Fun Graphic Sweaters for Women Over 40
What is a Graphic Sweater?
If you’re not familiar with graphic sweaters, they’re similar to graphic tees. A graphic sweater is a knit top featuring a graphic design. The graphic can be a logo, a word or phrase, or a picture.
Graphic sweaters are meant to be casual and playful, conveying a message. A glance at a shirt like this, and you instantly understand what the wearer is trying to convey.

What Does my Graphic Sweater say?
If you haven’t already guessed, my new graphic sweater from LOFT says ‘I Love Paris!’ Isn’t it cool how they’ve arranged the letters in the word “Paris” to look like the Eiffel Tower? It’s so eye-catching!
How to Style a Graphic Sweater
You could easily wear this cute graphic sweater with jeans, but I decided to build on the French theme and dress it up a bit with these straight-leg Ponte Pants.
I also added an elegant, structured shoulder bag and these chic, Chanel-inspired spectator flats. My gold Bleecker mini drop earrings are by Dean Davidson.

Are Graphic Sweaters Age Appropriate?
Glam Gals, age-appropriate is a bad word these days! There’s no fashion rule saying you have to stop wearing graphic sweaters (or tees) at a certain age. It’s more about your personality and how you feel about them.
I always prefer a more elegant look and wouldn’t wear a graphic sweater with a grungy, rebellious print or rude message.
As for the graphic sweaters with flowers, rainbows, or teenage slang, they’re too junior for me.

This Paris sweater, however, is fine in my books. It’s a very classic style that has an elegant, neutral taupe and black color scheme, and I love the clever graphic design. This sweater is casual and fun, yet it doesn’t look silly at any age.
Here are a few more graphic sweaters that are trending now and might work for you.

Graphic sweaters aren’t meant to be worn in too serious settings. This Alpine skier sweater would be perfect and so cute if you went to a ski lodge this winter.

A vacation is the perfect time to wear a playful top like this. This Beach graphic sweater would be cute strolling down by the ocean.

Bellissima Sweater
My favorite graphic sweaters are made from cashmere and feature elegant sayings embroidered on them, like this one that reads ‘Bellimissa.’ Everyday sayings in different languages are always popular, such as: C’est La Vie (embellished with pearls), Merci, Bonjour, and Ciao.

This striped Friday graphic sweatshirt is cute for around the house or relaxing on the weekend.

Graphic sweaters with stars are always popular. I recently tried on this black and brown Stars sweater by Vince Camuto.

Finally, for dog lovers, Ralph Lauren has released a collection of graphic sweaters featuring dogs—a Beagle, a Dachshund, and I’m not sure what the last dog is above. Like all Ralph Lauren, they have an old-money look and feel.
Do you like Graphic Sweaters?
Whether you wear a dog, a phrase, or a star graphic on your chest, it really doesn’t matter. A cute graphic sweater speaks volumes and sends the message that you’re a gal who isn’t afraid to have a little fun with fashion!

I agree about the placement of the bow. Sometimes, I think that designers forget that not all of us are 5’11”, wear a size 0, and have no breasts! I think the placement of the bow would be fine on a flat-chested woman, but certainly not on my 34DDD self. I am slender, but I have a large chest. It is annoying to have to pass on cute lady jackets that have pockets atop the breasts or sweaters that are so cropped they hit at my ribcage instead of my waist because they are made for a woman with no breasts. I know that not all styles are for all women, but I see an awful lot that is made for a pre-adolescent, flat-chested figure! I would love to see more clothing for us, especially for slender, big-chested gals.
Hi Kathy, You make a great point about the lady jackets and cropped sweaters! And just imagining that bow sweater on a large-busted woman like yourself, makes me laugh. The bow would be right over your breasts like a bullseye! Thanks for dropping by. I’m curious now, so next time I’m over at LOFT and if the sweater is still there, I’ll try it on and take a photo. Cheers, Deborah
The dog on the Ralph Lauren sweater appears to be one of the Pointer breed.
Hi Danielle, Thanks for tagging the dog as a Pointer breed. That makes sense since that sweater has kind of an Old English hunting feel to it! Cheers, Deborah
