Women Over 40 Set the Red Carpet on Fire at the 2014 Oscars

Last night’s Academy Awards capped off the Hollywood award season. It seems everyone saved their best for last. The red carpet was simmering with gorgeous dresses, jewels, and hairstyles. And no where was Hollywood glitz and glamour more apparent than among the ladies over 40.

Nominated for Best Actress for her role in Gravity, 49-year old Sandra Bullock didn’t take home the award, but she’s still a winner in our book. She’s a stunner in an Alexander McQueen midnight blue, strapless dress accented by diamond and platinum cluster earrings. Her smoky eyes add a dramatic flair. After taking a few fashion risks this award season, Sandra nails this look.

Bette Midler shows off her sexy curves in a fiery red lace dress from Reem Acra. The delicately embroidered dress hugs Bette’s curves in all the right places and the square neckline flatters her shapely shoulders.

The legendary Sally Field never disappoints. Just when you think she couldn’t get any better than last year’s red dress, she tops it with a gorgeous, black sequined dress. The short-sleeved, full-skirted dress is perfection on her. This dark and elegant look doesn’t suit everyone, but Sally wears it beautifully.

The Best Actress award went to Cate Blanchett for her role in Blue Jasmine. The 44-year old owned the red carpet last night in an Armani Privé dress that was nothing short of spectacular. Cate’s princess-like dress was adorned with sequins and gold Swarovski crystals. Cate chose to accessorize with Chopard opal drop earrings. Her Oscar made for the perfect accessory as well! 1. Sandra, Bette and Kate were my favorite. I missed Sally. Bette has always been a favorite of mine. Sandra looks exceptionally beautiful, but who wouldn’t if you made 70 million for one movie.

    • Hi Shirley,
I thought Bette looked fantastic! I’ve been following what Sandra wears as she gets closer to 50 and I like that she is keeping things classy. Nothing worse than an older star, or any woman, trying to compete with 20 somethings out of desperation and dressing in clothes that are too skimpy. Cheers! Deborah

  2. Bette Midler is my absolute favorite here. Although she has long passed her 40’s her dress radiates the youngest and the most joie de vivre air. She certainly knows how to use her assets!

  3. Morning
Hard to choose! I like Sandra Bullock’s very hollywood glam look, with the Victoria Lake hair ( my fav), but I think many of the dresses were lovely, bold and just not the basic black. Love the detailing on Cate Blanchette’s very feminine dress, might have added some color there, even if it was earrings or a bracelet, and the fitted red lace dress is also a fav, as I love red and lace, so hard to choose!

  4. Pink’s red dress when she sang the Wizard of Oz “theme song” was fabulous! I liked Ellen DeGeneres ensembles, except for the Glenda the good witch dress. She was classy as well.
Everyone looked sharp. It’s so nice to see an award show that is glitzy, colorful, and fun.
