Plus Size Holiday Leggings and Festive Tops

No matter what your size, good quality leggings (no flimsy, see-thru leggings allowed) with a modern, classy top makes a perfect outfit formula for a casual holiday get-together with family and friends. Add the right accessories, and you’ll look fabulous.

Here are some great ideas to look pulled together and polished in plus size holiday leggings.

Leggings + Off-the-Shoulder Sweater + Booties

Plus Size White Off the Shoulder Sweater with Leggings styled by Fabulous After 40

This off-white ribbed sweater is a lovely, feminine option to pair with leggings. Chic side openings let it fall gracefully over curves, and the off-the-shoulder style is a perfect way for over-40 gals to achieve a subtly sexy look. In dressing up your leggings for festive events, accessories make a world of difference.

These drop statement earrings are a perfect complement to the off-the-shoulder style of the sweater. And as for the bracelets, while a single bangle would be okay, a festive gathering is the ideal time to up the bling factor, so I suggest you pile them on. A great bag and sleek black booties that elongate the leg line finishes the look.

Leather Leggings + Black Tunic + Loafer Mules

Plus size Leather Leggings, Black Tunic styled by Fabulous After 40

This next out is perfect for gals who are looking for a slightly more dramatic look. These faux leather leggings are amazing. They have the edgy vibe of leather, but they’re made from a stretch knit, so they’re comfy and easy to wear. I’ve paired it with this flowy jersey tunic and on-trend loafer mules.

Instead of gold or silver jewelry, I’ve opted for something slightly more exciting with these faux-tortoiseshell earrings and bracelets. (They’re a high price!) You can easily add a black purse, but why not go for it and carry one that is a little unexpected like this blush one with black handles. This look is pure sophistication.

Leggings + Cardigan + Metallic Shoes

Nothing says Christmas and cozy like a red cardigan, and when it’s this belted long cardigan, it also says chic. Keep your leggings and tank black, so you get the beautiful column of color that slim and elongates. These particular legs are Ponte, a double-knit version that is thicker and translates more like pants. You can wear the cardigan open or, to get more of an hourglass shape, loosely tie it to nip in your waist. Finish it off with some sparkly metallic footwear. Silver shoes are one of this season’s big trends.

  1. I’ll be wearing an ethnic print slit-sleeve tunic with black faux leather leggings and black suede booties. I have a purse like the one you show in the “edgy” look. The tunic was a super deal, on sale because it was called a dress (way too short for that). I would not have considered this type of look a few years ago, but now it’s “me”.

  2. Though I am not aplus size, I appreciate that you are showing leggings and cute tunics for holiday looks. Another mature blogger — who’s my age — recently mentioned that she is giving up leggings and tunics now. I wasn’t sure why, as they looked great on her, but it gave me pause and made me wonder about my own choice to wear this look. Thanks for showing these cute outfit ideas. I find leggings and tunics to be incredibly comfortable, slimming, and easy to put together with accessories, to dress up or down.

    1. I think I know the blogger you’re talking about Cindy L. I, too, was surprised to read this as she does look good in them. In any event, think leggings and/or tunics can be worn by most anyone at any age if worn correctly. I love my leggings and don’t see giving them up anytime soon.
