What does hip and 40 look like?

Hi Fabulous ladies! JoJami here in absolutely gorgeous, Asheville, NC!

Boy oh boy, was I ever surprised when I hit downtown Asheville to check out the shopping.  Talk about artsy, funky and vibrant!  Yes siree, did I have a blast just window shopping until I dragged my husband into this amazing boutique called Minx.

This table of shoes caught my eye…and this gal was dressed so cute! Love her flat loafers, comfortable and chic!

At first I thought that all the clothes were vintage but then I saw this display of new shoes and fell in love with these little black booties.

These black booties by Gidigio have the perfect size heel and the ruffle gives it a touch of softness!

Slipped those puppies on and it was love at first step… had to have them!

Now I want you to notice how adorable the sales gal is!  Of course she is NOT 40 but I thought it was worth mentioning that her outfit would be age appropriate for any over 40 gal.

Moreover, many of  you all have been asking…”What do I wear with straight legged jeans.?”  Check out her flat loafers. This is as new trend for fall that we just adore!!  Paired with a t-shirt and cropped short jacket it looks casual yet pulled together!

Then as my luck would have it, in walked the owner, Rebeccah Mark (who just turned 40, welcome to the club!)

Owner, Rebeccah Mark who says her taste was influenced by her background in the music industry.  Her long hair and bangs work perfectly with her vintage, rocker style!

JJ: Rebeccah, your store has a certain funky “vibe” to it, what is your inspiration?

Rebeccah: Well, I used to be in a band and saw that there was a need for clothes that were more artistic.  So I put my music career on hold and opened my shop.  I have always loved to dress more creatively and  been drawn to vintage, British fashion and anything mod.

JJ: At first glance the clothes here look vintage…but I was surprised when I saw they were actually all new.

Rebeccah: Yes, I love the styles from the 30′s and 40′s.  I find that they are the most flattering, so when I see something that reminds me of that era I bring it into the store.

JJ: Do you think your style is going to change now that you are 40?

Rebeccah: Lol!  Yes, I do and I think I am going to have to think more about how I dress.  It’s going to be an interesting time of transition for me!

A short ankle boot is the perfect way to dress up a pair of black pants. A little hint of green sock, shows off her personality!

JJ: Oh, I see you have on some black short booties, ha, I just bought the ones on your cute little display table!

Rebeccah: Short booties are going to be big for fall…you will enjoy yours!  We can’t keep them in stock, they have flown off the shelf!

JJ: Well I think your store is terrific and that you are a wonderful role model of what “hip and 40″ looks like!

  1. Yay for being 40! The odd thing is how I hardly noticed it. I really think it IS all in the mind. I know 30 year olds who are OLD, and 60 year olds who are eternally young free spirits.

One thing I *have* learned though, is to not tell a hairdresser your age. I made that mistake a few months back. And NEVER say you’re looking for something a bit more “mature”. The result? Instant “granny-do”! I ended up with the “short soft curl” look – everything but the blue rinse. Ugh!

    *shudders*

Now I’m back to my younger, previous look, and I won’t be visiting that hairdresser again!

Your girl in the photo looks terrific. Go her!

  2. What a fun store! And what a coincidence! We live part of the year in Asheville and we left on the 12th to drive down to Florida for a month or so. I would love to meet you some time! Hopefully you’ll come back to Asheville again! There’s so much to do there! ♥ I’d love to go shopping with you! ♥

  3. Hey! You are right on about the boutique Minx, I visit relatives a few times a year and really love the mix of clothing stores and incredible restaurants serving local food. PS: I am nearing the end of my forties (sob!) but still find Minx a great store to shop in…They have a carefully curated sensibility that is actually affordable, and it’s hip without being youthful-only styling…so I’m hip even if I’m no longer a minx!

    • HI June,
Yes, I agree! I wish I had more time to shop but alas my time was short there. We ate at the vegetarian restaurant down the street and it was fab!!! However, all the places looked super yummy that we walked by! What a neat place! My father lives in Hickory, NC, so not too far away. I’m planning on coming back for a visit for sure, sometime soon!

I cannot believe you were in Asheville, just 1 hr north of me. In fact, I was just there the day after Labor Day,celebrating my friend’s birthday! That is a very diverse city.

    Sorry I missed you.
