Boho Bell Sleeve Shift Dress – Perfect for Vacation

I pop down to Florida a couple of times a year, so I’m always on the lookout for dresses that are cute, summery, and easy to wear. Today I’m partnering with Chicos to bring you my latest find, this cheery bohon shift dress!

I call this my happy dress because it’s so cute and perky, I can’t help but smile when I wear it.  I took it down to Florida with me on the March break, and I wore it everywhere.

When I’m on vacation, I like wearing bright colors. Forget black and gray. Orange, red, yellow, turquoise, green – all those gorgeous tropical colors make me feel like I’m having fun! (Where’s my pina colada?)

Can you believe the Art Nouveau print on this dress? It’s so intricate and very cool. I  love the way this elegant gold leaf pendant shows it off!

This sunny morning I was down at Deerfield Beach having blueberry pancakes when I asked my son to snap a few shots for the blog. It was such a gorgeous day, and I just had to throw off my shoes and dip my toes in the warm sand.

I felt vibrant and alive walking along the beach in this cute, casual sundress. It was almost like I was back in the ’70s, but at the same time, I felt very modern too (can you relate?)

What I really love about this dress is the style. It’s a shift dress which means you just slip it over your head, let it slide past your waist, and skim over your hips. It’s soft and stretchy, and it feels comfy and loose, but it has just enough of a nip-in at the waist to give you a perfect shape.

This dress has a very playful vibe, don’t you think? It would be perfect for any hotspot, like the Caribbean, Mexico, a cruise or wear it back home in the heat of summer!

And what about those bell sleeves? Beautiful!! Take it from me, once you wear them you will become sleeve obsessed.  These wide, floaty sleeves made me feel so feminine and fresh. They’re great if you are looking for a style lift!

This dress is also super easy to pack. You can roll it up and toss it in your suitcase, then unroll it when you arrive, and you are good to go right away. No creasing, no fuss. Dress it up for dinner or keep it plain and simple.  This would even make a great swimsuit cover-up because it is so light and easy to wear.

I didn’t mention my shoes. I like to wear this dress with rope wedge sandals ( I’m carrying them here), but it would also look super cute with pretty, flat, strappy sandals.

There it is! I think I will rename this my Boho – Boomer- Beach Babe dress (LOL!)

I like the length too. Short, but not too short. ( I have long legs, so it may be a bit shorter on me than it is on you). Petite gals, come in petite sizes too!

That’s my happy dress. Maybe it will make you happy too. This dress has sold out but I found a very similar dress here.

  1. Hi! I love this dress. I looked at Chico’s online, and it was on sale. I decided to think about it overnight, and the next day, I got a 40% off total purchase coupon from Chico’s! It was fate, so I had to order it. As a Passport member, I even got an additional 5% discount. The dress arrived today, and I love it! I modeled it for my husband; his eyes got big, and I got a Wow. Thanks for sharing! For the people asking about sizing: I’m 5′ 3″ tall and usually wear a size 10. I ordered a Chico’s size 1. The dress fits perfectly. The length is just above my knees, and the sleeves are even the right length. Additional Info — I’m 67!

  2. Deborah,

Just curious to know how tall you are. I love this dress, but I’m 5’9,” and I struggle to find fun, cute dresses that don’t border on the edge of obscene. :)

  3. Just curious how tall you are so I can guess how the hem will hit me. I usually wear a 6 or 8, depending on the tightness of the dress. I am 5’4″. Not sure which Chico is sizing to go with! Thx

  4. I love love love this – especially the sleeves! The colors are gorgeous, and it’s such a cute length. I have recently been following your blog – I love your style!

  5. I am so happy to see you in this short dress! I’m an image consultant and excellent at seeing my clients’ styles and beauty, but I occasionally question myself on a few things. I bought a similar length dress with bell sleeves that I LOVE, but I was wondering just a little about the length’s appropriateness. We are similar in age, leg length, and body type, so I’m encouraged by how it works for us both! What a fun day you had for brunch and beach walking, too!

    1. Hi Dana, So glad you dropped by. I’m sure you’ll agree that there are a lot of silly rules out there like, you have to wear your skirts a certain length after a certain age. I have a girlfriend who is 68 and has terrific legs. She has worn dresses like this (a few inches above the knee) and looks elegant and fabulous. I think it’s more about what flatters your particular body, where you are wearing your outfit, and how comfortable you feel in it. Feeling confident is key to looking fabulous no matter what you wear. I’m glad I could be a mirror for you. I need that sometimes too. Cheers, Deborah

  6. It would be great if there were a more prominent link right to the page to buy that dress! I had to look twice and figure out that “Shop the Look” showed a tiny picture of that dress, and then voila, there it was. It would have been even harder on my phone, I’m guessing. We are over 40, lol! And 50 and 60!
My dream is one store, virtual or bricks, that I could go to and find lots of swingy looks that flatter what I’ve got left. Chico’s is good, but there are many shapeless clothes in there; we need to accent the positive!
By the way, even typing in your comment box, the font is very small and light gray. It would be a boon to many to make it more easily visible. 7. I love this dress on you! Thanks for modeling it for us. I am 5’9″, but I will see if it looks good on me too. I love your posts!

    1. Hi Martine, This would look great on a tall gal. If you find it too short (which I don’t think you will), it would look fabulous with jeweled flat sandals. Very upscale casual!
