Leather Pants Styled 3 Ways
Hi Glam Gals. I’m very excited to be collaborating with two fab bloggers, Jo-Lynne from Jo-Lynne Shane and Cyndi from Grace + Beauty.
I get a lot of questions about leather pants and how to wear them after a certain age without looking too tough or too teenager-ish, so today, we’re bringing you three different ways to style leather pants. Take a look at my outfit, and then pop over to Jo-Lynne and Cyndi’s blogs to pick up some more great ideas.
If you are new to my blog, Welcome! I’m Deborah, and I’m here to help you Tweak Your Chic and Look Fabulous After 40, 50, and more!
Leather pants are rich and luxurious, but these days faux leather looks pretty darn good too. These are my Trouvé faux leather leggings that I bought at the beginning of the season. They’re super light, stretchy, and at $79, not that expensive compared to the real thing.
I’ve paired them with this beautiful cold shoulder turtleneck in a beautiful Grey Heather color for this shoot. I think this sweater is a cool idea. They’ve taken a very traditional cable knit sweater and given it a sexy twist by creating peek-a-boo cut-outs at the shoulders.
This sweater has tiny bits of silver running through, giving it a subtle sparkle and making it perfect for holiday time. It glistens, and in white (the other color it comes in), it reminds me of glistening snow. Very pretty!
Let’s talk a little bit more about my leggings. Technically, they’re black, but not a straight, cold black. I’d say they were more like a very dark bark color, and since they are faux leather, they have a slight texture that makes them look rich. I love how they look worn with these rich, burgundy over the knee suede boots from Stuart Weitzman.
Since my leggings are stretchy, they’re also super comfy, but you need to be prepared to work them in a little. I bought size small, and I felt like I was being sewn into them as I wiggled them up to my legs. But, after half an hour of moving around in them, they stretched out. That’s just the way it is with leather or faux leather. They’re going to give.
Wearing leather pants, faux or real, will add some edginess to your look. This is good because edgy translates into youthful. Where you can fall off the track is when you go too rough and edgy all over.
For example, black leather pants with a black top and all-black leather accessories with a lot of hardware can look harsh on a mature gal. Try a little softness/femininity combined with black leather pants to shift you into a more elegant model.
You could do this look with Ponte leggings, but the faux leather kicks it up a notch. A pretty sweater or silk blouse looks expensive and sophisticated with leather pants and balances out that biker edge.

Very classy. Excellent combination of edgy and elegant
Thanks, Janice, That was what I was aiming for. Cheers, Deborah
I love leather leggings; I live in them these days…this sweater is a fabulous find. The perfect update to a regular tunic sweater – and the texture is gorgeous! Now those boots, I love them, and how you styled them up here! What a great holiday outfit!

Hi Suzanne,
I bought those Stuart Weitzman boots last year, and they were a little pricey, but you know when you love, love, love something? Well, that was the case with these. I’m so glad I went for them. I always feel so happy when I put them on. The color is a delicious merlot shade, and I always get compliments. Thanks for dropping by! Cheers, Deborah
You look fabulous in your faux leather leggings! I love your cold shoulder sweater & red boots with them. I’ve wanted to get a cold shoulder sweater/top for a long time now, and yours looks perfect for the holidays!
I bought faux leather leggings last year and was surprised by how much I like them and how often I have worn them.
Hi Andrea, Thanks for the compliment. These leather leggings are nice and thin, and they are very comfy. You get tired of jeans, and these are an excellent step up. Cheers, Deborah
The post is about leather pants, but the sweater looks fantastic on you! GorgLovelyust the right touch of sexy!
Hi Jen, Yes, who would have thought a turtleneck could be sexy, but this one certainly is! Cheers, Deborah
You look STUNNING. I love how you explain adding a little softness/femininity to leather pants to create a more elegant look.
I love this look!
Thanks, Ali!
These look amazing! Love your boots!!

Super cute…I still am not used to sweaters with open shoulders, but the outfit looks great on you!!!
You know Edie, I wasn’t sure about a sweater with cutouts. They look nice, but I thought it might feel weird exposing my shoulders this time of year, but not at all. I felt great in this sweater!! Cheers, Deb
They look super comfy. The sweater looks great with leggings. It can sometimes be tricky to find the right length to cover the right parts; otherwise, it can be tres tacky! The cold shoulder is SO popular these days. It looks great on you.
Thanks, Susanne, This sweater gives a bit of a sexy vibe, but my arms are covered up pretty much, which is great because my arms look rather pasty white this time of year, and I don’t like sleeveless in winter as I get cold quickly. This is perfect. Cheers, Deborah
