Holiday Party Dresses For Women Over 40 ~ What I Wore

‘Tis the season for sparkle and shine! This week’s my readers are wearing their best holiday dresses over 40.

Magnificent Metallics

Donna's Christmas tree is no match for the sparkle that radiates from her.

Donna’s Christmas tree is no match for the sparkle that radiates from her – Christmas party dresses for women

Donna sparkles in her gold metallic and black velvet dress that she wore when she attended an event hosted by the Volunteers of America, which was held at The Plaza in NYC.

Although she lives in New Jersey, Donna loves NYC at holiday time. “What a great night! There is nothing like being in the city during Christmas Time; it is simply magical!  However, having the opportunity to not only celebrate this fantastic organization, but also meet and greet some very giving, caring and honorable members puts everything in the right perspective for this truly blessed season.”

This is a picture of Donna taken at home just before leaving, wearing a black velvet metallic dress.

Donna, you look dazzling! A metallic silver party dresses for women over 40 can be difficult to pull off. Too much metallic can look gaudy. The soft black velvet of Donna’s dress helps to break up the metallic to create a less harsh look than solid metallic.

Keep Accessories Simple with Metallics

Party dresses for older women

Julia has chosen the perfect accessories to complement her silver dress.

Julia, 49, wore this beautiful metallic silver dress to a fundraiser in Bel Air, California. Julia’s dress is impeccable, as far as party dresses for women go. It has great detail and the cut and length are suitable for over 40, 50, 60 and beyond.

Julia traveled from Washington, DC to attend the fundraiser. It certainly looks as though her dress stood up to her cross country flight. Julia purchased both the dress and shoes at Talbots.

Julia has accessorized her silver dress perfectly with a dark red clutch and a light shawl with heels to match. If you wear a metallic dress, it’s best not to accessorize with metallics.  Choose a brighter, contrasting color for the accessories and keep the color the same for all accessories.

Two Stunning Dresses, Two Separate Occasions

Maha chose 2 different dresses in different styles and fabrics but both look work beautifully on her.

Maha, 50, chose two uniquely different dresses for two separate holiday parties this season.

They both look fab. Both really fit and flatter her body so well. I can’t decide which one I like best.  Maha, You look spectacular in both!

Mary accessorizes denim with a gold scarf

Metallics aren’t just for fancy party dresses for women. Metallics can be woven into a casual outfit just as effectively as a formal outfit. Here, Mary, from Durango, CO, adds a gold scarf to casual denim and a vest.  Mary is excited about her “column of color underneath and gold on top!” The combination of the gold scarf, neutral vest, and belt help to break up the navy in Mary’s top and jeans. Way to accessorize, Mary!

Leather Trends

Keep it casual and on trend with a leather jacket and boots

Santa Torres, 47, from Houston, TX is rocking two of our favorite seasonal trends, the boot, and the leather jacket. Don’t be afraid to mix leather colors as long as you have a style element that pulls the colors together. The asymmetrical cut of the leather jacket adds a feminine touch and keeps the jacket from looking too much like a biker jacket. We love your Fabulous After 40 style, Santa!

Dress Up a Casual Top

Pink party dresses for women

Sonya is pretty in pink

There are plenty of occasions that require in-between dressing. For those times when you don’t want to wear a dress nor do you want to wear yoga pants, try pairing a casual top with dark washed jeans. Here Sonya pairs a pretty pink, ruffle blouse with dark washed jeans. When worn together, the jeans and top create a look that is neither too dressy nor too casual. We love this shade of pink on you, Sonya. It’s such a soft and pretty look.

We would love to meet more of you FAB ladies. Don’t be shy!

  1. LOVE Donna’s dress! The black panels are super flattering.

I am absolutely loving the photos from your “real life” followers! It shows women in real settings putting together their own outfits, and it’s very helpful to hear your comments on why a certain combination works. I applaud those of us over 40 (and 50!) who are not afraid to wear trendy things in a stylish but not juvenile way. I’d love to hear more constructive criticism too, such as what you might add or switch out for accessories, or how to layer a casual outfit, for those of us that post pictures. Thank you for your inspiration and motivation to stay stylin’ !
