Travel in cozy, comfortable style!

I (JoJami) am off again traveling and this time, the weather is cold and dreary. Last time I was at the airport, I found a stylish gal, that ended up being from my home town in Wilmington, Delaware of all things!  We have since had lunch together and I have been to see her daughter perform the lead in a local production of Carmen!

Since that was such a great experience, I wasn’t shy about stopping this gorgeous women and her husband. The only thing was that she could not speak a word of English!!!  However, with a little bit of sign language and giving her my business card, I convinced her to let me snap away! The bonus this time, was as the end of our mini “photo shoot,”  she was all smiles and  grabbed me and gave me a nice, European double kiss on both cheeks!  How sweet was that!!!

Here is our latest “on the street” inspiration from Northern Spain, looking Age-mazing™!

Check out how she got this look:

  • Let the focal point be the coat (investment piece)
  • Kept it simple, monochromatic, all one color for the top and pant
  • scarf (of course!)
  • Boots are nice fitting, hug her legs and come up right to the knee
  • Purse  over-sized and updated with handles and hardware instead of a shoulder strap.
This chic European is from Spain and is looking chic and comfortable~

This bag had the right rugged but elegant feel to pull this outfit together!

These boots were made of the coolest animal skin print! They were sort of a green color!

She looks terrific! And so lucky that in Spain the boots don’t have to come off at the airport.

  2. Hi Robin,
LOL..Oh, but these had zippers, no worries!

She looks fantastic; I love everything she is wearing! I didn’t think she was an American – we don’t dress well when traveling. I wrote a blog post on the subject while traveling in August. To read it go to: http://lawhiteoncasualfriday.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html.

  4. This photo is the epitome of fine wine. I love this look! It could even work with the under 30 crowd, but it wouldn’t have the same polished effect. That tasteful glow of your model comes with the right seasoning. Great job!

  5. Hi Gayle,
We are so glad you agree! We know that women over 40 want to be comfortable, but so many think that means jeans and a sweatshirt! This look is super comfy and totally Glam! One would just need to really be picky to find the right pieces…but that would be so much fun!

I love the mix of browns here – great substitute for black and often so much warmer as we age and lose some of our pigments. I’m not convinced that leggings work as pants for any woman over 30, but I’m willing to hear your point of view on that. I would have liked this look better if her top was more like a tunic. Hmmm.

  7. Gail says:

I love the coat and bag but think the boots are a little too dramatic. I think one “statement” piece per outfit is better (in this case the coat) and would prefer a solid color boot. And am I the only person who doesn’t care for scarves? I think they’re fussy and so common these days that they look faddish. Sorry!

  8. Hi Gail,
Interesting comments… we are glad that you have your own idea of what you would like to see! That is why we love to have these discussions!!
Personally, I (JoJami) absolutely LOVE scarves and they are my passion..however, they are not for everyone…so 3 cheers for you to stand up and “just say NO” to scarves!! But, I don’t think they are faddish, I think they can give you flair, if you want it!

  9. Hi Rabbi,
Right on.. the mixing of the browns area nice here!!! We love the leggings and she can sure pull them off, with that tiny body and thin legs of hers!!! Why wear a tunic if you still have a great figure? Also, I believe these are more stretch pants than just a legging so that is a plus. They give you more coverage.
Great to bat around this topic…. we want to hear more views!!!

Sorry but I just don’t love this look. It says “trying to hard” to me – and I don’t like brown on brown on brown. Boring. The furry cuffs don’t work for me either – and they would attract a lot of stuff I’d rather not think about while in a very public airport. Overall I just can’t agree with the people who say they like this look.

  11. Hi Kelly,
We are glad to here your thoughts on this. You are right, this is not for everyone and you have to wear what you feel comfortable in. I (JoJami) still LOVE it, however would love to hear what your idea of a great comfortable look would be. It is always fun to get inspiration from all types of styles, looks, body types, ect!
