Feel Pumped Up for Your Downward Dog
Yoga has so many things going for it when it comes to over-40 gals. It’s a low-impact way to tone, improve flexibility and find a little inner serenity. Match the way it makes you feel on the inside with what you wear on the outside. Calming colors like tranquil blues and greens are perfect.
Hit the Road in Style
You may always feel great after a run when the endorphins are running high but getting yourself motivated to go in the first place, especially on a cold, drab day, can take a little doing. I find it helps if I wear a workout top that is an invigorating color in a tone that makes my complexion come alive. It’s kind of like my workout version of fake-it-till-you-make it.
I’m a Spring so I look for warm, bright and sunny colors. This is just one of the many ways to put color to work for you. Don’t Go To the Gym Looking Frumpy
I know you’re just going there to sweat and workout but if you show up at the gym in old shorts and a ratty t-shirt you will feel frumpy – especially when you look around and see everyone else who got the memo that when you look good you feel good and when you feel good you’re more motivated to work out.
You don’t have to have an extensive gym wardrobe but treat yourself to a decent tote bag for carrying your gear and a cute top you can pull on at the end of your workout. A pretty scarf to keep you warm as you start to cool down post-workout is another stylish and practical idea.
Wear What Flatters You
Whether you’re going to work, going to the gym or going to meet a friend for coffee, don’t wear something just because it’s trendy – always think about what fits and flatters your body. Case in point: yoga pants. Skin-tight workout leggings may be in, but if you’re one of the many women who have a pear-shaped body, you’ll look and feel better in a boot-cut.
