Mom of Style Jo-Lynne Shane

It’s easy to get lazy about looking stylish, especially when you’re at home raising kids. Blogger Jo-Lynne Shane knows what I’m talking about.

In 2006, Jo-Lynne was a stay-at-home mom who had left a career in elementary education to bring up her three children. She started her blog, Jo-Lynne Shane, on a whim and grew it into a major lifestyle site featuring beauty segments, recipes, and food finds travel tips, and fashion.

Jo-Lynne found that when you work at home all day and the only people you see are your family and the mailman; it’s hard to motivate yourself to get dressed. She calls this the dreaded “frump rut” and has struggled hard to overcome it by creating a few go-to outfits that are casual, practical, and stylish.

Today, I’m sharing some of  Jo-Lynne’s casual looks- many of which are based around “an obscene amount of jeans of various shades, colors, and styles,” which she uses to mix up her daily outfits, so they don’t get stale.

Take a look at this mom of style- a Fabulous After 40 Styleblazer!

Casual Fall Style

Whether it’s running errands or working in her home office, Jo-Lynne loves a great pair of jeans and a lightweight, comfy sweater. She’s a big fan of accessories, and this pretty, delicate gold necklace adds a dash of feminity to her color-blocked sweater.

Sunday Style

Jo-Lynne lives a very casual life, so even church and date night outfits can be fairly relaxed. Her goal is to add more dresses to her wardrobe. In the meantime, this pretty blue Chevron print dress was a great choice for church and lunch afterward.

Gym Style

Stylish workout wear is a great motivator. This cute outfit helps Jo-Lynne get up and off to the gym. She has gotten into the habit of accessorizing her workout wear with a few pieces of nice jewelry and a great handbag because it makes her feel better even if she’s not going anywhere.

Edgy Moto Style

It’s easy to get into a style rut when you’re hooked on blue jeans. Jo-Lynne mixes it up a bit with a pair of khaki moto-style pants and a feminine, boho top, and a bright bag.

Jo-Lynne likes to wear this striped poncho when she’s not in the mood for a heavy winter coat. It looks great with red denim and black boots.  She threw on these big circle gold earrings in a rare “sassy moment,” even though she really thinks of them as more of a night accessory.

Spontaneous Style

Here’s a dress that was a spontaneous purchase but that Jo-Lynne has never regretted because she has worn it time and time again. It’s a great transitional dress because it can be paired with tights and boots in fall or spring or worn without stockings in warm weather.

Casual Evening Style

Jo-Lynne stuck to a variation of her go-to outfit for dinner and some shopping with friends by pairing white jeans with a light sweater and boots. Who said you couldn’t wear white in the fall?

Jo-Lynne says she’s not into high style and developed these looks out of practicality and convenience. Her wardrobe is modern and works for who she is – social influencer, brand ambassador, writer, and of course, mom!

  1. I LOVE the poncho look! It’s my favorite. Time to go buy a poncho! I love the kick of the red/orange jeans with it.

  2. It’s hard to pick a favorite! Like them all. The moto-style one and the poncho ones are at the top of my list. I’ve never heard of moto-style – would love to know more.

  3. Really like Jo-Lynne’s Edgy Moto Style pairings. I like the skinny ankle pants with classy yet understated neutral shoe, then the two pops of color with a tangerine, loose-fitting, blouse, and finally the fantastic seafoam green bag. It’s nice when a woman can be a mom but doesn’t have to have the “mom look”. Rock the moto jeans.

  4. She looks great. Love the smart casual look except for the poncho. It looks stylish but I’m not a fan of ponchos, wraps, chunky knits etc.

  5. JoLynn is right, it’s so easy to get frumpy when your a stay at home mom, as I am and I also work in our family business.. JoLynn is a beauty, I am inspired!
