self confidence! We agree and picked her out of the crowd to photograph her!
Doesn’t Canadian, Communication Advisor, Francine Gingras look both professional and updated? This jacket with the 3/4 length sleeves, paired with the black pencil skirt and belted is just the right mix of fashion meets corporate.

Check out The Glam Gals, 5 tips to make shopping easier!
If you are like many women after 4o you are thinking that things in life might not have turned out exactly how you planned it.
But no fear, you can still be happy, just read this weeks Blogging Boomers Carnival, our weekly dose of all topics Boomer related written by some of the top Bloggers out there!
So, if your life is not what you wanted you can at least take control how you look! After all, YOU are the one who buys your clothes!!
Here are 5 tips to think about when you go shopping so that you can turn your wardrobe into one that includes stylish clothes you love!
Get your closet cleaned out. If you have old clothes that don’t fit and are out of style, make sure they are not clogging up your closet, you will want to make room for the good stuff!
Make a list of your wish list and of what you need
Wear comfortable shoes and make up (Looking your best when you shop makes it more fun and you will feel better about how you look in the mirror!)
Have on your most updated outfit. Then when you go to buy something new, it needs to be as nice as what you already have or better! That way you set the bar higher and will not be tempted to buy something just mediocre.
Don’t feel like you have to buy something everytime you go shopping. Feel free to just window shop, try on and then go home and think about it. Too often we get home with “impulse” buys that we don’t really need or an item that doesn’t go with anything in our closet. Be super picky about what you buy!!!
What if we told you, Stop worrying about the way you look…that after 40, you should just relax and stop caring?
That’s what they’re saying at this week’s Blogging Boomers, on The Joy of Aging. We’re horrified by the tips they are giving out, especially this one, below:
1. No one cares how I look, so I don’t need to primp or go clothing shopping.
We could NOT disagree more!!! Not “caring” is not an excuse to walk out the door looking sloppy.
As many of you know, The Glam Gals’ favorite saying is, “Life is too short to be frumpy”…
