It’s Fashion Flash Monday and we are here to share with you another great round of hot style and beauty tips from our outstanding group of bloggers!
This week we are talking about belly fat. Is it driving you crazy?
Our host Shawna, from Female Fat Loss Over Forty, is hosting and you can read all about this topic and more!
Oh the joys of aging….I don’t know about you, but this over 40 gal is starting to see some fine wrinkles around my mouth and eyes.
I guess I’m not the only one. Here is a letter we just got this morning from Betty,
Dear Glam Gals,
What is the best thing to do for the fine little lines to the right and left of my mouth?
Thanks,
Betty
Really Betty, all a Glam Gal can do is make sure to moisturize or get filler. That being said, today I will comment on the less evasive of the two. There are so many out there on the market it is hard to decide which ones work or don’t. So, we called on Deborah Chase, from No Nonsense Beauty and asked her about StriVectin-SD.

Does this work for fine lines?
Just so happens I (JoJami) have had some in my cabinet that I picked up and wanted to know her thoughts on it.
She told me that StriVectin recently changed their formula and have done tons of research to make it more effective. Moreover, she found that she had tried the old version and the new and this latest version did indeed work well for her.
Personally, I do have sensitive skin and I have noticed that my skin feels nice and smooth after I apply it and not greasy. I also like that it has no fragrance in it and that it did not irritate my skin.
Another skin care line that I have enjoyed over the years, was Emerita. I liked that it was developed with mature skin needs in mind and that it is made with natural ingredients.

This is Emerita's serum for dark circles.

No mater what your style: elegant, funky, traditional or dramatic, one certain way to look more youthful after 40 is to inject a little sportiness into the way you dress. What is sporty dressing and how can you borrow from this style, but still be true to who you are. Let’s take a look
| Short and Bright is Sporty:
Trenchcoats are a wonderful staple in any wardrobe, but as they are quite traditional and conservative, they can sometimes make you look old boring after 40.
That’s not the case with this one!
What keeps this trench looking young and hip?…. The bold blue color (primary colors are sporty), the short length (shorter is sportier than long) and the youthful knotted belt, instead of typical flat belt. A great addition to any 40+ wardrobe! (Nordstrom) |
 |
| Linen is sporty :
Sporty people are active (active=young) so it’s natural their clothes are lightweight , loose and comfy. If you want to add that dash of youth to your look try a pair of casual, linen pants with a sporty drawstring waistline.(Nordstrom)
|
 |
| Rolled or pushed up Sleeves are sporty:
Any kind of sleeve rolled up or pushed up adds a dash of sportiness to your look. It send the message, I’m ready for action, which = youthful.
Some women who have always been the traditional or elegant types may find it hard to incorporate sporty into their wardrobe because it’s too casual compared to what they are used to.
This dress is great for those women because, although it is sporty ( shirtdress style, bright color, woven natural belt and rolled up sleeves) it still looks very “neat and tidy”. (Nordstrom) |
 |
Totes are Sporty:
One way to add a dash of sporty is with your choice of handbag. Totes symbolize sporty.
What we like about this tote is it is not boring-sporty. Instead of just a plain neutral colored tote this one has some personality. It’s great for someone who is on the creative side, but wants to inject a little sportiness ( youthfulness) into their wardrobe. (Nordstrom) |
 |
| Sporty Stripes
Just as certain materials spell sporty ( cottons, linens, natural fabrics, knits) so do certain patterns and prints, likes stripes. This fitted top with the deep v is on the sexy side. The stripes + the shorter sleeves add a definite sportiness (youthfulness) to the look. The result is sexy/sporty. (Nordstrom) |
 |
| Denim is sporty:
The ultimate in sporty is denim. This shirt sends the message sporty, but not in rough teenager way.
The smooth soft wash on this shirt, plus the streamlined fit give it a much more refined grown-up look. The metal jewelry also kicks it up a notch. |
 |

Jennifer Aniston is a great example of a gal who eptiomises sporty.
With her sun streaked hair, natural make-up, sporty aviator glasses, jeans & tees or short and sexy minis she looks like the ultimate California gal.

The Halston jumpsuit I tried on
I (Deborah) was out shopping the other day and came across an elegant black stretch knit Halston jumpsuit. I was intrigued. I used to wear jumpsuits back in the 70′s and loved them! They looked sexy and chic. I hadn’t worn one in years, so was curious to see how this one would look.
After several ” what the hecks”, I tried it on. I looked in the mirror and started to giggle. I felt pretty darn good. Still, I didn’t quite like how the elastic waistband made my little mommy tummy look. Some Spanx would have done wonders, but instead I just put the jumpsuit back and said, “I’ll think about it”.
What was stopping me? Did I feel too old to be wearing something I wore in my teenage years?
I came home and went online to check out this new trend and found lots of jumpsuits, mainly black. I’m thinking that this look is worth another try, and if I can find the right jumpsuit I will buy one. I’m still pretty slim and tall, so maybe.
What about you??? Would you wear a jumpsuit???
Take a look at a few I found that I’d consider trying on, and a few that I wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole.
| Maybe??
I like this one because it is very understated. The cowl neck will draw the attention up to my face instead of my tummy and I know I’ll feel better in the longer sleeves, rather than sleeveless. This should be more flattering because of the wider leg which will balance out my hips. I’d add some fab earrings. (Saks) |
 |
| Why would I go here?Normally I would never try on anything strapless just because I hate the hassle of wearing a strapless bra and I feel a little bare in strapless. But this is kind of a cute jumpsuit. It has a nice relaxed, ” let’s hang around the pool” feel. It might work for me with flats as shown and if if I put some kind of cropped sweater over top or wear a little wrap. You never know until you try it. ( This is not a good choice if you are really busty) (Saks) |
 |
| I like the Elegance of this:
Love this. It seems very grown up and chic, but not sure if I’d feel good in those teeny spaghetti straps. They’re hard to pull off when you are more soft and fleshy than you used to be. Worth a shot. (Saks) |
 |
| The color attracts me:
Purple is a nice change from black, but again spaghetti straps + those tapered cropped pant legs probably not a good combination for me. I have curvy hips and I think I’ll look like a hippo in this! Have to see it in person to decide. (Saks) |
 |
| No Thanks:
Definitely too weird for me at any age. That sloppy t-shirt look and crazy Aladin pant is off the wall. (Saks) |
 |
| Art Attack:
Pass…. Way too much going on for me. I think this graphic art print reminds me of some kind of road construction sign. There’s so much going on I think it would make me look clownish. I like more sophistication 40, 50 and beyond.(Nordstrom) |
 |
| Can’t see it on me:
I guess if you are closer to 40 and have a supermodel body, but put this on the average middle aged woman and it could easily be a total nightmare. For me it’s got that ” desperate to be sexy” look. Too much. (Saks) |
 |
| Do I really need to say anything?
Lesson here- Do not go near a baggy jumpsuit unless you want to look like a giant paperbag!!! This look is frump city. (Nordstrom) |

This over 40 model says, " I'm just running around doing errands today"..."Looking fab", we say!
We recently found a wonderful site called Atlantis Home that we wanted to share with all you more daring fashionistas out there.
The author (shown here) is over 40 and just so happens to be a former model. However, even if you are not tall and rail thin, you can still take some fun tips on how to dress a little more funky but still age appropriate!
What makes her looks so great?
- The jacket is updated with 3/4 sleeves and chunky buttons and is a good length on her.
- The gold necklace is bold like the jacket and softens the black top
- Love the neckline of that mini dress
- These jeans are slim all the way down, but not too tight, they give the legs an extra long lean look.
- Even though she is tall she is still rocking platform boots. Believe it or not, these types of heels can be really comfortable.
- She looks sexy with out having to wear tight clothes

Enjoy!

- Are you ready to change?
If you are reading this blog, chances are that you are pretty open to change, but funny thing is that much of society view those of us who are over 40, as stuck in a rut.
