Trying to find tops to cover the upper part of the arms has been like trying to find a needle in a haystack in the last few years. Sleeveless or very short-sleeved tops have dominated the market leaving me, for one, really frustrated.
But the great news is that is finally changing thanks to a company I wrote about a few months ago called Covered Perfectly. They make really comfy, cute tops for women over 40 that have sleeves. No more worrying about the jiggly bits showing or walking around feeling freezing cold. These tops solve those problems.
Since that post I’ve had many questions from you about what to wear with long-sleeved tops, particularly 3/4 length tops, to look casual and classy. So, I thought I’d give you a couple of ideas.
How do you like this outfit? It’s pretty luxurious looking, don’t you think? Animal prints have become so popular over the last few years that they’re pretty much a staple in a modern wardrobe. I love a good animal print especially a leopard print because they’re a bit playful and sexy too.
This top proves that you don’t have to wear something cut down to your navel to look sexy. Just throw on cute leopard top like this and you’ll instantly look alluring.
If you want to camouflage any lumps or bumps a longer top that follows your curves but isn’t tight is an excellent choice. Worn over the pencil skirt it elongates your torso making you look taller and slimmer.
Many gals would automatically pair a top like this with a black skirt or pants, and yes you could do that no problem! But what if you wanted something a bit spicier? Bright red goes with leopard but it can sometimes come across as loud and aggressive. This oxblood pencil skirt worn with the leopard top is much more elegant and chic.
One tip about pencil skirts- Make sure if you are heavier on the bottom (i.e.: pear shaped) that your pencil skirt is not too narrow at the knees.
We’ve styled this outfit with bold statement jewelry and a sleek clutch which also adds to the sexy sophisticated feel. And don’t you love the pumps? The color blocked toe is modern and adds elegant detail.
Now, let’s take a look at the second outfit we’ve put together .
If you haven’t noticed, cobalt blue is one of “the” top colors this fall. This deep rich hue adds depth and life to any outfit. It looks especially great when you pair it with black because the color really pops.
When you are choosing black pants to wear with a top like this make sure they have some stretch in them. Choose a heavy stretch knit or polyester/rayon/spandex blend. This helps hold in any jelly belly and smooths out any other trouble spots. Stretch also makes the overall look more co-ordinated because pants with stretch are soft and smooth just like this top, which feels almost like a second skin.
The best style of pants are flat front with no zipper or a zipper to the side. If you wore pants with a front zipper or belt loops, or was made of a stiff cotton fabric this beautiful top would not flow as well over the pants. You’d see a lot of bulk under the top which would spoil the luxurious smooth look and make you look chunky.
This black and blue combo looks stunning when you add accessories in other regal jewel tones as we have done here. The plaid Burberry bag completes the classy but casual feel of this outfit.
So there you go. Two ideas for what to wear with a plain colored top that covers your arms.
