In today’s installment of my 2 Ways/7 Days series, I’m styling this faux-fur vest. A lot of women don’t even consider a faux-fur vest because they seem a little too far ‘out there’.
Ironically, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. They’re a versatile option and an easy way to make a plain outfit a little more stylish and fun. But don’t stop there: depending on the vest and what you wear it with, a faux-fur vest can also be one of the quickest and classiest ways to achieve an edgy, street-chic look that’s appropriate at any age. They are warm, cozy and as far as I’m concerned, one of your best fall accessories.
Here are just a couple of ideas on how to style a faux-fur vest.
When it comes to selecting a faux-fur vest, the sky is truly the limit. Choose something you like gorgeous, cuddly faux fur vest, in a color that complements the items in your wardrobe, and you’re in business. Because it has a lighter outfit ‘footprint’ than say, a sweater, or blouse or blazer, it doesn’t overwhelm. Here I’ve chosen this pretty burgundy colored shawl-collar vest.
Faux Fur Vest – Dressy Look
Jeans and leggings are what usually come to mind when you think about what pairs well with a faux-fur vest, but I really love them when they’re thrown into the mix in a more unexpected way like what I’ve done here with this swingy fit and flare dress.
While this dress is lovely on its own, adding the vest gives it a big dose of personality, taking it from ‘Okay’ to ‘Wow!’. In other words, you’ll get noticed in a good way. (By the way, adding a faux-fur vest like this to a pencil skirt and blouse will also have the same effect.) Black boots, booties or pumps would be great with this outfit, but I’ve chosen these beige ankle boots to once again, give the overall outfit a little more interest.
Faux Fur Vest – Casual Look
Throw a faux-fur vest on top to dress up almost any casual outfit like I’ve done here. This particular outfit is a study in opposites, which is in and of itself a great styling trick. See how I’ve mixed edgy (leather leggings, faux-fur vest) and softer (romantic blouse, soft texture of the vest) elements? I’ve used leather leggings, but non-leather leggings, skinny Ponte pants or skinny jeans would all give you a similar effect.
Add a tonal shoe like these black flats, booties or boots. And don’t forget to accessorize! I’ve chosen this gorgeous wine-colored satchel that goes beautifully with the vest.
