I am very impressed with your website. So lovely to get good advice about disguising a big belly. I am 72 and struggle for ideas to cover my middle. It makes me shun social occasions as I feel very aware of my shape.
I have tried all different types of shapewear ( High waist , slips, and even tanks) and they ALWAYS either roll up or roll down depending if it’s a top or bottom, is a bodysuit my only other option? Or am I buying the wrong size? Pantyhose even roll and feel like I have a rubber band around my waist!
I don’t know how you guys do it – wear shapewear I mean. I have a hard time dealing with non-cotton bras, let alone anything that is going to fit tight on my stomach. I live where the summers are 100 plus for months so that is a big part of it – but I also just can’t stand the plastic feel of shapewear. The 2% stretch in jeans is my limit.
I guess it will keep me motivated to stay in tip top shape!
Hi Kelly,
I can understand your aversion if you live where the temp is that hot!! Yikes, one more layer is probably not something you want to add on when your sweating bullets! Yes, being in good shape is helpful, but unfortunately even those that are thin, sometimes start seeing lumps and bumps when we want to wear something clingy. Shapewear really can smooth things out beautifully for those times that we need it, like wearing a jersey dress or anything tight and clingy.
I’m 53 and while with exercise and a vegetarian diet, I’ve kept my weight the same since high school, unfortunately the muscle tone inevitably naturally changes with age. Although my stomach is flat, alas, my midsection just isn’t firm anymore. Just want to share something that is amazing and I wear daily – an item that I’ve found to be lighter and much more comfortable than Spanx. I love the bodysuit from ” Lipo In A Box”, which has built-in soft underwire cups and a snap crotch. The material is superlight and I can wear it on even the hottest summer day. I have several in black and nude. I purchase mine online from Amazon.
Hi Ann,
OOOhh.. I have not heard of Lipo in a Box, shapewear so will look it up! Thanks for sharing!!! I like shapewear and have found that there are so many choices out there it can be confusing on which one to buy. I like the idea that it is super light and with spring and summer coming up this could be a great find!
After going through two terminal illnesses and I somehow surviving into my fifties, I don’t care anymore. I eat well, I exercize, but life is too short to worry if I have a lump, bump or bulge who really cares? Who do I need to impress with my body? Everytime I compare it to someone else, it is is an act of violence to myself. I deserve better than lamenting what nature does at a certain age. My body is mine and I am going to celebrate it!
Hi River, I’m happy to hear that you are healthy and strong again! Thanks for writing in and showing your confidence and joy for life! I applaud you for your courage and strength.

Hiding the ole’ tummy has always been a problem for me. I learned long ago that tucking was not a good option.
Hi Memaw,
You sure have that right!! Also I think all the shapewear we can wear under our clothes to smooth things out really helps!
