DEBORAH'S STYLE

New Year, New Look!

The start of a New Year is always so exciting to me. I love the feeling of a clean slate and setting big, bold, new goals to move me closer to my dreams!

This year has been particularly thrilling because, TAH DAH…. I’ve launched my new site. Boy, did I need a makeover. It’s been years. But, you know how that is? …You get busy; you don’t have time, and then finally you make the change, and wow!

How do you like the new Fabulous After 40?

My goals were to make the blog more visual, easier to navigate and more personal. Like any big project, it was a little stressful at first, but thanks to my wonderful web designer, Thauna  from Bellano Web Studio, the whole project turned out to be a true labor of love and a total joy. I feel like I’ve just given birth!

Thank You Thauna for your patience, guidance, and for your fabulous creative design and tech skills! You were a joy to work with.

Now for the most important part. Fabulous After 40 is your home too. I want you to enjoy this community and get as much out of it as you can. So please let me know the types of topics you would like me to write about, as I prepare my editorial calendar. What are your favorite types of posts? What do you want to learn more about?

Other things I’d love to know:

  • Do you enjoy my weekly newsletter. Would you prefer it less (twice a month) or more often ( daily updates)?
  • I’m thinking of doing some how-to style videos. Would you watch my videos, or do you prefer reading blog posts?
  • Do you enjoy looking at the outfit collages in my posts. Are they helpful? Should I keep doing them?
  • I know that you all want to see more photos of real women over 40 with great style, and I’m working on that. Please tell me, would you like to see more reader photos, 40+ blogger photos or both?

Also, if you are a photographer (amateur or professional) and would like to shoot for Fabulous After 40, please email me at info@fabulousafter40.com to see about joining my virtual team. I’d love to hear from you. (That goes for budding stylists and writers too!)

  1. Hi, I look at your site quite regularly from Australia. The seasons are all wrong for us, and I quite often look at older posts to get ideas for the season we’re in here. I love your videos, particularly the ones that show how to wear an outfit, or what to look for with different body types. Please consider doing more of them – the ones you have now are great.

  2. HI! I am 43, well almost and I stumbled upon your blog recently and love it. It is great seeing stylist outfits and ideas for women my age. Thanks for your fashion ideas and keep up the inspiring fashion posts.
    Mara

  3. Your blog looks amazing and is very inspiring. Your suggestions for the new year are great, I would definitely be inspired by other 40 somethings great style pictures and videos are a good addition.

  4. I love your outfit boards – they are extremely helpful to me and I specifically like that you link items directly to the retail website. . I shop mid to high end stores ( if you are interested in where your readers shop) I love the idea of adding vids. I visit your site daily. You are gorgeous!

  5. Dear Deborah,
I’ have also been following your blog for many year already, from Western-Europe. Your advices and ideas are universal enough to be interesting for us, European ladies over 40 too! Even though I can usually not order/buy the clothes you link to, I’m often able to find similar pieces in the stores here.
I like the outfit collages a lot, hope you keep doing them. Another thing I really enjoy is when you describe and show how to adapt a young new trend to our age (leggings, culottes, fluffy sweaters, etc), I’m always looking forward to that. I personally prefer reading blogs over watching videos.
As for the newsletter: I actually am not subscribed to that anymore, because I get way to much email and newsletters already. However, what I would really like is to find the newsletter back somewhere on your website, so that I can read it when I visit the site and when I want. I’m interested in its content but it will get lost in my email overload.

    1. Hi Claire,
All the posts in the weekly newsletter are my most recent posts. So if you do not wish to receive the newsletter, but you visit Fabulous After 40 regularly you will see the, all the same, articles. I do a newsletter just to make it easy for readers who find it hard to check in daily. So glad the blog is helpful. Please let me know if there any topics you would like covered. Cheers, Deborah

  6. Great new look for the website! Please remember the Canadian readers when it comes to retailers and contests. Thanks!

  7. I would love some polyvore type ideas, ie, what looks good with what. Also the latest trends needed for wardrobe updates each season. I’m guessing most of your readers are Target, Kohl’s, TJ Maxx types, as opposed to Neimans and Sax shoppers. Thus, more low budget ideas would be more helpful. Or even mixing high and low end items for an updated look, ie, what clothing items may be worn often enough to justify a larger price tag and what is better to buy for less and not worn as often.

This Christmas our 4 girls were home from college and they went through my closet with me helping me put together outfits and donating dated items. It was so helpful to have their suggestions. I’m wondering if you could do something like this for your readers with pictures?

Thank you for your fun ideas and helpful pictures. I am so grateful for your common sense combined with your fashion sense!

  8. Just my two cents… but I love watching video blogs! I feel like I really get a sense of the blogger in a video. More of a personal connection! Love the styles and clothes you show! Keep it up. Thank you!!

    1. Hi Sherrie, Thanks for your input. Yes, I agree that video is more personal and I can show you things that are hard to show in words and photos. I’m setting up my studio and should be ready to broadcast in Feb! Cheers, Deborah

  9. Love the new website! It’s up to date and much easier to navigate. I enjoy the weekly newsletters; anything more would be too much for me. The wardrobe collages are great and so helpful in creating a new look. I’ve been following you for more than a year now and have made some great changes in my wardrobe and color selection. I also introduced my best friend to your site to try to get her out of her “black rut” and it’s really made a difference! You’re a great role model and I look forward to seeing more emphasis on bloggers over 50 and beyond.

  10. I love your style and advice, however many of the styles are brands way out off my price range. I would love to see posts from time to time on dressing stylish with budget constraints!

  11. Your new blog/site is so nice Deborah; I love the colors, info, and easy nav. Such a nice online presentation. I also love your new hairstyle; very chic and makes you look vibrant.

  12. Deb, have you considered doing some Affiliate/Partnership relationships with companies like Nordstrom, and others that are your favorites? I follow Schaeffer on her blog, which is geared younger, but I appreciate that when I see what she is wearing, she provides a link and a sales code for discounts, etc. to get the exact same or really similar item. I believe that this is an opportunity for the bloggers to make some money too, but it saves a lot of time searching for a style you see in the email. I have seen a little of this from fabulous after 40 but thought I would mention it. Even if it was an outfit you styled for an outfit collage, giving a low, medium and higher priced link to similar items would be great to quickly shop the look! http://pinteresttoldmeto.blogspot.com/

  13. Love the new site, logo and photos of you. Videos wold be great. Short (2 mins max) would be ideal. Would be helpful to have you explain why you choose certain lengths/styles/colors. Alternatively, a short interview with a wardrobe/make-up/hair professional/photographer/shoe expert on their advice for 40+ women.

  14. The blog looks as fabulous as you do Deb! Try a few videos as that seems to be the direction we’re going. I know many women are interested in wardrobe capsules, but overall you are doing a fabulous job for the over 40 crowd!
    Beth

  15. I also meant to say that you should keep the blog name the same. Fabulous after 40 is as accurate as when I told my husband that the boots that I bought “were over $70.” I never said how much over…..

  16. Have loved the blog for so long, but I will never forget seeing you and your former partner doing the video showing colors in a store, it really hit home to me. Not so much the need for video, but showing how you could SEE how different the colors worked together.

Also seeing the options for seeing the way that tights were styled, etc., the videos were really helpful. Sometimes the outfit collages are ok, but the polyvore ones seem more helpful, where they layer the outfits, not as easy to do I know. It is very, very valuable to have someone who started over 40, and like all the lucky ones we are now over 50, to blend trends in with styles that don’t age us or make us look silly! Best wishes in 2016, and looking forward to your updates!

    1. Hi Jan, Thanks for being such a loyal follower. You have been with me for a long time!! So glad you are still enjoying the blog. O.k. it sounds like video is the way to go. Fab40 TV here I come.
      Stay Tuned. Cheers, Deb

  17. I agree that focusing on some older than 40 women would be great ( I’m 55 ) and I do like the video idea. I also like your fashion forecasts a lot. Also like advice on dressing for different occasions and they can be updated regularly as fashions change. Would also like a list of retailers that ship overseas ( I’m an Australian reader).

  18. Congratulations on your new site look. I am a very long time follower of your blog and have learned much from you.
I would love to see more posts for those of us 60+ but loving style and keeping up with our look. Videos would be
    great as well.

    1. Great to hear from you Rebecca! I have a lot of readers in their 60’s. How would you say your style concerns differ from when you were in your 50’s or 40’s? What’s most important to you and what would you like me to address? Cheers, Deborah

      1. I still exercise, color my hair brown and wear great makeup. I think regarding fashion, my style concerns are looking great but casual. I live in NYC so I am out and about in museums, restaurants and theatre. However, I don’t work in a corporate environment anymore but do work part time as a sales associate for a well know Women’s line and receive their clothes. for work. I love a classic, modern look with a bit of drama and boldness in terms of accessories.

        1. Sounds like the way I like to dress. I love a classic line with a modern twist. A touch of bold jewelry or a bold accessory adds the spice. Please do send in some pictures of yourself if you have a chance. I love to feature my readers. That goes for everyone else out there too. Feel free to send in some photos for possible posting to myphoto@fabulousafter40.com Note: photos must be good quality- taken outside is best, and non-blurry. Thanks, Rebecca!

    2. How about highlighting bloggers and readers over sixty as a regular once a week or once a month feature. I follow fashion and incorporate a few new trends each season. Now I’m adding multiple watches, bracelets and chains. I also wear leggings with long tops at age 65. Could you feature some hair styles and new colours like ombre or lowlights? How about more Canadian retailers?

  19. Love the new look! I wanted to be sure to let you know that I hope very much that you will keep the collages. They are helpful, and fun. A great illustration for your fashion advice!

    1. Great Michelle, These are things I need to know. I will keep creating the outfit boards. Are there particular types of outfits you would like me to style? For example, what to wear to…… Let me know. Cheers, Deborah

    1. Hi Josephine, I started this blog when I was in my 40’s. Now I’m in my 50’s so and you are right, 40 does seem like it is moving far away. I won’t be renaming my blog, but I will be looking for role models from all decades 40+.
I think what all women over 40 have in common is that is is easy to get down about the changes that are happening to our bodies and fall into a style rut. I never want to give up on fashion. It’s fun and it makes me fee good, and as I always say, Life is too short to be Frumpy. Ladies, if you know of anyone you’d like to nominate as a role model, please let me know. Josephine was one of my Styleblazers back in June. Please check out her feature: http://bit.ly/1MofbKk Thanks for dropping by Josephine and I’m glad you like the new design. Cheers, Deborah
