Spring & Summer

Talbots Summer Style: 3 Easy Outfits That Feel Like Vacation

You don’t have to jet off to Nantucket or the Amalfi Coast to capture that carefree summer feeling. Sometimes, all it takes is the right outfit.

That’s exactly what I love about these three looks from Talbots’ latest summer collection. They have an easy, breezy feel that’s polished yet relaxed, and they make you feel like you’re on vacation—even if your plans are nothing more than lunch with friends, a backyard barbecue, or an evening stroll by the water.

From a flowy blue-and-white floral maxi to a cheerful coral linen dress and crisp linen separates, these are the kinds of outfits that make getting dressed on a hot summer day feel easy, stylish, and fun.

Outfit 1:Blue and White Floral Maxi Dress

I love wearing maxi dresses in the summer, especially on weekends, because they feel loungy without looking sloppy. This pretty blue-and-white floral one is especially easy to wear because the fabric is so super soft and comfortable.

I also think a unique bag can make an outfit, which is why I really like this chunky, knotted-cord hobo bag. It’s interesting, adds wonderful texture, and plays up the relaxed nautical feel.

Your first thought might be to wear white sandals with a dress like this, but I find these buckle metallic thong sandals look fresher and more modern. The silver adds a nice touch of shimmer in the sun and elevates the outfit without detracting from the beautiful print.

Outfit 2: Linen Pintuck Shift Dress

You know how much I love my pinks and corals, so it’s no surprise this dress immediately caught my eye. The color is so warm and flattering, and I swear shades like this make your skin look a little more sun-kissed—even if you haven’t been on vacation yet!

I was also pleasantly surprised by the fit. Sometimes linen dresses can feel boxy or shapeless, but this one isn’t. It’s cool and breezy with just enough structure to skim your body nicely without clinging. The length is great too, and I think it’s one of those easy styles that would flatter just about everyone.

And can we talk about the lobster tote bag? I couldn’t resist it. The beaded detail is so on trend this season, and that cute little lobster makes the outfit feel playful and summery. Great for carrying books, suntan lotion, and your beach towel too!

I added some gold and silver earrings and a bracelet, and paired everything with gold sandals. The silver thong sandals I wore earlier would look just as pretty with this dress, too.

Outfit 3: Washed Linen Pants and Embroidered Seersucker Top

Some summer days call for linen pants, and these washed, wide-leg linen ones are especially nice. They’re lightweight, soft, and incredibly comfortable, and I love the patch pockets because they give them a fresh, modern feel.

And the seersucker top was a fun surprise. I haven’t worn seersucker in ages, and I’d forgotten how fresh and summery it can look. The blue-and-white stripes, with touches of red embroidery, feel crisp and cheerful, with just the right hint of nautical style.

Together, the top and pants create an outfit that’s relaxed but still looks smart.

I finished it with the same chunky crochet tote and silver thong sandals, which add texture and a touch of glam.

And then it hit me—I was basically wearing red, white, and blue! It has such a beachy feel, but it would also be a really cute outfit for a Fourth of July barbecue or fireworks by the water,r too.
