Why a Blue Velvet Cocktail Dress May Be a Better Choice Than Black

You know it’s holiday party season when all the velvet cocktail dresses start appearing in stores. Only this year, instead of just the classic red, green, and black, I’m also seeing a lot of Blue velvet.

Blue velvet cocktail dress l Deborah Boland l Fabulous After 40I just picked up this gorgeous blue velvet sheath for a holiday get together. Isn’t the color stunning? Blue is so much warmer than black, but it looks just as chic. I’d call this color regal!

Unfortunately, this lovely dress sold out very quickly, but you get the idea. Blue velvet is rich, luxurious, and looks very festive this time of year. Here are a few other blue velvet dresses with a similar shape.

gold Kate Spade sparkle bag

A little gold sparkle goes really well with this gorgeous blue velvet. I bought this adorable Burgess Court Glitter Leather Kate Spade clutch to go with the dress.

Kendra Scott Drop earrings

If you are looking for a pair of sparkly earrings to go with a blue velvet dress, these dainty Danielle Open Frame Crystal Statement earrings are from Kendra Scott. They’re my new favorite.
