Chances are you’ve got something leopard or cat-like hanging in your closet. This week we take a walk on the wild side to see how 40+ women wear their exotic animal prints.
Cute and Casual
Love this dress from a Toronto reader we caught shopping on a Saturday afternoon. It’s a subtle leopard print, but you still get that sexy animal vibe.
Wrap It Up
A cardinal rule for wearing animal prints is that a little goes a long way. You want to make a fashion statement without being mistaken for the animal itself. Scarves are an easy way to achieve this as my reader Marilyn shows us. I love how she has paired the animal print scarf with a pair of skinny black trousers, a white blouse, classic blazer, and heels. It brings her look to life!
Make it Edgy
If you have a leather jacket, try wearing it with an animal print skirt. Over 40 style blogger, Annette pulls off this edgy, classy look beautifully. The ladylike cut and length or her classic pencil skirt offset the edginess of her black leather moto jacket and make for a modern, cool combination. To see more of Annette’s impeccable style, read my Styleblazer interview on this Lady of Style.
Top It Off
Animal prints seem to be a favorite with 40+ style bloggers. Style blogger Darlene picked up this sheer animal print jacket at a thrift store. The 50+ blogger from Who’s a Pretty Girl specializes in “thrift overs, which are makeovers using fabulous finds from thrift shops.
I spotted this crisply tailored jacket in a graphic animal print worn by an Image Consultant at the AICI conference and had to stop for a photo. Classy and elegant… a stunning animal print look.
Mix in a Pop of Color
Lissy from A Girl in Boston, and a Fabulous After 40 Styleblazer has it right with this eye-catching combination of bold pink and leopard. Her gorgeous Max Mara leopard jacket is a solid wardrobe staple she will have for years. I can also see this jacket and pants with a gorgeous emerald green top too.
Adrienne from The Rich Life (on a budget) looks ready for some fun in this casual leopard top that she bought at a thrift store. Adrienne loves to mix high and low, and it’s not unusual for her to wear a thrift store blouse with a high-end designer handbag. I own a leopard blouse too and I wear mine with leggings. Take a look.
I love how even the smallest and simplest bit of animal print can make a huge statement. If you are a more conservative dresser, try an animal print accessory to start, and work your way up from there. That’s what Judith, the creator of Style Crone has done. Look how well she has accessorized this outfit with a beautiful leopard print pillbox hat.
Finally, here’s one last look at my friend JoJami and I in matching animal print outfits. Seriously, we had no idea that the other was going to dress up this way, and when we got together, we had a really big laugh about it. Has that ever happened to you?
I love hearing from you and cheering you on, Glam Gals!
