What to Wear on a Casual Day Out to the Museum
The mystery of Cleopatra and the history of Egypt has always been a topic of intrigue. That’s why the Cleopatra Exhibit at the California Science Center has been so popular! Here are JoBee and 2 of her girlfriends who headed off to see it.
Don’t these ladies look terrific? And these three gals span 3 decades over 50, 60, and 70!
One of the questions that I get so often from my more mature readers is:
“Do I have to dress differently when I’m 60 than when I was 40?”
Of course, I can’t answer that in just a quick yes or no. When it comes to over 40 styles and tastes there are so many variables to keep in mind.
- What is your body type? Whatever your best feature, make sure to play it up!
- What kind of personality do you have? Are you quiet and shy, bold and confident, or somewhere in between? There’s no one right or wrong way to dress but it is important that you feel authentic.
- If heels are a problem, what shoes can I wear to still look chic?
- What style of hair do you have? Your hair sets the tone of your outfit.
These are important points to consider and a good way to get started as you begin thinking about ways to update your style.
As you can see, each of these ladies has their own style personality yet they look youthful and age-appropriate wearing leggings, scarves, a vest, and even colorful, flat boots.

Thank you for considering this topic! I am slightly over 60 (not ready for Medicare yet) and struggle with this issue. I am on the tall side, slim (size 4 in Ann Taylor, 2-6 elsewhere), and have red hair that goes with my pale skin. I have a straight figure, so I often wear a belt to create a waist. I live in a part of the country where the dress is casual, and I wear skinny jeans with ballet shoes in warm weather, tucked into boots in the winter. Is this latter look still OK for me?
Hi Emily, As you can see, age is just a number, and dressing fashionably is attainable at any age! Yes, you can undoubtedly wear skinny jeans and flats after 40,50 and every 60, but you will want to make sure your top is long enough to cover your bottom. Thanks for writing to us!
