It may be the dead of winter, but my mind is definitely on spring, since seeing all the new and adorable spring and summer shoes that are suddenly popping up in stores. I’ve already bought a couple of pairs, and I’m squirreling them away until the warmer weather hits. They’re honestly just too cute to pass up.
Have a look at what’s in for spring, and see if you don’t agree that it’s never too early to get one foot in the door on these fab shoe trends.
1. Lavender Rules
The Pantone Color of the Year for 2018 is Ultra Violet, so it’s no wonder that shoes in shades of purple like these lavender wedge slide sandals are all the rage. I can’t get enough of this pretty, delicate color and the laser cutouts are just so feminine and ladylike.
This lacy sandal is a comfy way to get some height and will look great worn with a dress, skirt or your favorite pair of jeans or white pants. I’ve ordered these lovelies, but I think I should also order the nude color they come in too. Fabulous!
2. Kitten Heels are Back
If you long to wear pretty high heels, but they kill your feet, then take a look at these shoes which are the cat’s meow! These hot pink pointy toe mules have kitten heels making them perfect for over-40 feet.
They’re very feminine and give you a little height, but are more practical than a higher, spikier heel. This gorgeous suede pair has a lovely knot detail which you’ll be seeing a lot of this spring.
3. High Tongues and Vamps are New
The vamp is the part of the shoe that covers the front of the foot, and this spring it’s the area that’s getting a lot of attention. We’re seeing lots of shoes with a high futuristic vamp like these dramatic v-shaped suede pumps.
I’m showing them here in bright red (brights are another Spring and Summer 2018 trend) but they also come in black and a few other beautiful shades. A high-vamp shoe is a great way to update your basic black work and dress-up pumps. You’ll look great at the office in this modern style.
4. Snakeskin is Sensational
Snakeskin is something that comes and goes and this spring it has slithered back into the spotlight. A classic pump in snakeskin is always chic, but when I came across these python-embossed low-heeled pumps, I had to show them to you. They’re great for the gal in a conservative work environment who wants to spice up her work wardrobe with a little touch of edgy.
They are also super comfortable. With a wearable two-inch block heel and memory foam insole with arch support, you’ll won’t mind being run off your feet all day long.
5. Woven is Wonderful
Here’s something fun with an artsy-crafty vibe. Get ready for shoes with woven fabric uppers and heels. There’s something about them that just says spring and summer.
I chose this woven slide block heel sandal to show you as an example for a couple of reasons. Slides were big last year, and they’re still going strong. This particular pair has a subtle slanted statement heel to make it a little more interesting. And I LOVE the color. Notice the hint of lavender? Didn’t I tell you this color is a big deal this year?
These shoes would nicely dress up jeans or a pair of black pants in the spring. And come summer, they’ll look cute with your summer dresses.
6. Big-Toe Strap is Chic
Be sure to get a pedicure because the big toe is the focal point of some of the cutest sandals this summer. This chic gold sandal is from Diane Von Furstenberg. These will look amazing with a pair of white jeans!
7. Glitter – Gotta Try It!
The best way for most over-40 gals to rock the glitter shoe trend is with a sandal that combines glitz with good taste. These sequin slide sandals hit the mark. The high-gloss sequins are kept in check by a simple and classic slide-style sandal. This is an elegant shoe that will look great with a casual summer dress cropped white jeans.
8. Transparent Tops the Shoe Trend List
Peek-a-boo! See-through shoes are big this spring and summer. They have a bit of a mod, 1960s kind of vibe, and while this might seem a little fashion-forward for some, there are plenty of pairs out there that are super cute and classy.
Some, like this transparent strap slide sandal that reminds me a little of Cinderella’s glass slipper, are very sophisticated and elegant. If heels aren’t your thing, another option is these sandals. I’m partial to the gold color.
9. Strappy is Sexy
You’ll be seeing very strappy sandals in all colors and styles. These cork sandals are classic and a safe bet for most over-40 gals. But if you prefer something a little more fun, and out there, check out these in blue denim.
10. Feathers are Fun
If you’re a shoe-aholic who loves to be first with the trends, then these fine, feathery sandals are for you. Feathers add texture and interest, not to mention drama and a good dose of glam. These oh-so-pretty pink feather ankle strap sandals are super feminine and would look adorable with something on the sleek and simple to show them off.
11. Bright Platforms for a Bold Look
Here’s a spring shoe that combines two trends – platforms and brights. Hello, blue suede platform sandals. The platform adds a touch of retro glam while the bright shade looks electric and modern. And if you’re worried about the height, don’t be. These shoes get great reviews online because, despite the heel height, they’re comfortable and easy to wear.
12. Kitschy is Cute
This spring and summer, shoes with lots of embellishment, some bordering on kitschy are having a moment. So if you like this trend, then I say have a little fun and go for it with something like these embellished block heel slide sandals that have rhinestones, sequins and floral embroidery on the crisscross straps of a luxe boho sandal trimmed in frayed satin!
