Hi Deborah,
I saw your article on long hair after 40, loved it. I am 53, 5ft., 105lbs. I work hard at wellness, eating right, and keeping fit, which all contribute to good hair & skin quality.
It’s just as healthy as when I was younger just that it now shimmers with silver.
Thought y’all might get a kick out of seeing short to long, so here is a picture of my long hair, taken recently, when I was celebrating my twins 21st B-Day.

Denise, now with her long hair all grown out.
I’m also sending a picture of my hair before this when I cut it super short to get the dye out and let it start growing. It was quite a process, whewwww!

Denise, with short hair
My kids love my long hair as do their friends, and I am happy to be a role model/advocate for going gray and still rockin’ long hair! Have a great day, and thank you for your awesome articles as they are much appreciated. Best, Denise Buchoz
Hi Denise,
You are such a wonderful example of the way to wear long hair over 40, and on top of that, you are doing it with your natural color! Thanks for sharing your story and photos with all of us! You are a true Glam Gal. I love your long, silver tresses. Cheers! Deborah

Wow . . I am 42 and would date Denise Buchoz in a heart beat! . . .I am a fan of her long silver sexy hair.
Wow! I can’t help but admire how beautiful she looked with that long gray hair, I’m not getting any gray hair soon but I sure can suggest my mom to have hers grow longer and look gorgeous like this, Thanks for sharing this photos, I can’t wait to show this to my mom.
She looks amazing! Much more flattering in the “after” photo. My entire life, I’ve gone back and forth between short and long hair and realize that I feel my best and most attractive with my hair somewhere between my shoulder blades and my “bra hook” area. I’m 45 and my hair has not been above my shoulders since my mid 30’s.
I think it depends on the person. I have short blond hair. I don’t actually have grey hair yet (lots of other signs of aging, but not that one). I find when my hair gets past my chin, it pulls my face down, and on me that is aging. I have a friend who is heavy herself, and has thick grey hair that is shoulder length.I find it looks “too much” and needs a shorter style (or maybe is just lacking style – I’m not sure). I find Denise has a young looking face and wears her hair well long or short. Bottom line is, I think you can’t paint everyone with the same brush – all kinds of other factors come into play.
Love to see long gray on a beautiful woman like Denise. Au naturale is best!
Tish, I just can’t agree that grey hair is ageing – have you looked at the going grey looking great website? All the ladies there look better with their natural grey! I think Denise looks really beautiful. I like both short and long hair, wear whatever suits your type of hair and lifestyle. I’ve had very short hair for 20 years and decided at 49 that it was actually ageing me and I had kept cutting it just out of habit and practicality. It’s been growing for over a year now and I get so many compliments, it is so thick, curly and wavy and is my natural colour, I have just a tiny sprinking of silver strands that are barely noticeable. I don’t intend to dye it, I have never dyed my hair as I hate all those chemicals. I do agree that you need good grooming and to wear makeup if you are keeping your grey hair otherwise you will look washed out. It is bad grooming and lack of style that is ageing, not the grey of your hair.
While Denise looks fine with longer hair, I am not a fan of gray hair on any woman. It makes the skin look harsh and adds 10, if not 20, years to how one looks. Long hair or short, gray is aging. There are too many beautiful choices of colors and highlighting techniques out there today, both in salon and in home, to just give up and let one’s hair go to seed.
I have the same question. People say I look good in short of long hair but what is “age appropriate” is my concern. She looks awesome in long hair!!!
Hi Deborah:
Greetings from Puerto Rico!
I am planning to grow back my hair (I´ve been with short hair for too long). The problem is that growing it back is a nightmare because I think I won´t have any style for a while. Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot.
Hi Chris,
Great to hear from you!!! Here is our tip, but it might sound counter intuitive! We suggest while growing your hair that you keep it trimmed up!
Yes, that is right, you still need to get your trimmed on a regular basis (around every 7-8 weeks) while you are growing it out!! Does that mean it might take longer to grow? Yes, but it will be a lot less painful! Good luck!
She looks great in the long hair pic. And the grey is awesome on her. I personally like both long and short hair styles. Key word “styles.” Just like anything having to do with design or style (i.e. clothes, furniture, etc.), you have to find what works best with you. Heck, I won’t buy anything that doesn’t work with my skin tone. This includes paint for my walls, the color of my furniture, curtains, comfortors, clothes, shoes and purses. My motto is, “Look cheery not dreary.” It’s all an art. You’ve got to find the right CUT for your FACE SHAPE and the right HAIR COLOR for your SKIN TONE. At 52 years old I’ve had many many cuts, styles, and colors. Tried going grey before turning age 50 and thought it looked good until I saw the pics of me on my 50th birthday. I immediately went and colored my hair. But, now that I’ve seen how great she looks going grey with short or long hair, I’m going in search of finding the right blend and/or tone of salt and pepper to work with my face and skin tone.
I like my hair long and even though I am going gray the blond still hides it well. She looks great with her gray long hair.
She does look beautiful with her long gray hair. I’m a short hair fan, though (no matter age or hair color) and I think she looks so adorable and YOUNG in her short hair picture. I love my hair, which is about 80% silvery gray. Just wish the remainder would hurry up and turn already!
I think sometimes longer hair can soften an older woman’s face. I was glad to see Hilary Clinton has grown hers out. It just looks so much more feminine to me. But ofcourse it depends on the person and whether or not they look good with long hair regardless of their age. I look pretty young for my age, but I have been told that short hair makes me look a little soccer momish, not what I’m going after! Nothing against soccer moms.
I love this! At 49 I’m still on my way to grey and really don’t want to dye. It’s so toxic, especially the dark shades.
I always think of Emmylou Harris as a really good example of great sexy grey hair. She always looks fantastic! :)
My hair is totally white. I love it Its beautiful. But It is cut short. Long hair doesn’t work for me no matter what color it is.Also I’ve gone thru menopause and that was the happiest day of my life.Free at last! Thank God I’m free at last.:)))
I am 43 have long brown wavy layered hair with gray mostly at the top if I do not color it (which I hate to do) my hair tends to look like a skunk. I wish there was a way for me to go natural if my grays were not so concentrated at the top only. Any suggestions glam girls even though you do not agree with having gray hair.
HI Grace,
I think you need a trip to your hairstylist to get a plan. With your situation it might need some coloring to help you go gray.
BTW… I’m not against gray hair for all. Gray hair is fine on some. Like most things in life, you have to see what works for you.
Gorgeous in this picture, no question about it.
And not to be unkind, but I think you’d have to REALLY work to be sure that later in the day this hair that now looks very sleek and shiny and healthy doesn’t turn into a wiry and dry HOT MESS.
Because honestly, I almost never see gray hair that looks this good. It just doesn’t. MOSTLY because of the texture of gray hair.
Just my opinion though…if that’s what YOU like then rock on!
Love her hair. She looks great with it long.
love the long!
WOW, gorgeous. I am seriously thinking of growing out my grey & you are an inspiration !
Yes, she is very lucky she has such gorgeous and healthy hair! She looks so much better with it long!
Absolutely beautiful!
