My Spring Fashion Trends contest, which called for readers to style has shown us that there is a lot of talent out there.
In the last couple of days, we’ve looked at some really creative outfits styled by Winners 8 & 7. If you didn’t see these chic ensembles, you must take a look!
Todays’s winners showcase the best of spring 2013 colors: bright hues, citrus shades, and muted neutrals. Here we go! I’m thrilled to present winners #6 and #5.
Winner #6 Orange Love by Annette “Lady of Style.”
Oh my gosh, Annette, Anette, Annette! You are scooping up the prizes. This creation is Annette’s third win so far ( see 8 &7 – her other winning entries). You have great taste, and our ladies are rewarding you for it. This is one fun outfit!
I talk about color a lot on this blog. Why? Because it is youthful. Too many times we fall into a black rut. We call it ABD – Abundant Black Disorder -you know, that little problem many of us have dressing over 40? We buy way too much black. It tends to drag you down if you wear it head to toe or always up by your face. Instead, you need to embrace some color to look modern and alive. That is what Annette has done here.
Don’t you love this color combo? It’s a nude or linen shade, accentuated by a pop of Orange. Orange or Nectarine as it is called this year is one of the colors picked by Pantone ( the world predictor in color) as the top hue for Spring 2013. What I like about it, besides the fact that it makes me feel very happy, is that orange, worn paired with nude, is very wearable.
Some of you might shy away from such a bright shade, but worn with this calming neutral; it is toned down…..Still, there is some exciting energy going on.
That’s an important trick to remember as there are so many bright colors around this spring. If you like a bright, but you worry it is just too much for you, then tone it down with a neutral like white, cream, black, gray, brown, navy, etc.
I could go on in detail about this outfit, but you can see for yourself all the lovely elements that went into it.
I might just say I particularly like the top with the paisley type print. I’m not normally one for paisley but it is being presented this spring in a very modern way-paisley is more graphic now, therefore more modern and the bright color they are using make it youthful- not your grandma’s paisley!!
I also love the peplum style of the top. It’s so cute and feminine and creates a waist which is important as we age. If you want to know what I mean, you can check out my post on winners 8 &7 where I talk more about this.
Last note: The bag- It’s high gloss, it’s fun! Annette could have had a really serious looking stiff beige purse in there, and it would have dragged down the whole look. This look says spring to me and makes me want to get out there and shop. Thanks, Annette for an inspiring entry!
Winner #5 Naturally Spring by Barbara Gillespie
Whoa, we’ve got a funky vibe going on here. Barbara has created a cool, casual outfit that many of you could relate to. In our busy lives, there are so many instances when we want to look and feel relaxed but we don’t want to wear jeans, so what do you wear?
How about a tunic and some skinny pants? Tunics are great. They’re comfy and they hide any baggage around the middle. They look really good worn with a skinny pant like this because wide over skinny is a very flattering proportion. This tunic has a lovely exotic appeal. It kind of looks like she picked it up in Morocco or India and it gives off a carefree world traveler vibe.
Quite rightly Barbara has paired her tunic and pants with accessories that also have an ethnic feel. There’s lots of texture and pattern and animal print.
Something like a tiny chain gold necklace with a little diamond dotting the end of it would not have worked at all with this outfit. See our post on how to wear jewelry here to learn more about what I mean. You need accessories as rustic and interesting as the rest of the outfit to make it work.
The natural sandals work well with this look. I can really see this as a great summer outfit for shopping, traveling, going to an outdoor patio for lunch, just about anything. It’s very relaxed, friendly but definitely interesting. If this outfit appeals to you, you definitely have a bit of a free spirit in you…globetrotter! Well done Barbara.
