I love everyday outfits that are quick and effortless to put together but also look polished. This may sound like a tall order, but it’s very easy if you have a mixed-media sweater in your wardrobe.

Layered Mixed Media Sweaters: Chic Ways to Wear Them
What’s mixed media? It’s the new fashion buzzword for mixing two or more fabrics to create a garment. For example, you could have a knit vest with eyelet sleeves or a leather top with knit sleeves.
The most popular type of mixed-media top this fall is a layered sweater, like this cute camel and black layered sweater I am wearing here.
This is a fabulous 2 in 1 sweater that combines a knit top with a white cotton collar, cuffs and shirttail cleverly sewn right onto the sweater. You get a layered look without having to actually layer.
This mixed-media sweater from Loft is so chic. I love the classy mix of camel and black, the fine knit, and the demure, French-inspired look. Add straight-leg Ponte pants, slingback flats, and a cute, small structured bag, and you have a casual, ladylike look.
Mixed-media sweaters like this are not only easy to wear but also very classy because they are perfectly coordinated.
The layered look also creates a beautiful texture, making your outfit more interesting. Also, whereas a shirt under a sweater is often bulky because it rides up, with a mixed-media sweater, there’s no shirt to ride up. Everything stays put.
Finally, a mixed-media sweater is more creative than a plain sweater or a plain shirt.
Other Ways to Style a Mixed Media Sweater
The way I’m wearing my mixed media top is just one way to style this kind of sweater.

If you want to look even more casual, you can go with a thicker knit sweater. Wear it with sneakers or, even better, chunky loafers to balance out the weight of the sweater. Add a cute jacket and a crossbody for a sporty look.
Another great, dressier look is to wear a mixed-media sweater with faux leather pants and a jacket or traditional, elegant coat. Here’s one from Ann Taylor that is very classy.
Here’s a more preppy look with a striped shirt as part of the sweater. This two-in-one sweater is from Chico’s.

You can also wear this kind of look casually over the holidays. This mixed-media layered sweater has tiny rhinestones down the arms for a casual Glam Gal look.
Other Types of Mixed Media Sweaters
Layered sweaters are just one kind of mixed-media sweater. You’ll also find:
Layered Vests
These are very classic and nice. You could even roll up the sleeves on this houndstooth two-in-one top to make it look more relaxed.
Layered Cardigans
This layered cardigan from Karen Kane looks polished, and the color is great!
Layered Crewnecks with ruffled shirts
There are lots of these, which are a change from the straight button-up shirts. For those gals who like a romantic look, a layered sweater with a ruffled neck works.
Like all trends, there are a few versions that are always a little wonky. I’ve seen some layered sweaters that remind me of the time my then-five-year-old decided to give herself a haircut. See what I mean here. It’s not the best look, in my opinion!
Anyway, I thought you’d get a giggle from that!
More Layered Sweaters
Here are a few more layered mixed-media sweaters that would be a great addition to your core Fall and winter wardrobe!
My mother used to LOVE mixed media sweaters like these. She wore them all the time with dress slacks and got voted “best dressed” at her senior center. :) She liked how easily she could look put together.
Hi Carolyn, Well, they seem to be making a comeback for all ages! I like the look of them and they are not as hot as wearing real layers! Thanks for dropping by to tell us about your stylish mom! Cheers, Deborah
