Spring is still a month or so away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t slowly start breaking into some lighter and brighter clothes. A lot of my plus size readers have been asking me for suggestions for tops that can wear now as they head out on vacation, and to transition into spring. So, here’s what I’ve come up with.
Take a look at these cute finds that are cheery, casual and classy.
1. Palm Perfection
Once spring arrives, I am ready to shed the dark shades of black, brown, and gray for happier colors. The gorgeous mix of shades of green in this cute Vince Camuto blouse are so pleasing. This blouse with drawstring sleeves is great to wear for lunch outdoors on a beautiful spring day.
2. Keep It Under Wraps!
Wrap tops are a favorite among gals over 40. They are flattering, for one. For another thing, they are usually made of a soft cotton fabric making them incredibly comfortable. This printed three quarter sleeve wrap top from Anne Klein features a v-neck and a soft knit to make it a great choice for any occasion.
3. All In Knots
I love this knot front short sleeve tee for occasions when you want to look nice with minimal effort. It’s super soft and comfy. Pair it with jeans or a pair of joggers to run weekend errands. Snap it up now to look fab later.
4. Off-The-Shoulder
If you’re going for a head-turning look, this floral off-the-shoulder top is for you. The ruffled sleeves add drama and the shoulder-baring neckline adds allure. This top would be perfect for a girls’ night out on the town.
5. Modern Boho
When you want to wear boho, but don’t want to look like a leftover from the 60s or 70s, go for this embroidered peasant top. It’s a modern update on a favorite classic peasant top.
6. Bold Blue
Blue is poised to be one of spring’s top colors. Pantone’s color selection for 2020 is Classic Blue. This striped handkerchief top is simple but elegant, incredibly comfortable, and delivers a bold shot of blue. This spring wardrobe must-have pairs nicely with dark denim, as shown, but would really go well with white denim also.
7. Give Them The Cold Shoulder!
Flirty and feminine perfectly describes this Karen Kane studded cold shoulder top. You can’t go wrong this spring in this bold blacktop with eye-catching stud detail.
8. The Layered Look
I absolutely love the look of layers but I don’t like the bulk. This pretty v-neck sweater combines delicate lace shirttail and a v-neck inset to create a smooth, layered look without all the unflattering heaviness.
9. “Reddy” For Spring
This red pintuck tunic is relaxed and comfy with its flattering V-neck and billowy sleeves. Pair it with jeans now, and a pair of cool, white pants as temperatures start to rise.
10. Modern Colorblock
Strategically placed colored panels make you look slim and trim. This half-zip, roll-sleeve top with a center color panel creates a slim center line to elongate your torso and make it appear leaner and more narrow. This top is ideal for gals who are wider on top than on the bottom.

If I was in my 30’s, yes! But I don’t think they are suitable for me (59) But I do appreciate the models not being thin while modeling plus size clothing.
59? These would look great on you Sandee!(Although I understand some women may not like off the shoulder)
Unless you’re tall, none of these will flatter the full figure. At 5’4″ all of these would make me look like Fred Flintstone… shorter and brick shaped. For my height and weight everything I’ve read shows a shorter cut is best, and I tend to agree for us short, sturdy ladies. Just sharing that in full figure sizes, not every cut is flattering.
Thank you Deborah for showing these tops. One top I’ve found that fits my apple-shape and big-bust are the ones that have the elastic at the bottom hem. I thought they would balloon out on me and make me look bigger but they are actually flattering. Not sure about the off the shoulder tops because how do you wear your bra? Chances are if we’re plus-size we’re probably not able to wear a strapless bra. Just sharing in case your readers are interested in other options.
I am not fond of any of these. The hemlines are all the same length. Plus size women have different shapes, not just “big’. These are not flattering.
Thank you for acknowledging plus size clothing and featuring them here. One thing that drives me crazy is that so may designers refuse to make clothing for heavier women and some even consider size 12 as extra large. I suppose they don’t want anyone but stick thin women wearing their creations, but they are losing out on a huge segment of the population. And too many stores or catalogs that do feature plus size items feature things that look so ugly and unflattering. Thank you for not forgetting there are millions of women out here who are not size 2.
Kathy we are on the same wavelength! It is such a dumb business model to not design for the majority of American women, where the average size is 14! Julia http://www.whenthegirlsrule.com
