Tina Fey is a knock-out in these red shoes with black hose!
Hi Ladies –
I recently purchased a pair of cute red shoes for the holidays, and now wondering how to wear them. I have lots of basic black in dressy and casual fabric and styles — slacks, dresses, etc. But what about hosiery? Is it tacky to wear black hose with red shoes? Should I stick with nude hose? Or … am I too old for red shoes (in my 50s)? Thanks for your advice and happy holidays! Cynthia L.
With peeptoes, wear thicker tights and not sheer hose.

Red shoes are fun and look fabulous especially around holiday time. If you like them, wear them. Age is not a factor.
As for what hose to wear with them, here’s what we would suggest:
Black Dress – Wear a black dress with opaque black tights or sheer black hose + red shoes for a pop of color. Tights are better suited to day looks, while sheers look best in the evening.
You could choose to carry a red bag with your red shoes and you’d have that whole color blocking look going on which is very modern.
Note: If your red shoes are peeptoe, be sure you wear tights and not sheer hose. You need that heaviness with the peeptoe. Just remember, the focus will be on your shoes, so keep the rest of your outfit simple make sure your shoes are really good quality.
Alternatively, you could also wear nude sheer hose with a black dress and red shoes. This is a more traditional look. It’s not as sexy or fashion forward, but is totally acceptable.

Boy oh boy, was I ever surprised when I hit downtown Asheville to check out the shopping. Talk about artsy, funky and vibrant! Yes siree, did I have a blast just window shopping until I dragged my husband into this amazing boutique called Minx.
This table of shoes caught my eye...and this gal was dressed so cute! Love her flat loafers, comfortable and chic!
At first I thought that all the clothes were vintage but then I saw this display of new shoes and fell in love with these little black booties.
These black booties by Gidigio have the perfect size heel and the ruffle gives it a touch of softness!
Slipped those puppies on and it was love at first step… had to have them!
Now I want you to notice how adorable the sales gal is! Of course she is NOT 40 but I thought it was worth mentioning that her outfit would be age appropriate for any over 40 gal.
Moreover, many of you all have been asking…”What do I wear with straight legged jeans.?” Check out her flat loafers. This is as new trend for fall that we just adore!! Paired with a t-shirt and cropped short jacket it looks casual yet pulled together!

Even if you were born with the “style gene”, it’s tricky to figure out what shoes to match with what. This summer put your best foot forward, as we bring young 7 of the hottest shoe styles, plus ideas for how to pull an outfit together around them.
1. Ballet flats

Simple and chic, the ballet flat can be a great look great with skinny jeans, a nice flowing knee-length skirt or walking shorts. Ballet flats are perfect for travel especially if you are going to be doing a lot of walking. Look for the soft leather ones or the elasticized fold up type that slip easily into the corner of any suitcase.

2. Sandals

The less dressed you are, the less shoe you need. That’s why airy flat sandals,work best with full-blown summer looks that says casual and relaxed. Pair sandals with breezy sundresses, maxi dresses, shorts, or loose linen pants. Steer away from boring brown or beige run of the mill sandals. Instead choose sandals that say “now”. Metallic colors, like this pair add a little glitz or shine. They are considered a neutral and work with almost anything. The rope detail gives these a summer nautical feel.

3. Gladiator Sandal

Don’t let summer pass you by without a sexy pair of gladiator sandals. They’re hip modern and look great with pretty much anything. A neutral shade like this looks fabulous with all white, which is very much in style this summer, or with any other color.

4. Wedges

The wedge is the perfect shoe to update your wardrobe with. It looks youthful and fresh and works with almost everything from shorts to skirts, capris and pants. An added bonus- wedges are soooo comfortable to walk in! |
5. Platform
 |
Platforms are great, especially for shorter gals. They add height, yet are still relatively easy to walk in. Platforms can go from casual to dressy depending on the shoe. Stay away from platforms that are too heavy and clunky or you’ll end up looking like your teenage daughter. The thinner the platform the classier the look. This pair comes with the platforms built right into the shoes so you don’t see them on the outside. If you want to attract attention, just wear a platform with an A-line shirt, cotton shirt and fitted jacket, and enjoy the compliments. |
6. Dress shoes

Never underestimate the power of a shoe-especially a dress shoe. Take a simple summer dress, match it with flip-flops and you have one look. Then pair it with some killer summer heels and you totally change the feel of your outfit. This season you can bring out a touch of your wild side by stepping out in shimmering snake-embossed wrapped heels from Michael Kors. They are a great way to jazz up an outfit or dress. Don’t forget to get a good pedicure!

7. Sporty casual (running shoe)

To look youthful, you’ve got to look current. So dump those boring heavy, white workout sneakers and experiment with trendier, sporty shoes. The Privo Ardea flat is a good choice. Cutouts detail the vamp of this sporty flat. You you can wear them with walking shorts, khakis, a nice sweat suit or perhaps a lightweight colorful straight leg jean. Now here is a GREAT photo … my mother JoBee has been buying shoes from Lina (shown below) for years. She is one of the top sales people in the Saks shoe department. She recently called my mother and attached this photo and said: “You have to come in and try these shoes on…they are so comfortable and HOT!” Lina is an Age-mazing (41) and can really rock these shoes! I agree that these sky-high platforms are all the rage, but I am still torn if they are age-appropriate. Personally, I would not wear something this high, but we want to know, would you wear these shoes?
