The Fierce 50 Campaign – Bold Style!

It’s a special day in the blogging world. Today I’m helping launch the first annual Fierce 50 Campaign bringing together 50 female bloggers over the age of 50 in a celebration of midlife on the 50th day of the year!


I’m honored to introduce you to fashion blogger and friend Maria Sadler. Maria is a style expert and the creative force behind the popular UK blog, Looking Stylish.

I first met Maria last year at the annual RewardStyle conference, and we instantly connected. Her beautiful smile and warm personality drew me in, and I wanted to know more about this stylish Brit and her fabulous blog.

Maria started blogging back in 2011 as a hobby, alongside running a business providing internet marketing to small businesses. She had trained as a stylist when her children were small and owned two boutiques selling clothing and accessories. Blogging soon became far more interesting than her other business, and it began to take up more of her time. One of the services she missed that had been really popular in her shops was creating capsule wardrobes for clients.


In August 2014, Maria decided to combine creating capsule wardrobes with her online world and offer an online styling service. Since then, she hasn’t looked back. The business took off, and she added an online color service, too. Now, almost three years later, Maria has clients who use her monthly subscription service, the one-off wardrobe service, a fabulous Style Club, and a very active Facebook group. She absolutely loves what she does, and this year will run events, starting in March with a Style day for 30 women.

Maria describes her personal style as a contemporary classic and more relaxed than when she worked in the corporate world. She loves beautiful and luxurious fabrics and elegant pieces that will become wardrobe heroes rather than fast fashion.  If she could dress full-time in Armani or Ralph Lauren, she would be a happy girl. She also loves color and is a bit of a scarf-a-holic too! She buys most regularly from Eileen Fisher, LK Bennett, Matches Fashion for DVF and Maxmara, and a UK brand called ME+EM.

Maria’s biggest challenge being 50+ is her changing role in life as her two daughters leave home and become more independent. Her first role for the last 20 years has been as a mother, and now she’s finding she has more time to herself and she’s not needed in the way she was. Maria says it’s exciting, in that she has new opportunities, but scary too! And a day doesn’t go by when she doesn’t miss her eldest daughter Sophie at University, and she will be the same when her younger one, Lucy,  goes off to school in the Autumn.  Maria hopes to travel more with her husband Steve of 23 years and continue to expand her business with her new freedom.


What’s different since turning 50?  Maria says she has the confidence now that she never had 20 years ago, and the experience of running her own business has made her more fearless. The little things don’t matter so much. In her 20’s and 30’s in the corporate world, everything was a competition. She says she certainly wouldn’t want to go back to that world now.

The more she works with other women, the more she enjoys what she does.  “At 50, every woman has a story to share, and I find that I appreciate that more and want to hear those stories – there is always something new to learn. Sometimes those stories bring home the fact that life is short and you have to make the most of it, so I try to remind myself of that regularly and appreciate how lucky I am to be doing something I love so much.”

Maria feels the Fierce 50 campaign is brilliant because the 50+ age group gets overlooked. Many of her clients are in the same age group as her, but when they shop, they are confronted with advertising targeted 20-year-olds, and they can’t relate to that. They want to see women their own age looking fabulous, so they know they can achieve the look too.
