Holiday Showstoppers ~ What I Wore

‘Tis the season for sparkle and shine! This week’s my readers glisten in metallic party dresses.

Donna's metallic party dresses

Donna’s Christmas tree is no match for the sparkle that radiates from her – Christmas party dresses for women

Black and Gold

Donna sparkles in a gold metallic and black velvet dress that she wore to an event hosted by the Volunteers of America at The Plaza in NYC.  Although she lives in New Jersey, Donna loves NYC at holiday time.

“What a great night! There is nothing like being in the city during Christmas Time; it is simply magical! However, having the opportunity to not only celebrate this fantastic organization, but also meet and greet some very giving, caring and honorable members puts everything in the right perspective for this truly blessed season.”

This is a picture of Donna taken at home just before leaving. Donna, you look dazzling!

Metallic dresses are very on trend  at the moment but can be difficult to pull off. Too much metallic can look gaudy. The soft black velvet of Donna’s dress helps to break up the metallic to create a less harsh look than solid metallic.

Party dresses for older women

Julia has chosen the perfect accessories to complement her silver dress.

Fabulous for a Fundraiser

Julia, 49, from Washinton D.C., wore this beautiful metallic silver dress to a fundraiser in Bel Air, California. The sheath style is easy to wear and the length is perfect for a woman 40, 50, 60 and beyond.

Julia purchased both the dress and shoes at Talbots. She accessorized her silver dress perfectly with a dark red clutch and a light shawl with heels to match. A tip: If you wear a metallic dress, it’s best not to accessorize with metallics. Choose a brighter, contrasting color for the accessories and keep the color the same for all accessories.

Metallic party dresses

Maha chose 2 different dresses in different styles and fabrics but both look work beautifully on her.

Two Stunning Dresses, Two Separate Occasions

Maha, 50, chose two uniquely different dresses for two separate holiday parties this season. They both look fab. Both really fit and flatter her body so well. I can’t decide which one I like best.  Maha, You look spectacular in both!

Shining in Silver

Cindy wore this great silver dress over the holidays. She wondered about the the best shoes for a formal dress and ended up with these that were very comfy, plus a small black clutch. Cindy, looked beautiful, like a true Glam Gal. What a great photo to treasure!

Metallic copper dress

Copper is hard to find but a gorgeous shade.

Fabulous After 40 in Copper

Dianna shines in this copper, metallic shift dress that she bought at Nordstrom and wore to a church charity event with her husband. She has beautiful warm undertones which make this color a perfect complement to her skin, hair and eyes.

Dianna says when it came time to accessorize she wanted to let the dress take center stage. “I kept the jewelry very simple. I know my shoes are a bit “matchy, matchy” but I had them, and I didn’t want to spend more money on the outfit.  I figured the dress was the fodata:text/mce-internal,cal point anyway.”

Lovely, Dianna. Great choice for a special occasion!

Gold Standard

Cindy also sent me a lovely photo of herself in a metallic that she wore to a gala. I think she could give the Oscar’s statue a run for its money!

The subtle sheen of this metallic dress strikes a great balance between glamour and staying on trend. I think you look statuesque, Cindy!

  1. LOVE Donna’s dress! The black panels are super flattering.

I am absolutely loving the photos from your “real life” followers! It shows women in real settings putting together their own outfits, and it’s very helpful to hear your comments on why a certain combination works. I applaud those of us over 40 (and 50!) who are not afraid to wear trendy things in a stylish but not juvenile way. I’d love to hear more constructive criticism too, such as what you might add or switch out for accessories, or how to layer a casual outfit, for those of us that post pictures. Thank you for your inspiration and motivation to stay stylin’ !
