Plus Size? – 3 Ways to Work Your Curves This Fall

Many of you who are plus size have been asking for some Autumn fashion looks. So, here’s a rundown of three of the top fall trends, and how to style them to flatter your curves.

Dramatic Dark Florals

Florals for fall are more popular than ever, and when they are against a dark background like black or navy, they make a bold fashion statement. There are two ways to style a floral top like this.  You can pick a color from the florals such as red or dark green and find a pair of pants in that color to coordinate your look. It’ s a colorful option.

Or, you can match the dark background of the top with a pair of pants in the same color.  So for example, in this case, wear this black-based floral top with black jeans for an ultra slimming look. Keep your footwear the same dark color to create one continuous line that draws the eye up and down and makes you look taller and leaner. Then accent with a bag that is a pop of color from the florals.

Red ruched wrap dress with nude accessories

Ravishing Red Ruching

Red is running wild this fall, especially this bright, warm orangey-red that is so popular this fall. An all-red dress signifies confidence and a little excitement! And this gorgeous wrap style is feminine and figure-flattering- lifting and separating the bust, so it is up away from the tummy. It is also flattering because it nips in at the waist with ruching.

Ruching is another popular trend we are seeing this fall. The folded effect helps camouflage soft spots. In this case, it hides the tummy.

As for accessories, notice how the texture on the earrings mirror the ruching at the waist, and the bracelet provides texture too. This repetition is an excellent way to emphasize that lovely ruching detailing.  Nude accessories let the red remain the all-powerful focus.

Plaid shirt with dark wsh jeans and suede booties | Plus size Fall Oufit

Peppy Plaids

Plaids are casual and comfy, especially when they’re your favorite flannel shirt. But don’t settle for a plaid shirt in a boring, dull shade. This red, white and blue plaid shirt is sporty and perky and looks great with a pair of dark wash jeans to give it polish. Suede booties go perfectly with the country feel, and this cute blue crossbody bag with the sassy tassel adds a ton of style.

  1. I enjoy your blog very much. I am 71, a recent widow, living on a fixed income. I do like to stay current and stylish , however, most of the things you show are beyond my budget. I have found that if I shop carefully I can use your blog for inspiration and I can follow your suggestions within my budget. Thanks for the ideas.

  2. Purchased my first pair of booties & leggings. Still a little anxious about wearing because I haven’t been able to find tops that are true tunic length on me, I’m 5’9″ and most barely fall just below my hips. I found your blog while searching for some options online. Thanks for providing fashionable options for those of us who wear plus sizes. It seems most plus sizes are either frumpy looking or made for the twentysomething crowd.

  3. I’ve bought a gray suede jacket that is cropped, so it works well since I’m short-waisted and big-busted. I’ve also purchased some suede pumps in green that I’m loving as a pop of color for a plain-colored outfit. Also, loving the mustard colored canvas jacket that goes so well with autumn colors, especially with black or navy blue.

  4. I purchased a brown cross-body bag to wear while I shopped and strolled around in Vegas, it was such a great investment. I could carry all my essentials like credit cards, cell phone, cash, passport and lip balm, and be hands free to move around in the heat. It was light and because of the wide strap, very comfortable to wear.
