Fashion Inspiration! How do I wear those half booties?

We recently had a question from a reader:

Dear Glam Gals,

I love those little half booties that were so popular last fall. I see that they are coming out again this year and would love want to buy a pair, but just do not know what  or how to wear them? HELP!

Karen G.~ Minnesota.

Hi Karen,

Your timing is perfect! We just saw this add for the DKNY and here they are showing the same shoe with lots of  different looks!

This ad from DKNY is an excellent example of how to look updated!

Here is why we like them:

Layering with cropped straight pants:

Great casual look, could do it with flats too! (DKNY)

Add a vest! (try one, you might like it!)

Simple white blouse (untucked)

Flat front straight cropped pants

vest. (Might want try to find one longer, if you want to hide hips)

.(DKNY)

Cute for work or out to dinner:

Back again, this layered look was popular last fall thanks to Michele Obama.

Try a skinny belt and make sure you have a pair of those opaque tights. (the ones with patterns can make your legs look fat, so keep it simple with solid colors unless you have super skinny legs)

(DKNY)

Slim Balloon pant:
We are seeing a huge comeback this fall with the balloon pant. Beware this style does not work on all body types. However, if it is well cut, on the slim side, like this one, it might look great on you! Can be a fun style to try. Not so great with flats though…. (DKNY)
Scarf Action!:

Adding a long skinny scarf is an easy way to go from drab to fab! These tight, just to the ankle jeans have a little “poof” at the ankle that can actually be flattering! (DKNY)

This soft jacket  pulls the entire look together:

For a modern twist on the navy or grey blazer, try one that is made of a soft fabric. Both comfortable and chic it will knock you up on the style scale! (DKNY)

What are the rules for co-ordinating your purse and shoes?

Here’s a great style question from one of our readers:

“It now seems to be the style to not have your shoes and purse match. What and how do you determine what to match them with? The old way was to have back, brown, navy,or red if you where feeling wild and they always matched your purse..Some pointers on what is in now.”

~Barbara P.

Your purse and shoes do not have to match but they should blend in style and weight.

Deciding what purse to go with your shoes can be tricky. Some women buy only one purse and wear it with everything. Others collect purses and change them around all the time. It all depends on your needs and lifestyle, but in general your purse  needs to be of  high quality and the size should fit your style and personality.

This is a photo of fellow blogger Susan Tabak who always has great fashion sense!  See how the colors all blend and her purse does not stand out, but pulls her simple outfit together!

Here are a few basic rules to remember:

Play with mixing colors, but keep one color neutral :

If you have gray shoes, you can have fun with a colorful bag. This look is more for work because of the stiffer, dressier bag. The slouchy bag in front  with the gladiator sandals are better for a casual look because they are both less formal.

An outfit made up of  solid colors will get a lift from a purse with some color or texture :

This simple outfit is perked up with these purple flats and a snakeskin clutch.

Don’t do a stiff purse with a casual outfit:

If you like to wear casual or soft flowing clothes your handbag should match the look. This purse is too boxy and stiff for this sporty outfit.

This softer, relaxed hobo style purse is much better with this outfit~

Soft look with a soft style purse
Even a formal purse can work with casual  shoes.

This formal channel style bag works with these flats, since the flats are shiny and have a dressy look to them.

Coordinate your hardware:

It will be  easier to make choices and you will feel more pulled together if you keep your shoes, jewelry and handbag hardware all the same finish. (e.g. silver jewelry, silver, buckles on shoes, silver zipper on purse)

3 bags 1 shoe

Christmas in July…My favorite things at Marshalls!

Getting a wheel of a deal while off-price shopping!

I know so many women that have found “treasures” at off-price stores like T.J. Max and Marshalls. So, I thought it would be fun to tell you about what I (JoJami) found on my recent trip to Marshalls, over the weekend.

For me personally, I find the clothes shopping at these types of stores overwhelming. You have to be a very patient and talented lady to pick through the racks of clothes to come up with “pearls” in the waves of mix matched sea kelp! Yes, I have had my luck at finding the odd skirt or workout top, over the years but over all, it is not the clothes but the awesome section of soaps, exotic foods and home appliances, that I go ga ga over!

Moreover, there are tons of gift ideas to grab now and put away until Christmas and some for personal use now!

1)Pamper me, I’m all over it… The Soap Section.

These stores have awesome sections that are very organized with the most beautiful and lovely soaps, face creams and other products that pamper. Every few months I go in and head straight for the soap section to replenish my stash. For $3.99 I can splurge and have a huge bar of the most lovely lavender or Almond scented soap to enjoy in my shower or tub! They always have a great selection of different scents, so you just have to put your sniffer to work and find the ones that call to you!

2) Feel like taking a trip to Europe, check out the exotic food section.

When I am ready to replace my extra virgin olive oil, this is where I go. You will get a great price on it and while I’m there I love their jams from England and other exotic places.

3) Bring out your inner cook, Kitchen gadgets and more…

The other day, I needed to replace my tea kettle and get another mixing bowl…so what better place than their home section to do so. I found a gorgeous stainless steel Cuisinart kettle for less than $24.00! Meanwhile, I found a great cutting board to replace my old beat up one at home!

4) The Shoe section (Need we say more???)

Actually this section is pretty much a hit or miss as well. To this day, one of my favorite pair of shoes came from this section, but you have to be super picky or you will end up with one more pair of shoes that will be collecting dust.

5)Jet setting this summer? You gotta see Travel section:

This section must be new, since I have not really seen it before, but I loved it! At my store in Wilmington, Delaware, there was an entire kiosk filled with all sorts of travel goodies, like travel pillows, plastic compression bags, even those “fuzzy” hangers that are all the rage!  The prices were all discounted on these hard to find items, that you don’t want to have wait to pick up at the airport!

So, we want to hear from you… What are  some of your favorite things you get at discount stores?

Looking Fabulous after 40, in Paris!

Lucky me, (JoJami) was off to Paris for Mother’s Day and just got back!

My mother JoBee and JoJami in Paris!

Paris is one of my all time favorite cities and I have not been back in a few years so I was super excited to see what women over 40 were wearing these days!

Here we are…my mother in her new Cop Copine jacket and me in my orange, BCBG  jacket that I bought last month (see post)…This jacket ended up being my everyday go to piece.

Even though it was May, it can still be cold there, so everyone was usually bundled up the entire time and layering and throwing on a scarf for warmth and style!

We found a charming and colorful scarf shop called Mandalas, and picked up a few there! (JoBee has her new scarf on!)

One morning, I stopped these two Fashionista’s for a quick photo shoot.

Ended up they were from Seattle, WA on a girlfriends trip to shop vintage. (The gal on the left was on a quest to find a wedding dress, Marilyn, on the right is a jewelry desinger!).

Gals on the street!

These two gals were looking stylish for being past 40 and 50! I was so surprised to find out that they were not French but Americans! They were sporting the all black look, that is so prevalent over there!

Vintage Prada

I saw shiny metallic shoes, handbags and tops, all over the place…on the young and not so young!

Talent and Style:

Chunky statement jewelry! Bigger is better on the streets of Paris. This is Marilyn’s own design, from her wholesale company, MB Beads!

Sequins go from day to evening:

It is hard to see in this photo, but under her lightweight ruffled jacket, she had on a gorgeous black sequin top that she had layered with a black long sleeved t shirt. It was one of their vintage finds…

Leggings and low heels:

How FAB are these little low heeled shoes with her leggings!

Dark skinny jeans and comfy flats:

Paris Hilton flats look perfectly great on her with her skinny dark jeans and sparkle top!

The best accessory is always a pooch!:

I could not believe all the women running around in high heels… This wonderful, Age-mazing gal came into the restaurant with her Burberry trench, oversised handbag, high heeled black pumps, large sunglasses, leggings and a dog!

She had just had her hair done at a local salon, it was short and very sassy! JUST LOVE the entire look!

Even the food is dressed up!

The women were lined up in all the pastry shops. How they stay so thin is a mystery to me!

This yummy cake was topped with sweet, wild forest strawberries.

Mother of the Bride Shoes

Our Ebook will help you celebrate the big day in Style!

If your daughter or son is getting married and you’re not sure how to make the transition from sneakers to stilettos, then here are 10 Dos and Dont’s for choosing the perfect pair of Mother of the Bride shoes.

1. Don’t buy dyeable shoes Perfectly matching the color of your shoes to your mother of the bride gown is very passé. Plus, when your feet sweat, your feet will turn color.

2. Do break your shoes in before the wedding Vacuum in them. Walk up stairs in them. Otherwise you’ll be walking around the reception with big blisters.

3. Don’t change into rubber or plastic flip flops during the reception, or even worse, go barefoot Is the dance floor a dormitory shower, or the boardwalk? Change into a lower heeled formal shoe if you must, but respect the formality of the event.

4. Don’t choose mother of the bride shoes with boxy or squared toes These heavy, clunky looking styles do nothing to elongate your leg, and are best left for more casual outfits. Fine occasions call for fine shoes.

5. Don’t buy shoes that are not your size! Too many women fall in love with a shoe that’s a half size too big and end up stepping out of it, or they buy a size too small hoping they’ll be able ignore the pain. You can’t. If you really can’t get the store to locate it in the correct size, move on!

6. Don’t wear a heel you may slip out of, or fall off A mule or a 5” stiletto heel will give you rolled ankles and swollen feet if you are not used to wearing them. Let’s make sure the limo, not the ambulance, is what transports you from the ceremony to reception!

7. Don’t opt for price over quality when buying Mother of the Bride shoes Expensive, well-made shoes are worth the investment. Scrimp on less important things. (We won’t tell anyone those earrings are faux-pearl!)

8. Do pick up a copy of our ebook Tweak Your Chic- Mother of the Bride and Look Fabulous after 40 at the Wedding!

Do you ever get Buyer’s remorse?

Have you ever been shopping and then on the way home, you start getting that guilty feeling?

Have you ever gotten home and hid your purchase, or vow to take it back the next day?

Did you know that you are not alone?

How do I know this?  Because it happens to me and lots of other women I talk to every day!!

Buyer’s Remorse comes in so many forms…

  • We go to  SALE and come home with 3 of the same tops in 3 different colors and wish we hadn’t.
  • You’re at a fun special Girl’s night out and you buy 4 different purses in all different styles. Why?
  • You are at the store and think, “I have been looking for ______and here it is, I have to have it!” You get home and ask yourself, “What was I thinking?”

Recently, I (JoJami) experienced buyer’s remorse. With spring here, I went looking for a great looking new flat shoe that I could throw on and run around in;one that was stylish yet, comfortable.

While shopping with my husband one day, I tried on a pair from a store that I do not usually shop in.

My husband took one look and said, “Those don’t look like you AT ALL!!”  Enough said. I certainly did not buy them, and I was sure glad I didn’t. A few days later I was in Philadelphia at one of my favorite shoe stores (Head Start Shoes) and found a gorgeous pair that fit the bill!  They were stylish  and comfortable, but  there was one problem…they were expensive!

I bought them anyway, justifying the fact that I had tried others on in the past that never seemed right, and kept telling myself that these were just perfect.

OH BOY…..I felt so guilty all the way home!  Just Terrible!! Buyer’s remorse!

I felt like maybe I had made a mistake…but I eventually got over it.

SO…the moral of this story is:

We all have times when we are not feeling totally confident in our choices and we start to experience buyer’s remorse. If you can just hold off returning an item for a day or two when you are feeling less anxious and less guilty, then then you can decide if the purchase is really right. After a little time I decided my expensive flats were really comfortable and stylish, and now I am a happy Glam Gal!

I adore my new flats and every time I put them on, I feel comfortable in them and they go with all my clothes. They were worth the splurge because I wear them all the time and do not feel the need to buy anything else, and I will have these shoes for several years to come!

The bottom line is:

  • Now that we are over 40, we need to stop shopping like we did when we were young.
  • We need to buy less quantity and buy better quality things that we love and adore!
  • Also, don’t be alarmed when you finally buy something that you really like and it is a little more expensive than you usually spend, that you feel bad about it at first.
  • If you buy the right things, you will be happy in the end.

Should women over 40 wear Gladiator Sandals?

Most gladiator sandals are not as extreme as this

Over at Cafe Mom they posted the question Should women over 40 wear gladiator sandals?

We’ve got to to tell you.. we  were very surprised they even asked this question. (And surprised at some of the answers!)

Gladiator sandals were new a couple of years back, but now they are mainstream. Why wouldn’t a woman over 40 wear them? They’re nothing racy about most gladiator sandals. Of course, there’s always  extreme versions out there, like the high heeled, knee high dominatrix types worn by 19 year old models who pair them with mini skirts, or skimpy shorts. But really, how many do you see of those off the runway?

The Gladiator question caught our eye because it was kind of like asking, should women over 40 wear high heels?  Of course you should, if you want to.  You don’t stop being stylish because of a number. Why not look fashionable and sexy no matter what your age?

Whether it’s high heels or gladiators, the trick is  to  looking chic is to simply find a pair that is a little more more refined and tasteful. You can get away with a wilder, crazy version of a shoe when you are young and experimental, but after 40 you need a tamer pair, or you’ll look tough and desperate.

Here are some of our favorite picks for gladiators:

Basic and Beautiful:

JoJami has a pair of shoes almost exactly like this. She finds snakeskin is best paired with a solid color rather than a print. This shoe is best complements gals with thin ankles because of the ankle strap.(Nordstrom)

Relaxed and realistic:

Doesn’t this shoe look comfy? Pewter is a fantastic choice for a metallic because it has a bit of shine like silver, but is much more understated, and therefore more elegant. This classy sandal dress up any outfit.(Nordstrom)

Refined Strappy:

We love this Tory Burch nude colored sandal because it’s won’t draw attention to your lily white legs in the spring, and it will also look fantastic when you get a tan.

One piece of advice before you buy sandals with lots of straps. Wear them around the stores for a good 10 minutes as we all have different feet and some straps can cut into toes and fleshy areas of the feet. Comfort needs to be key! (Saks)

Jeweled Glaidator:We like jewelry on shoes if it is done right. This is a beautiful example of a shoe that  is subtle but powerful.(Nordstrom)
Soft and Stylish:

Pewter again( see how popular it is) These soft Vera Wang sandals have a very luxurious look and feel like they would wrap comfortably around you feet like a blanket.(Nordstrom)

Buckle Up:

(Deb)When my son was about 2 years old, I wore a pair of sandals with lots of buckles like this, and  my son said, “Oh look mom, your shoes have seatbelts!”  (Nordstrom)

Gold Standard:

Simple, gorgeous. You’ll look like an Egyptian queen in these.(Nordstrom)

<
Grecian Goddess:

The perfect mix of fashion forward and elegance.(Nordstrom)

Finally, life doesn’t have to be hell on heels!

Danna Davis had a problem. She was tired of  having of having sore feet after wearing her fashionable high heels.

That spurred the idea to start designing her own line of shoes that were so chic they are being worn by celebrities walking down the red carpet!

These shoes are not just pretty, they are as comfortable as anything you could buy  from Naturalizers.

Although these shoes are pricey, we are so glad to see designers are finally hearing our cries! Please design shoes that we can look good in and still be comfortable!

Clogs that pass the fashion test this Spring!

OK OK…you ladies are sure passionate about your clogs!

We recently wrote a post to discuss whether clogs were in fashion and you left us lots and lots of comments.

Many of you wrote that you loved the comfort of a clog, while others thought they were “hideous”!

Well, after causing so much fuss, I (JoJami) thought I would take a look around and find out if there were  any clogs that I might actually wear.  I happen to be out in Aspen right now and it is amazing how different women dress when the weather is really messy most of the winter. I definitely  have been seeing more boots, but I’m sure as the snow melts many of these women are going to be sporting clogs since this is such a casual environment.

Here is an interesting article on how to wear clogs that show a few of the new “fashion” clogs. As you can see, even these skinny young girls do not look all that great in them, so can you imagine us over 40 gals!

However,  if you  still want to try to wear the clog as a fashion trend this Spring, then here are some of my picks! (Deborah says she has yet to find any clog she finds attractive! )

These clogs are from Zappos.

Tassels are everywhere this Spring, so why not try them on your clogs!

The nude color and simple design makes this clog a good choice

These clog inspired shoes would work well with both pants or a skirt!

Are Clogs Fabulous after 40?

This basic clog should be updated with a boot

Hi Glam Gals,

Are clogs a fashion do or don’t for women 40 +?  Thanks …..Nicole

Hi Nicole,

Deborah and I had an interesting chat about clogs today. I (JoJami) was commenting on how many women in the states (especially back east) seem to really like to wear clogs. Deborah, who is from Toronto was shocked! “Nobody ever wears them here!”

So then, of course, came the big question…. Are clogs fabulous after 40?

We know this is going to be a controversial topic, but we are standing by our opinion…

This is just too clunky to look fabulous

NO! Clogs are not fabulous, unless you wear them for teaching, nursing, gardening, or inside as slippers. You might get away with them when you’re off to Yoga, but even then it’s “iffy”. (PLEASE NOTE: THOSE WITH FOOT PROBLEMS ARE AN EXCEPTION!)

Why? It was hard for us to pin  down exactly what we don’t like about them. … they are comfortable, easy to slide on and off, but yet neither one of us would be caught dead in them.

Looks like clogs will be coming into fashion this Spring, and we  want to warn you that they have the potential to make those who are over 40 look frumpy.

You can wear these under jeans, but why not wear an entire boot that will have you looking more up to date!

So, in case you have a pair or two, we would like to share with you the Glam Gals top 5 reasons why you should put away your clogs:

  • If you are wearing clogs, then you will need the appropriate outfit.  That means you are wearing bootcut jeans or pants and are very casual. Never wear them with a skirt or dress!
  • If you hate to part with them, have a good look in the mirror when you put them on with an outfit. Does it make you feel updated?
  • They might be comfortable and easy to wear, but there are other options out there that will make you look much younger!
  • The clunkier and chunkier the clog, the more matronly the look
  • Clogs with the wrong outfit, can tend to make you look older than you are!

Now we can’t  give clogs a bad rap and not show you some examples what to replace them with. Here’s a fresh take on the clog:

Suede Boot:

This boot is the perfect alternative to a clog.

It is much more stylish because it is finer and more streamlined, yet still gives you a little height like a clog.

The suede makes it super comfortable and warm and goes with jeans and casual pants.

www.shoe-store.net (style:blondecorina)

The Bootie:

These high style booties are all the rage, you will be totally updated in them! Great with a straight legged pant or jean and can even be worn with dresses and opaque hose.

These boots are from Nordstrom

Side Zip casual boot with low heel:

You can wear these like you would a clog. They are casual but still comfy. With the side zipper they are still easy to get on and off.

Found at Nordstrom

Pull on low boot:

This pull on boot can be casual or great for work. The leather makes it a little dressier, but the elastic makes it easy to get out the door in a flash.

These bots are at Zappos

Happy New Year to YOU, being Fabulous after 40!

The Glam Gals (Deborah and JoJami) would like to thank all of you wonderful ladies out there for reading our blog, writing in with your comments and for getting out there and trying new styles and products!

Cheers to you and hoping you have enjoyed all our tips and tricks to keeping looking Fabulous!

We are excited about the new year and will be bringing you lots more ideas and ways to update your style!

Here are our New Years Eve tips you can try tonight:

  • If you plan to wear black, find some way to bring some color to your outfit! A colorful necklace, pin, scarf or shoes will do the trick!
  • Keep your lipstick handy! Make sure to stop in the middle of the night and refresh those lips. Bare lips can make you look faded and older!
  • Make sure to wear your shapewear! No matter what your size, don’t leave home with out your Spanx. Shapewear will smooth you out and keep pantylines at bay!
  • Instead of clear hose, try some nude fishnets! Your loved one will find it super sexy if you pull on the fishnets instead of the plain old panyhose!
  • Make sure you hair is shiney! Run out to the drugstore and find a can of spay shine (we are not saying “sparkles”, just shine). Nothing like a healthy looking head of hair to make you look fresh!

Have fun!

Boots for those with foot problems

We recently posted a letter from a reader who can’t wear heels because of foot problems and wanted to know if she could wear leggings with clunky flats.

When we mentioned that instead, she should try some flat boots, she ran out and found a pair at Nordstrom’s!

Now leggings and jeans are fine, but what if she wants to wear a skirt? Since these boots are very casual they will be look best with pants…

These flat boots from Nordstroms will be comfy for those with foot problems!

However, here is a skirt that will work with them too.  You could also try a casual dress, like a sweater dress.

Don’t forget to make sure to find opaque hose (not sheer) or tights that match the boots. This will give the leg a longer look.

We went to Boden.com and Spiegel and found lots of great casual styles to choose from! At Boden, you can even “try” the clothes on a fantasy model and see what they would look like on a person!

Here is another combination we liked:

How not to look frumpy in a clunkier shoe

Hi, Deborah and JoJami,

I would love your advice on how not to look frumpy when I have to wear clunker shoes because of foot problems. Because of an old skiing injury, I have been unable to wear heels since I was in my 20’s, which makes it hard to look and feel sexy, or even professional, when I want to dress up. I’m limited to certain brands of shoes recommended by my foot doctor and orthopedic surgeon so it’s not just a matter of being able to wear flats.

For example, I’d love to wear leggings this Fall as shown in the photo on your website, but I can’t wear heels.

I’d appreciate any advice you can give me. Many thanks!

- Nancy

Dear Nancy,

We sure wish we could wave a magic wand with your problem, but it is not that simple. However, your problem is one that many women face. We get letters all the time from women that can not wear heels.

That being said, you can still look fabulous but just have to try styles that might not be the latest trends.

The good news for you is that with styles changing so often, almost anything goes when it comes to pant styles.

When you are stuck having to wear clunky shoes, there are several things to make sure you do not do. First off, is leggings will be out of the question for you. Since the style is really a “pencil” shape, no matter what you do, legging will just not look good with a clunky shoe. Instead, you will need to opt for any pant that has a wide leg and (or) has some flair at the bottom.

This will still be stylish, and you can wear almost any shoe. Also, there are some great brands of shoes out there that do sell some comfortable shoes that don’t look orthopedic.

Here are some styles from Zappos.com that we suggest:

taryn rose

These Taryn Rose flats are comfy and stylish

Actually if you can wear this type of flat shoe you could still wear it with a skinny jean and look great!

This is good with pants only!

This is good with pants only!

Once you have to start wearing more orthopedic looking shoes like these, you can easily see that style starts going out the window.

Another simple but elegant choice

However once again, if you wear these with the right style of well-fitted pants, you will still look great!

New trend: Thigh High Boots

Hello Glam Gals,thigh high boots

Do you think the new thigh high boots for Fall 2009 are age appropriate for women over 40?

Thank you for your help.

~Jenifer G.

Hi Jennifer!

Great question, since we are seeing that thigh high boots are a big trend for fall. This is tricky because there are a lot of variables here. The thigh high boot is a very young and sexy look, so it is hard to pull it off after 40. However, we have seen women of all ages pulling off this trend, but it is a delicate and tricky one for sure.

If you are excited to try this new trend, here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. You should  be on the thin side have slim legs and thighs to wear this look.
  2. You need to be careful on how to pair your boots with the right outfit. Tight jeans or longer skirts are your best bet to get the right effect.
  3. You will need to be picky about the style of boot your choose, otherwise it will look like you’re trying too hard. (More like you are wearing a costume than a trend.)
  4. The fit and style of your outfit is key – anything too tight and revealing could look smutty.

We imagine that the women over 40 that could pull this off, are on the creative and festive sort!  However, if you really do want to partake in this trend, we recommend you

  • Choose a  simple style that does not have a lot of laces or hardware.
  • Stay away from patent or shiny thigh high boots, or you’ll look like a hooker.
  • Be sure to  wear dark opaque hose so there’s no leg between the hem of your dress and the boot. Here’s a good example of  flat heeled boot from zappos.com:

brown thigh high boots

Bottom line: Are you wanting to try out a new trend, pick up a younger guy or just channeling your inner biker chic?

You weill need some confidence and good dose of style to pull this look off now that your over 40, or you will end up looking silly instead of chic.

Are you thinking of trying this look out this fall?  If so, we want to hear your comments below!

Do comfortable shoes have to be ugly?

comfortable?.. perhaps, but ugly!

comfortable?.. perhaps, but ugly!

Here is another letter from one of our readers:

Dear Glam Gals,

Here’s the dilemma:  I seem to have managed to pare my wardrobe down to good classics that fit me, an excellent assortment of accessories, jewelry and a few good purses…BUT…what to do about shoes? I find it hard to find ones that are comfortable!

Thanks for your help.

Laura

Hi Laura,

We do agree that it can be a challenge to find shoes that are both comfortable and have some style.

If you are trying to update your shoe wardrobe for fall, we have found that there are reliable brands out there like Naturalizers that have styles that can be both comfortable and stylish.

For a casual flat, try crocodile loafer under a pair of wide legged trousers:

Fashion gets real with stylist Paul Podlucky

Paul Podlcuky- the voice of sanity

Paul Podlucky- the voice of sanity

We just stood up and shouted “YES! to a new beauty guru we’ve discovered and LOVE because he is the voice of sanity in an insane fashion world!

Wowowow has an inspiring interview with Paul Podlucky who says, “I think magazines show us too many skinny girls with long one-length hair wearing $25,000 worth of clothes, and I’m sick of it. None of us looks like that. And that’s not who we are. So who keeps telling us that’s what we are supposed to look and be like? That is impossible.”

Paul is all for starting a magazine for real women with real figures wearing beautiful affordable clothes.

We couldn’t agree more. We’ve been shouting this same message ever since we started our blog. Let’s be real. We’d love nothing more than to show you pics of 40+ women looking fashionable in clothes you can actually buy, but since we are a homespun blog, we don’t have the money to go out and create photo shoots like this.

Instead we are stuck using pictures of skinny young girls in clothes we’re suggesting would look good on a 40+ woman. You have to be able to visualize. That’s for sure. When will retailers and magazines wake up?

Here's a real woman looking Fabulous after 40!

Here's a real woman looking Fabulous after 40!

To balance this out we have started taking some photos of  Age-mazing© women on the street, and now we need your help.

Ladies, if you are over 40 & stylish, or you see a woman over 40 out there looking really fashionable, please, snap her picture and send it to us. We’d love to post these photos to inspire you!

< Here’s one we just took. This gal is the manager of car dealership who just lost 60 pounds and ran her first marathon. She got her dress at TJ Max, then switched out the  belt with one she found on sale.

She’s paired her dress with a great pair of cork wedges from Nine West. Doesn’t she look great?

Age-mazing gal we met at Bergdorfs (on the street in NYC part 2)

Well, as you might have heard, I, (JoJami) was in NYC last week when the rain totally blew my plans to visit the Botanical Gardens, however… not one to complain, I decided to check out the shopping!

When in NYC I always love to check out Bergdorf Goodman for just the plain decadence and to check in on what the creme de la creme of society is buying.  With classic labels such as Chanel and Armani surrounding you on one side and the hottest newcomers on the other, the entire experience can really get your creative juices flowing and have you seriously contemplating getting a second job!

Anyway….I digress… what I wanted to share with you was the highlight of my BG experience was chatting with one their sales associates. She was super friendly and looked so gorgeous I had to ask her if her dress was a Missoni!

How old do you think she is?

How old do you think she is?

YES it was but she got it last year! (BTW, She is 52 and a grandmother). She had updated it with a big chunky necklace from Anthropology and the shoes are from Zara.

Zappos – Fab shoe selection for over 40

The older we get, the pickier we get about the shoes we wear. They have to be comfy for our tired tootsies, but still look cool and stylish too. (not like we’re headed for the senior’s centre.)

Finding the perfect shoe after 40 is tough and that’s why Zappos has been such a hit. They’re  famous  for their huge inventory of sizes, styles, widths (AA-Wides), and super customer service (free shipping, both ways). They’ve even been named one of  the top 30 companies to work for.

Here’s a few of our current favorite styles! ….
