I will be attending an afternoon bridal shower at someone’s home, and I need some ideas for what to wear. Please help. I am overweight, an apple shape with excess weight in the tummy. I prefer pants and flowy tops. Can you show me some examples of what would look nice? I’m clueless about looking stylish. Thanks! JMC
Style is all about finding what looks good on your body type and knowing what type of look you want to project. Are you preppy? elegant? fun? trendy? or chic? Here are a couple of nice options that fit what you are looking for.
Start with finding the style that flatters your figure. A long top that softly follows your curves is flattering. No belt. Dark pants shrink your bottom half, and a gentle flare will balance you out. A pair of pumps adds a touch of height to make you look taller and leaner.
You can also do a top with a “V” neck to make you look streamlined. This scarf top is pretty. It should gently flow over your body, but too much loose fabric will only make you look top heavy. Get the right size. For tummy control, I highly recommend some shapewear. If you have never worn shapewear, I promise it will be your new best friend. it really smooths things out.
Black can be chic and figure flattering for plus size gals, but this is a wedding shower, so keep your outfit looking upbeat by adding a colorful top with some white or cream in it. Light or feminine colored accessories also help lift the look. If you do change your mind and want to wear a dress, this is cute one.
Here’s a few more plus size dresses that would be lovely at a shower.
